Manipulation is all around us but sometimes it can be put to good use. Take for instance urinals for men!
At Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands they were having a problem. They were always having to clean the men's toilets, restrooms, bathrooms or whatever you call them in your country. To put it delicately men in general weren't being too good with their aiming at the porcelain.
The airport came up with a solution. They placed a model of a fly in the urinal basin or bowl. This gave men something to aim at or, as they explained, 'Men often feel a compulsion to aim their urine stream at the fly, and thus the fly target helps prevent men from urinating outside the basin or bowl.'
After adding a fly to each urinal bowl the cleaning costs of the men's toilets, restrooms or whatever were greatly reduced.
The men had been manipulated!
Moving on to something more tasteful - food.
An experiment was done offering free food at a busy shopping centre. On offer were either cakes and pastries or fruit. The same number of each each were placed on tables.
It was found that twice as many cakes and pastries were taken than items of fruit.
Now comes the manipulation.
They carried out exactly the same experiment but with one difference. They placed large mirrors behind the tables. This meant people taking cakes/pastries or fruit would see themselves as they reached for their choice of freebie.
This time twice as much fruit was taken as cakes and pastries.
The shoppers has been manipulated into taking the healthier options without a word being spoken.
Perhaps such examples are basically considered for the good, but what if all hidden manipulation is not for the good. Are we making the free choices we think we are?
There are hidden persuaders everywhere.

I wasn't sure if to publish the following email or not. It's a follow-up to the post The Ghost Sitting On Kate's Bed. As you will read, the story has moved on into an area I haven't read about before, or personally even thought about. But, if the author David Conway, experienced Tickling Ghosts then why shouldn't Kate experience what she has.
"Thanks for printing my story. It's good to know that some people believe me even if my parents and friends don't.
I said in my last email that the ghost I saw hadn't reappeared but now he has. I haven't told anyone, other than writing this, as I know no one will believe me.
I was in my bedroom and I saw the ghost out of the corner of my eye. It was as if he was to one side of me in my peripheral vision. At the same time something touched my shoulder, like a gentle squeeze. That was it until I went to bed that night. I can't explain why, but this time I didn't feel scared.
I fell asleep and was dreaming deeply of some young man with a strange smile, maybe the ghost I had seen in my last email to you.
He started massaging my chest area and it felt almost electrical or vibratory. I woke up and looked around my bedroom in the dark but couldn't see or hear anything. I lay still and then the touching started again but I was definitely wide awake this time.
My heart was thumping loudly but I didn't object as I was partly enjoying the sensations. The tingling of the touch moved towards my stomach and I then suddenly came to my senses and sat up quickly saying, "Go away, go away!"
That was it. The touching stopped immediately leaving me very confused. Eventually I fell asleep again.
In the morning I thought about what had happened but I did't feel frightened any more. I came to the conclusion that the ghost wanted to have sex with me, but maybe I simply have an over active imagination. I wouldn't want that to happen any way.
It's now been two days and nights since that happened. I know this may sound silly but I'm almost disappointed that the young man ghost hasn't returned.
I will let you know if anything else happens. You have my permission to print this email on your website if you wish.
Thank you for listening to me.

A coincidence story today by Michael Thurston on the website Beyond Religion:
"One night, I got off the train and was walking to my rented accommodation late at night. It was cold, and I was feeling very despondent, worried about my future job prospects. As I walked home, I phoned my brother and told him I was fed up with believing in God, life after death, and anything related, since none of it was relevant to my life. I went to bed with these thoughts and feelings.
During the night I had a dream in which I was at a formal meeting with scientists or philosophers wearing suits in 1920's or 1930's style. There was a long conversation during which someone asked me if I believed dreams could predict the future. I said yes, but no one in the group seemed to believe me. So I had to shout, "Yes, I do! Yes, I do!"
Then someone asked me who my favourite composer was. I said "Elgar." I don't know why I said that. I like him, but I listen to him very rarely, and if someone had asked me in my waking life, I would have suggested something a little more contemporary. This time they seemed to misunderstand me, and one of them repeated, "Agar...Agar?" so again I found myself shouting in my dream, "No, Elgar! Elgar! Elgar!" This act of shouting woke me up...and I had to fall back asleep again. Having been woken by my emotional outburst, the memory of the dream was very vivid to me.
The following morning I woke up and reached over to the radio to switch off the alarm. But I knocked the radio to the floor by accident, and the fall must have hit the on-switch. The radio, which switched itself on, immediately began to play music by Elgar. I was amazed! I got dressed and ready for work, and still Elgar's music was playing.
I later checked the radio programmes for that day in a newspaper. At the time I had woken up, a special programme (lasting about 2 hours) on Radio 4, devoted solely to the music of Elgar, had just started. At that time in my life I almost never listened to the radio."

There are many descriptions as to what the spirit may be. Here is one such explanation by RP Beesley, see what you think.
"The spirit is a very splendid thing, composed in miniature of the essence of all creations, known and unknown; concealed splendour perhaps at this stage, but nevertheless its future assured.
All wisdom, knowledge and comprehendings are stored away in the holy essence. This explains the need for its various clothings, its various bodies (astral, etheric, mental etc.) to protect itself from the course material of outer space, and which are means by which it can in part project itself into denser matter.
Mind over matter is not a new phrase, but with the comprehension of spirit it makes the eventual discipline, the overcoming, the final achievement more possible.
As God consciousness expands so are new worlds formed. We are the people of these new worlds - pure spirit, pure essence of God; what a privilege!"
And our ultimate goal? These are Beesley's thoughts:
"We shall shed the soul form, so that pure mind (pure consciousness) and pure spirit are completely united in cosmic intelligence and Form Divine; this we call the place of Pure White Light - something which will take many eons to achieve - yet a heavenly goal we should all seek to attain.
I guess it will take us an extremely long time before we can be fully united with God- for want of a better word. Creation as we know it has barely started, so there's a lengthy journey ahead of us!
It might be an idea to try and enjoy the ride.

The post on 67 Not Out with the most views (one million plus) is Married Couple In The Same Photo As Children. It's about a couple who married and then discovered how the wife was pictured with her husband as children, completely by coincidence. They didn't know of each other at the time and their respective families lived hundreds of miles apart.
It seems, however, that similar coincidences happen more than we might think. To illustrate this, here are a few short coincidence experiences left by 67 Not Out readers. I have only altered any spelling errors or obvious grammatical mistakes.

Over the weekend I was sitting in the living room, feet up on a stool, eyes closed listening to a CD of Sergei Rachmaninoff (or some spell it Rachmaninov). It was evening and I was feeling fine.
Karin came into the room to join me, though didn't really want the music on.
Okay, if I'm honest, Rachmaninoff isn't top of my choices either, but I like to try and listen to different sorts of music.
"Do you want to try that new vodka, you were given?" she asked.
It's not my preferable tipple but I agreed.
Karin brought in the bottle. "The brand is Rachmaninoff," she said, "and you're listening to ..."
"Yes, a coincidence or synchronicity," I interrupted. "But did you also know Rachmaninoff died on March 28th and his First Symphony was premièred on the 28 March?"
"How do you know that?"
"Says so on the CD cover blurb. In 1897 and 1943."
You probably won't know, but Karin's birthday is on the 28th of March.
"Oh look," I said, " and the vodka is made in Germany where you were born."
"Shall I put Adele on instead?"
Strange things coincidences.
