The Ghost Sitting On Kate's Bed

We are on the ghost story trail again today with an experience from Kate which, she says, happened to her a couple of weeks ago.

"I read your post written by Celia (see The Ghostly Girl Buried Behind A Cellar Wall) and am sending you my ghost story. No one else believes me but it is true.

I'm 17 years old and my mum and dad always work late. They have their own business so I am often on my own after college. I usually do my study work before anything else.

Two weeks ago I was in my bedroom and I heard the doorknob of my bathroom move. It makes a strange noise like it needs some oil. I looked in the bathroom but nothing was there. I thought it was my imagination and got on with by studying.

Five minutes later I heard another noise and it was like someone had jumped on my bed. I turned round and again there was nothing there.

I went to turn on my light as it was starting to get dark. As I did so I looked in the mirror and there was someone sitting on my bed!!  It was a young man and he had a strange smile which was quite eerie as he looked at me. I quickly turned round to face him but there was no one there on my bed.

I was well spooked so I headed out of my bedroom and again glanced in the mirror and there was the man again still with his silly grin. I was really scared and ran down the stairs. There was a shout, like a scream, so I left the house to run to my aunt's house who lives quite near.

My heart was pounding and I was trembling. My aunt laughed when I told her why I was there and what had happened. She thought I was making it up.

It has never happened again but I will not stay in our house on my own and feel shaky when I walk into my bedroom, even when I know my parents are home.

I have told mum and dad but they also laughed it off and said I had been watching too many horror films but I know what I saw and it wasn't my imagination like everyone else says it is."

Ephemeral That Makes Up A Life And Is Easy Forgotten

Sketch or drawing of 1914 World War I

I was remembering my mother this week as her birthday was on June 23rd. I have a case of documents that my mum collected, things that were important to her. Just bits of papers, ephemeral and worthless to anyone else. But many told a story.

The drawing 'Lest We Forget' above was by a friend of hers back in 1932 and 'we' did forget. Below is a letter from The War Organisation informing my mum's sister, Ella, that her fiancé was presumed to have been killed in action in the 1939-45 war. There was no counselling back then. You received a letter and got on with your life. For Ella this meant never having another boyfriend or marriage.

Some of the scans of the documents aren't too clear because of their age but, if interested, click on any photo for larger versions.

Letter from War Office showing presumed killed in action from World War II

My mother's brother was perhaps lucky, as the letter below shows, he didn't have to go to war. He had employment necessary to the 'war effort'.

Letter of deferment of active duty for World War II

If we travel back to before the two world wars life wasn't easy. Many children died young or were still born. The next document is relevant to one of the children my grandmother lost - a 'still born male child'. Having a wonderful, healthy young grandson I find this quite heartbreaking.

Death of a still born child from 1912

But my grandmother was strong in spirit and she lived to nearly 104. On her one hundredth birthday she had a telegram from Queen Elizabeth II. I remember she was quite disappointed in what she received. I think she thought the Queen could have put a bit more effort into it!

100th birthday telegram from Queen Elizabeth II

My grandmother's husband died way before I was born and all my mum got as notification was a telegram. Back then, of course, there weren't many phones and a telegram was the quickest alternative communication.

Telegram from 1940

Amongst the literally hundreds of letters, receipts, death certificates and so on I noticed the following National Savings card belonging to my grandmother from the 1920s. The symbol they used at the time was the Swastika. People wouldn't have realised back then what significance the symbol would have in later years.

Looking back through all of the bits and pieces it makes me appreciate how very lucky we are today in comparison. We have much to be thankful for, despite what we see and read in the media.

Poppy's Red Collar Coincidence

Cat with red collar We met a neighbour this morning and he told us he was having some work carried out on his house by a local building maintenance man. We had noticed the van parked outside his home.

He then said words to the effect: "How's this for a coincidence?" He doesn't know I publish this blog.

Yesterday our neighbour was clearing a patch in his garden by his shed that is all long grass and, to put it politely, in a natural state.

As he cut the long grass he found a red collar belonging to a cat named Poppy. It was still in good condition and also had a phone number on a tag.

Thinking no more about it, he put the collar to one side.

This morning, when the builder arrived he noticed the phone number on the side of the van and thought it seemed familiar. He had used a mobile number to contact him previously.

It then dawned on him that the number on the cat's collar he had found was the same as the one on the van.

He showed the collar to the builder who was quite amazed. The collar belonged to his cat, Poppy, and had gone missing about five years ago! It must have come loose because it had a quick release catch so that Poppy could never strangle herself if she became trapped by the collar.

How strange that the collar was found one day previous to the builder arriving - after being there for five years.

Facebook Romantic Coincidence

Couple met on Facebook

The likes of Facebook and other social networking websites have changed the way we meet others, even for romance. Take Kelly Hildebrandt for example.

Kelly (female) said, "I was like, I wonder if there's any other Kelly Hildebrandt on Facebook, so, I searched my own name."

Kelly did find another Kelly Hildebrandt and it was a 'he'. She explained, "He was the only one that came up. And actually, in the picture, he didn't have his shirt on, and I'm like, 'Oh, he's cute!'"

The 'he' Kelly was from Texas and the 'she' from Florida and now the two will, sort of, become one. Eight months after their meeting Kelly proposed to Kelly.

Their opinion of the whole coincidence relationship is that, "It was love at Facebook sight." Okay, a bit cringe-worthy, but their romance started with the coincidence of their names being the same on Facebook.

Kelly, the initial seeker, sent the first message, "Hey, I see we have the same name, and I thought it was kinda cool, so I wanted to say hi."

And from this their status eventually changed.

Reincarnation Gave Couple A Second Chance

Reincarnation Old Fashioned Couple

I'm not sure how the following story should be categorised. Is it precognition, synchronicity, coincidence, dreams, reincarnation? But, whatever, thank you to Stanley J for letting me publish this on 67 Not Out.

"As I get older I sometimes think about reincarnation and what this means to me. I have been a believer since a young man, I am now 75.

When a young man I occasionally had very vivid dreams, so real that they seemed like visions. I dreamed the following when I was 22 years old and remember it as if it was yesterday.

At the time I was a bachelor and had several young women friends all of whom were attractive and intelligent. I had no thought of marriage and enjoyed their company, often taking them on dates to restaurants and dancing. It was at this time that I had my dream.

In the dream I was leaving my flat (apartment), dressed in a suit and carrying a small suitcase. As I closed the door behind me I saw a young woman coming down the stairs from an upper floor. She was dressed in a white, lace nightgown. She looked very upset as if she had been sobbing.

She looked at me and said, "Please don't leave me. It was all my fault, please don't go."

I felt, however, that whatever had happened was really my fault. I had started an argument as an excuse for leaving her. She was my wife but I knew I had to get away and be alone. She came to me and threw her arms around my neck and I felt her tears on my cheek. It was then I realised who this 'wife' was.

I woke up from my sleep with a jolt and knew she was one of the young women I had been dating. Then everything became clear.

I had broken up with Margaret in a previous life and now had an opportunity to put everything right.

I contacted the young woman as soon as I could and started courting her properly in a respectful manner. I quickly fell in love with her and was privileged to find out that she also loved me.

We married six months later. We were both 23 and lived happily together for 51 years.

Sadly Margaret died a few months ago but we had a wonderful life with three children and five grandchildren.

I know I had been with her also in a previous life and had mistreated her. Fortunately I was given the opportunity in this life to complete the full purpose of our relationship as soul mates.

I know she will be waiting for me."

With Stanley's approval I edited the story slightly - Mike.

Aliens May Cause Death Disease And Displacement

Alien a friend or foe

It's interesting that a man such as Stephen Hawking believes in aliens. He is quoted as saying: "To my mathematical brain, the numbers alone make thinking about aliens perfectly rational. The real challenge is to work out what aliens might actually be like."

I don't think you can argue with this, but Hawking has also warned about any such contact with these aliens.

He said on his Into the Universe With Stephen Hawking television programme, "If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the native Americans."

The inference being that Native Americans experienced disease, death and displacement as European then American invaders fought them, seized their land and forced them onto reservations, sometimes after death marches.

Hawking therefore feels that, rather than try to establish contact, humans should try to avoid contact with alien life forms.

Perhaps this is also the thinking behind most governments on Earth as they try to cover up and hide any UFO sightings and stories of aliens.

There are differing views from Jill Tarter the retiring director of the SETI Institute (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) about the effect aliens may have on Earth. She is quoted as saying:

"While Sir Stephen Hawking warned that alien life might try to conquer or colonize Earth, I respectfully disagree. If aliens were able to visit Earth that would mean they would have technological capabilities sophisticated enough not to need slaves, food or other planets. If aliens were to come here it would be simply to explore.

"Extraterrestrial life with enough intelligence to travel light-years through the Milky Way already would be kinder and gentler with no need to pirate resources or use Earth as an outpost."

She went on to add, "Stephen has a brilliant mind, but he doesn't have expertise in extraterrestrial intelligence. Aliens coming here hell-bent on trashing the neighborhood and claiming all our resources - I'm skeptical of that."

But, of course, Jill Tarter doesn't have any real expertise either in extraterrestrial intelligence as she has said, regarding SETI, "Certainly, we don't see evidence of intelligent life. The case is still open.

"The SETI Institute, in operation for 28 years and now with 150 scientists, has yet to receive one signal from intelligent beings elsewhere," she said. "Nor is there solid evidence that basic life forms - bacteria or microbes, for example - exist out in the solar system or beyond."

It would, I suppose, be preferable if Jill Tarter's opinion was accurate and that any visiting aliens would not wish us harm. But we can't be sure of this.

What Vladimir Nabokov Likes About Coincidence

The Monkey Proves That We See What We Need To See

PG Tips monkey

We see what we want or need to see. Take the PG Tips Monkey for example.

Being English I do enjoy my cup of tea and one of the brands we often buy is PG Tips.

I associate this tea with their television ads involving a monkey. Not a real monkey - though in less informed times they did use live monkeys - but a knitted toy. There he is, in all his glory, in the photo above.

About a week ago our daughter-in-law gave Karin a bundle of knitted bits. It turned out they were parts of a PG Tips Monkey. It had been like this for ages as somehow she was unable to finish off making the toy, the instructions aren't very clear. So she asked Karin if she would have an attempt.

PG Tips Monkey in pieces

Karin likes a challenge but thought it would be easier if she could see an actual monkey that had been completed. But where could we find such a creature? They are not exactly roaming the valley where we live.

The next day we set off for a morning walk from our house and towards the end of our road was a van parked, delivering something or other. And sitting in the front window of the van was a PG Tips Monkey!

So lots of peering in through the window. Goodness knows what anyone would have thought if they had spotted us.

"What a coincidence seeing the monkey," said Karin as we continued on our way.

We passed a row of small terraced cottages and hanging in the window was - another Monkey just hanging limply by his arms. We thought we had better not peer in through their window!

"We are bound to see a third," I said, but no more were spotted hiding in the undergrowth or anywhere else for that matter.

That afternoon we headed to Truro City, about 15 miles from where we live. After doing what we had to do in town we walked into a charity shop to have a nose round. It was then that we spotted something looking at us. Yes, there he was, a fully formed PG knitted Monkey wearing a white T-shirt. He was quite tame so Karin was able to have a good look at his, erm, bits and pieces.

So that was our third monkey and that's what happens in life.

PG MonkeyOnce we send out strong thoughts about anything at all whatever it is will come into view. If, for example, you've ever talked to someone about a specific make of car I bet you'll see several in the next few days. It's the way of the world.

Of course the monkeys, cars or whatever may well have been there all along but get filtered out, otherwise we would overload our brains / minds with too much trivia. Once we concentrate on something the filters are switched off and whatever it is will come about. It has to, if the matrix created isn't destroyed.

We really do see what we want or need to see. This sounds simplistic but I believe it to be true. Visualise, send out a wish / request / need and forget about it. The result will follow especially if mixed with a pinch of belief - always a magical ingredient!

Now, it must be time for tea!

Are We Simply A Bunch Of Memories?

Cornish garden

Just a few meandering thoughts today.

I was walking around our garden this morning and I realised it was full of memories. There's Toby's bush, where our border collie is buried; bricks in a flower bed wall which came from Germany - they are from the house where my wife was born; there's Spikey a sharp succulent that our son gave us - and there is a story attached to this about how it was thrown in a river.

And so it goes on. There's the flower bed surrounded by Cornish stone, that was meant to become a fish pond. No matter how I tried: with polythene, barrow loads of cement I couldn't stop it leaking. So it became a slightly raised flower bed instead. And there's a story about a goldfish that goes with the reason as to why I tried to build the pond in the first place.

There's lots more besides, but I won't bore you.

Then I remembered, for some reason, a piece I once wrote about how 'memories are the food stuff of the old'. This got me thinking about memories in general: Is this all we actually are? A bunch of memories?

Even if we believe in a Soul or Spirit, call it as you will, what use is this without memories? If we don't have any stored away moments accumulated over time we, as individuals, don't exist.

If we believe in reincarnation, it's not much superior to an atheist's death if we can't remember past lives. Some will argue that we can remember, of course.

Everything about us is memories: we remember how to walk, talk, do certain things and the experiences make us what we are. There will be good memories and some sad or bad ones as well - and without these we wouldn't be as we are now.

Or maybe there is something more to us. Our intuition, for instance. Has that been learnt and so a stored memory? Or is it something completely different. But even if things like intuition are separate from memory, they are not a lot of use if we don't remember who we are.

I'm actually going to leave the post there as food for thought - at least for me.

Take care of your memories. When your body returns to dust these may be all that exists.

67 Not Out Reader's Coincidences

The web of coincidence

Coincidences today from 67 Not Out reader Diane. If you have a coincidence story you would like published on this blog please forward via the Contact Button at the top of the page - thank you.

"Some coincidences for you.

My Mum and Dad met at a Band Hall which used to be a church. When they died it was an non-denominational chapel, and we were able to hold both of their funerals there. I didn't know, however, that they had met there until Mum's funeral. An old family friend told me how he was the one who had introduced them to each other.

Mum died on Mother's Day and Dad died on Father's Day.

Alan, my husband, and I were in Prep together, but then his family moved away. We have the class photo. We were born in the same hospital, 21 days apart and we re-met 21 years later.

His Mother's birthday is on the 20th of June, my Mum's was on the 20th of June, nine years apart. Our Dads were born on the same date, 16th of December, five years apart.

My Grandfather was Alan's Scout Master and football coach."

The Ghostly Girl Buried Behind A Cellar Wall

I have to take stories I receive by email in good faith - in other words that they are true and trustworthy. On this basis I publish the following ghostly tale with a disturbing ending. See what you think!

"My name is Celia and I'm 17 years old. This scary event happened to me when I was only ten years old, but I still remember it...I am so freakin scared, thinking about what had happened seven years ago.

Anyways, I was playing dolls in my house when I heard a soft voice whisper behind my ear. I shivered, but I ignored it at first, thinking it was just a breeze coming from the window. I looked at the windows and saw that they were closed. But I forgot about it.  A while later, I heard someone whisper in my ear again. This time, I could make out the words.

"Celia, Celia, Celia." I looked around, but there was no one there. Then suddenly, I saw a little girl my age looking at me. She had a red skirt on with a white blouse. She looked pretty, if only her eyes weren't so dark and creepy. She called out, "Celia, Celia, Celia........ come in... to... the cellar." It was so scary to listen to her dry and shivering voice. But I just stood still and listened to her. She then disappeared. I opened the door and walked down the cellar stairs.

I saw the little girl again, and this time she was pointing at the ancient looking wall. She motioned with her hands as if she was tearing something down. I was confused, so I went back upstairs. I went in the kitchen to look for my mother. I found her at the table and told her about the little girl. She grew pale, deathly pale, after I described how the girl looked. She became almost frenzied and so scared I felt like I wanted to cry. But she shushed me and asked where the girl was. I told her down in the cellar and we both went down there.

I said that the red skirt girl was making tearing motions at the wall and my mother grew even more frantic. She called some builders she knew and asked them to make a hole in the wall in the cellar. They came the next day and soon broke through the wall. Inside, they found a small skeleton with a torn white blouse and red skirt. I was scared as hell at that time.

My mother started to cry, telling the builders how her little sister, Rose, disappeared wearing those same clothes and how everyone was upset, except for her uncle.

We then went to mother's uncle's house and found him home. When mother told him about the hidden body, he nearly fainted, but wouldn't say anything. Finally, he broke down and said that he had tried to molest the little girl when no one was looking, and Rose tried to run away. He was afraid that she would rat on him so tussled with her and she died. He hid her body behind the wall of the cellar."

China Blocks Tiananmen Square Internet Searches

Tiananmen Square Tank Man protests
Classic Photo of theTiananmen Square Tank Man
The Tiananmen Square protests in China were supressed on June 4 1989 and are sometimes referred to as the June Fourth Incident in Chinese.

Now here's a bit of a coincidence. On June 4 2012 the Shanghai Composite Index, which is China's biggest stock exchange, fell by 64.89 points.

It was soon noted that 64.89 could also be 6/4/89.

China it seems doesn't like their people discussing Tiananmen Square and so the censors swung into action.

The words Tiananmen Square have been blocked on Internet searches in China. And because of the 'coincidence' the censors have stepped in even more with blocks on Shanghai Composite Index and also the Chinese characters for today, yesterday and tomorrow. The word Candle is also blocked as this symbolises mourning, so the word mourn has been blocked too.

When a search was done for the word today on June 4th on Weibo (a Chinese Twitter) there were no results. Instead a message appeared stating: In accordance with the rules and regulations, 'today' search results have not been displayed.

Weibo also removed the the candle icon from its collection of frequently used emoticons - see China Digital Times.

Sometimes I get frustrated in the UK by what seems to be surveillance and the like but it's nothing compared to China. Guess there's plenty to be thankful for in the west.

UFO In Baltic With A 1000 ft Runway

Baltic UFO

When an unusual item was seen deep in the Baltic Sea, the shape excited UFO watchers. Could this possibly be a UFO sunk into the depths of the waters?

Below is an up to date Press Release from the Ocean X Team investigating the object further. There is also a report on this on the Daily Mail website. Their article describes what has been seen as a "UFO-shaped object found at the bottom of the Baltic Sea... covered in soot, with 'little fireplaces' and lying at the end of a 1,000ft runway."

There is also a video on the Swedish website Expressen.se Here's the Press release:

PRESS RELEASE

THE TREASURE HUNTERS, OCEAN X TEAM, DISCOVERED SOMETHING UNIQUE WHEN THEY DOVE DOWN TO THE MYSTERIOUS CIRCLE-SHAPED OBJECT IN THE BALTIC SEA

Treasure hunters confirm they have found something abnormal in the seabed

STOCKHOLM

The Ocean X Team dove down to the circle-shaped object in the Baltic Sea and met something they never experienced before. First they thought it was just stone or a rock cliff, but after further observations the object appeared more as a huge mushroom, rising 3-4 meters/10-13 feet from the seabed, with rounded sides and rugged edges. The object had an egg shaped hole leading into it from the top, as an opening. On top of the object they also found strange stone circle formations, almost looking like small fireplaces. The stones were covered in something resembling soot.

"During my 20-year diving career, including 6000 dives, I have never seen anything like this. Normally stones don’t burn. I can’t explain what we saw, and I went down there to answer questions, but I came up with even more questions ", says Stefan Hogeborn, one of the divers at Ocean X Team.

The path to the object itself can be described as a runway or a downhill path that is flattened at the seabed with the object at the end of it.

"First we thought this was only stone, but this is something else. And since no volcanic activity has ever been reported in the Baltic Sea the find becomes even stranger. As laymen we can only speculate how this is made by nature, but this is the strangest thing I have ever experienced as a professional diver", continues Peter Lindberg, one of the founder Ocean X Team.

Right now, scientists are examining samples from the circle-shaped object, and experts in sonar imaging are processing data from the ship to hopefully shed more light over the mysterious object.

The Over Powering Love Of Near Death Experiences

NDE Near Death Experience

I was reading a long study by Dr. Pim van Lommel on the International Association For Near Death Studies website.

I don't want to repeat the eleven pages he has written - you can read this at the link above - but I thought I'd just publish part of his conclusion about Near Death Experiences (NDE):

"There are still more questions than answers, but, based on the aforementioned theoretical aspects of the obviously experienced continuity of our consciousness, we finally should consider the possibility that death, like birth, may well be a mere passing from one state of consciousness to another."

To reach his conclusion Dr van Lommel had carried out a clinical study of 344 patients who were successfully resuscitated after suffering cardiac arrest. About 18% of them had an NDE. The patients remembered details of their conditions during their cardiac arrest despite being clinically dead - even with a flat line brain stem activity.

I believe that we live on following what we call death but can understand why there are so many sceptics. Most modern science is on their side with various theories on how NDEs happen.

But - no matter what scientists and other 'experts' state - anyone who has actually experienced a NDE will be emphatic in what they saw and felt. Take this lady, for example, who wishes to be anonymous:

"Over the years, I’ve tried to find the words, but they don’t even come close to describing what I want to say. It was just the most-beautiful experience in the world."

She told her story to the The Columbus Dispatch.

At the age of 24 she had excruciating pain caused by a blood clot in her leg.

A very bright light filled the room and she found she was looking down on herself. Her pain had disappeared and she felt very safe and secure, as if arms were wrapped around her.

She witnessed thousands of scenes from her life and could feel the emotions of people she had either helped or hurt. A 'greater force' seemed to tell her everything she ever wanted to know but, unfortunately, she is now unable to recall what this was.

She became aware that her great-grandparents were accompanying her throughout what was happening. There were also other people she didn't recognise but she knew they were loved ones.

After a while she realised that she had to return to her Earthly life, but couldn't understand why.

She returned to her body and the pain and regained consciousness.

She talks of the love she felt during her NDE: "It was one hundred times more - thousands of times more - than love for your parents or your child. Multiply that by I don’t know how many times, that’s what it was like. Nothing comes close. I love my husband; I love my kids. But nothing comes close."

Needless to say she no longer fears death.

Kathi Beasley also experienced this same love with her Near Death Experience.

She said, "I was pierced by this incredible column of light that was iridescent, and it just filled me with the most unbelievable, unconditional love that I have experienced in my entire life. Nothing comes close, nothing. There’s no experience that I’ve ever had that is so deeply spiritual or meaningful to me at that moment.

It was filling me, filling me, filling me with love, filling me so much at one point I said, 'that’s enough, please stop, I can’t take any more, this is wonderful, but just stop,' and it did, it stopped."

Kathi realised she had to return to raise her daughter but even so she adds. "It’s so incredible and so beautiful you don’t want to go back,"

NDEs have been experienced for thousands of years. The first recorded is said to be in the 4th Century BC in Plato's The Republic.

But sceptics will tell you that the drug Ketamine produces all of the elements of an NDE when it is injected into normal, non-dying people - reference: Dr. Karl L. R. Jansen. But does this disprove that there is an after life? I don't think so.

What we believe, of course, is up to us as individuals.

White Feathers After Someone Dies

White feathers after someone dies

On Wednesday I wrote about white feathers again in my post White Feathers As Contact With The Dead. As I have said previously I get more emails and the like about this subject than anything else I write about.

Below is a story I received following the mentioned post, the lady concerned wishes to remain anonymous.

"I heard about white feathers from a friend who had lost her Grandma. I thought it was nice that she believed they were a sign from the person who had passed away but I also thought, 'yeah right...'

Then I lost my Mum, I was devastated, she had been ill but we had been assured she was on the mend and I was thousands of miles away on holiday when she died. The guilt and pain were so incredibly hard to bear.

The first of my white feathers floated to the ground in front of my eyes one afternoon, not long after my mum died. It was a very still winter's afternoon and I was sitting in my garden talking to my husband about my Mum.

The second was on the floor just outside my back door.

The first white feather took my breath away, the second I looked at still in denial but starting to think maybe....

For two and a half years after this I still found the feathers every time I walked my dog regardless of the season, the weather, the time of day. I am in no doubt it was my mum saying its okay.

A few weeks ago I was packing to go on holiday. I had spent a sleepless night worrying about my eldest daughter who had gone to work abroad and seemed to be in with a bad crowd. God knows how she was surviving, and my youngest who I was leaving on her own for the first time.

I got up early to finish packing and there in the mesh inside my case was a perfect white feather. No way was it there the night before, the windows had been closed - it was inside the mesh.

It was my Mum telling me everything would be okay. I am sure of this. Suddenly I felt good again.

And funnily enough my youngest was fine while I was on holiday and my eldest is holding down a job, making her way, and earning enough money to live on - not sure what else she is up to - not sure I want to!

I find fewer white feathers now, but every so often there one is. And now I smile when I find one and say - 'Thanks Mum' x"

Native American Chief Seattle And His Powerful Speech

Native Americans Indian Sacrifice

This is something new to me but maybe it's well known in the USA. It's a speech said to be by a Native American called Chief Seattle - also known as Si'ahl, Sealth, Seathle, Seathl, or See-ahth. He lived from 1780 to 1866 and gave this speech, probably in 1854, about handing over native lands to the new white settlers.

The content of the speech is disputed, some would say it's bits and pieces from what he actually said and others that perhaps it's a mish mash created by someone called Ted Perry (no relation!). However, I don't think this really matters, though no doubt will to purists. For me the content is something very powerful.

Chief Seattle's Letter

Chief Seattle"The President in Washington sends word that he wishes to buy our land. But how can you buy or sell the sky? The land? The idea is strange to us. If we do not own the freshness of the air and the sparkle of the water, how can you buy them?

Every part of the earth is sacred to my people. Every shining pine needle, every sandy shore, every mist in the dark woods, every meadow, every humming insect. All are holy in the memory and experience of my people.

We know the sap which courses through the trees as we know the blood that courses through our veins. We are part of the earth and it is part of us. The perfumed flowers are our sisters. The bear, the deer, the great eagle, these are our brothers. The rocky crests, the dew in the meadow, the body heat of the pony, and man all belong to the same family.

The shining water that moves in the streams and rivers is not just water, but the blood of our ancestors. If we sell you our land, you must remember that it is sacred. Each glossy reflection in the clear waters of the lakes tells of events and memories in the life of my people. The water's murmur is the voice of my father's father.

The rivers are our brothers. They quench our thirst. They carry our canoes and feed our children. So you must give the rivers the kindness that you would give any brother.

If we sell you our land, remember that the air is precious to us, that the air shares its spirit with all the life that it supports. The wind that gave our grandfather his first breath also received his last sigh. The wind also gives our children the spirit of life. So if we sell our land, you must keep it apart and sacred, as a place where man can go to taste the wind that is sweetened by the meadow flowers.

Will you teach your children what we have taught our children? That the earth is our mother? What befalls the earth befalls all the sons of the earth.

This we know: the earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself. One thing we know: our God is also your God. The earth is precious to him and to harm the earth is to heap contempt on its creator.

Your destiny is a mystery to us. What will happen when the buffalo are all slaughtered? The wild horses tamed? What will happen when the secret corners of the forest are heavy with the scent of many men and the view of the ripe hills is blotted with talking wires? Where will the thicket be? Gone! Where will the eagle be? Gone! And what is to say goodbye to the swift pony and then hunt? The end of living and the beginning of survival.

When the last red man has vanished with this wilderness, and his memory is only the shadow of a cloud moving across the prairie, will these shores and forests still be here? Will there be any of the spirit of my people left?

We love this earth as a newborn loves its mother's heartbeat. So, if we sell you our land, love it as we have loved it. Care for it, as we have cared for it. Hold in your mind the memory of the land as it is when you receive it. Preserve the land for all children, and love it, as God loves us.

As we are part of the land, you too are part of the land. This earth is precious to us. It is also precious to you. One thing we know - there is only one God. No man, be he Red man or White man, can be apart. We are all brothers after all."

White Feathers As Contact With The Dead

White feathers as messages from the dead

I was Googling the words white feathers to check if any posts I have published on the subject have a decent ranking and I came across the following story on the Total Essex website.

Nicola Ford who lives in Hutton, Essex was telling of the recent strange happenings in her house. One of the things she mentioned was about how white feathers have been found dotted around her home and the smell of a perfume, that she doesn't use, often fills the air. This is something I can personally relate to. I remember how, after my dad died, I saw white feathers and could at times smell his special brand of tobacco - even though no one smokes in our house.

Many of the other things Nicola talked about were something completely different.

First her television switched on by itself in the middle of the night, a candle fell over mysteriously and a pair of glass angels in her bedroom rotated by themselves. She also sees shadows out of the corner of her eye.

I'm sure this would have given me the collywobbles but Nicola is calm about such happenings. Why? Because she believes it is her late mother, Hazel, watching over her.

Nicola told Total Essex, "I just think I've got mum letting me know she is about. The fact that mum was very spiritual and believed in spirits herself makes me think it is her. I find it comforting. It isn't malicious – it isn't as if I have things flying across the room trying to hit me. It is just things being moved."

Peculiar things, however, have happened to Nicola's son Robbie, 16, and her six-year-old white and ginger cat Fifi.

She explains, "When mum died Robbie had some quite negative experiences. He saw some quite nasty things in his bedroom like nan's face coming towards him and then turning into a scary face. As for the cat, she's always looking at or following something that we cannot see. What is happening here is paranormal."

What interests me in this story is the white feathers aspect, as they tend to appear over and over following a loved ones death. There are so many experiences about this, many I've published on this blog. Surely we can't all be deluded.

Impressions And Feelings Captured In The Walls Of Your House

In response to a post I published back in February 2010 I have received the following story, the writer wishes to remain anonymous.

In my post Houses Have Feelings Too I wrote about how "Houses and buildings somehow absorb attitudes and perhaps temperaments of the people who have lived there previously. If the last tenants were full of family love this permeates the atmosphere. The opposite is true as well. If there has been hate and ill feeling these vibrations linger and can be felt by the new owners."

This ties in with the following experience from 'anonymous' as follows:

"Four years ago, my mother and my siblings had to leave the house where we all grew up. It was a very old house and was very dear to all of us. We packed our old stuff and things for days and the house was a bit of a mess.

That last night we were there, I, two of my brothers and my mom were sitting in the living room. It was after midnight, we were having coffee and were chatting, reminiscing the old days. It was very quiet and the other parts of the house were dark. Then we heard a scream, coming from one of the bedrooms upstairs. We swore it was my sister-in law who was screaming a very loud and heart wrenching scream. Like she was in pain or something.

We all got up and ran upstairs to where my brother and his wife were staying for the night. Only to find them quietly talking in hushed voices. Talking about the old house.

Another incident happened that last night we spent in the old house. My mother was inside the bathroom and she could hear my two teenage sisters giggling and talking in very loud voices. From inside the bathroom, my mom asked them to keep their voices down, as it was very late in the night. The two teenagers seemed not to have heard and kept talking and laughing in their shrill voices. This annoyed my mother a little and she hurriedly stepped out of the bathroom to reprimand the girls. But as she stepped out of the bathroom, the room was suddenly quiet, and there was no one there. Turns out, my sisters were inside their bedrooms - already fast asleep.

We were actually discussing the house on the day that we left it. It's like, our family has left an imprint of everything that we have done, of everything that we were. But why on that last day? That night before we left? It feels like it's taunting is ... or was it grieving? Like some sort of reminder to us of everything that we had ... or everything that were in that house."

In the blog post I mentioned I finished by saying:

"It's interesting (or maybe worrying!) to consider what the walls of our own houses are taking in as they observe our moods, tone of our voices, thoughts and so on.

Shelly said, "One wandering thought pollutes the day." As well as polluting our minds perhaps these thoughts also pollute our living areas.

Wonder how people feel when they walk into our homes?"

We are the souls and spirits to help fashion and dwell in future realms

Layers of Earth's atmosphere brightly colored as the sun sets

I have mentioned previously that when my best friend Colin died his wife gave me some of his books and papers on various spiritual subjects. One I looked at yesterday is about the human aura but goes on to talk about how this effects the Earth and other planets.

The following is a quote I found interesting when I opened the booklet at a random page. It was written by R.P.Beesley:

"The Earth itself, like other planets, wears a mantle of environment; this we know as atmosphere. But atmosphere is more than a state of gases, it is a living condition that can be affected by the thought forces released by its inhabitants.

Some planets have very high spiritual atmospheres and carry very advanced civilisations. Our own needs a lot of refining, for many of the thought waves released are anything but spiritual or refining.

We draw from our atmosphere just as we breathe air and drink water, so right living and right thinking is important for it feeds back. Thus the innocent can be affected; like rain it falls on the just and unjust, so the way we live, think and do our business creates a climate of living.

In the human aura this shows as personality; in world or planet aura it indicates man's state of affairs.

The spirit is the true self, this is our eternal body. That it will grow, expand in wisdom and knowledge, become strong, resilient, courageous and deep in understanding, is the purpose of its being, thus to become builders, teachers, skilled artisans of creation.

As the Kingdoms grow other worlds are still in the making, so these are the souls and spirits to help fashion and to dwell in these future realms - brave new worlds invested in the consciousness of God. We must be humble servants, partners and workers, serving the Universal Consciousness in all things."

So, with all that is going on in the world today, I wonder what the state of the Earth's 'atmosphere' is at the present time? Are we improving or polluting with our thoughts? Just as we create the state of our own auras we also seem to have a duty to release 'right' thoughts for the betterment of everyone on Earth. We all have a role to play.

Beyoncé And Her Golden Scientists Bottom

Scaptia (Plinthina) beyonceae

Scientists are such serious fellows, aren't they? What with their use of Latin to disguise what they are on about. Why name things in a dead language? Take a horse-fly for example, like the Scaptia (Plinthina) beyonceae - that's the fellow in the picture above.

How on earth did the creature get called that? It was named by Bryan Lessard, an Australian National Insect Collection researcher and his inspiration was Beyoncé - but he had to spoil it by giving the name a Latin appearance.

This is what Lessard said about how he named the horse-fly: "It was the unique dense golden hairs on the fly’s abdomen that led me to name this fly in honor of the performer Beyoncé as well as giving me the chance to demonstrate the fun side of taxonomy – the naming of species."

So does that mean Beyoncé has golden hairs on her, erm, abdomen? Well no, funnily enough, it's because the horse-fly has a golden backside / bottom - and that gives me the excuse to include the photo below in this post!

Beyonce bottom bum

Other celebs besides Beyoncé have had creatures named after them, with Latin sounding names:

Neil Young, a spider: Myrmekiaphila neilyoungi

Mark Knopfler, a dinasaur: Masiakasaurus knopfleri

Arnold Schwarzenegger, a carabid beetle: Agra schwarzeneggeri

George W Bush, a mold beetle: Agathidium bushi

Dick Cheney, a mold beetle: Agathidium cheneyi

Donald Rumsfeld, a mold beetle: Agathidium rumsfeldi

Mick Jagger, a prehistoric trilobite: Aegrotocatellus jaggeri

Keith Richards, a prehistoric trilobite: Perirehaedulus richardsi

Kate Winslet, a ground beetle: Agra katewinsletae

Angelina Jolie, a trapdoor spider: Aptostichus angelinajolieae

Bill Gates, a flower: Eristalis gatesi

Marilyn Monroe, a trilobite: Norasaphus monroeae

Hugh Hefner, a marsh rabbit: Sylvilagus palustris hefneri

Adolf Hitler, blind beetle: Anophthalmus hitleri

Stan Laurel, cicadas: Baeturia laureli

John Cleese, a wooly lemur: Avahi cleesei

And no doubt the list goes on and on. Who said scientists are serious? Oh, I did.
