Coincidence Of The Three Pint Beer Glasses
Last month I published a post Are Coca-Cola Drinkers The World's Worst Litter Louts? I've now come across a new form of 'litter' - pub pint glasses!
Over the past week we have found three glasses by the roadside: a Fosters, a Carlsberg and a Crabbies - as per the photo above. A coincidence or a new trend?
After we had found two we 'knew' we'd find a third. So what's happening? Are late night drinkers using their final pint as a take-away, so they can sup their drink of choice while walking home or on their way to the taxi rank?
We took the glasses home with us, put them in the dishwasher and we'll no doubt use them at some time or other. We have no idea what pub, or pubs they originated from.
I'd rather find glasses than all of those squashed Coca-Cola tins I wrote about before, but I suppose they are still a form of litter and have the potential to be dangerous if they were to get broken.
I can't see any real significance, with the coincidence of finding three glasses. Though I did read on the Science Nordic website that "three beers a day keep the doctor away." Mind you, on the Daily Mail website, I also read that "Just three pints of beer a week can dull your brain by 20%." You pay your money and take your choice!
Cheers!

Special Numbers Coincidence
I know I said I wouldn't mention my holiday in Mallorca again but I needed a quick post for today as I'm tied up all day - not literally of course.
I've often mentioned how 76 and 67 have been significant numbers in my life and keep cropping up. Here's another instance.
At the end of our holiday, early in the morning, we were waiting for a coach to take us to Palma airport for our homeward flight. I looked across the road and opposite us was the above Seat Car - we have a silver Seat car ourselves, though this isn't much of a coincidence as so do many other people. Anyway, the number, as you can see was 7767 BDV - so a 76 and a 67 on the number plate.
When I was going through my photos, after I arrived back home, I wondered if BDV meant anything. All I could find was that it is a French language abbreviation for Bourse des Voyages meaning Travel Exchange - so the number plate fitted the occasion perfectly.

Did The Old Testament Bible Copy From The Epic Of Gilgamesh?
The Epic of Gilgamesh is said to date back to the 18th Century BC and contains several parallels with the Bible. Some would say it is from this, that parts of the Old Testament was based. Let's look the story of Noah's flood for example.
In the Epic of Gligamesh mankind is returned to clay by the Gods - except for the hero Utnapishtim. He is told to build an ark, by Ea the god of wisdom, where each side measures 120 cubits, and for it to be sealed with pitch and bitumen. When built Utnapishtim, with his family and 'all the animals of the field' board the ark. The Earth is then deluged in seven days.
The ark drifts to Mount Nisir (today this is in Iraqi Kurdistan) and lodges on the mountain. Utnapishtim releases a dove, a swallow and a raven. When the raven fails to return, the ark is opened and the inhabitants are free to walk the Earth again - as for the rest of the population 'all the human beings (are) turned to clay'.
This is surely too similar to Genesis to be a coincidence.
Genesis 6:14. 'Make thee an ark of gopher wood ... and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.' And in verse 15 God gives the measurements for the ark.
Genesis 6:18. '... thou shalt come into the ark, thou and thy sons and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.'
Genesis 6:19 'And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring onto the ark, to keep them alive with thee ...'
Genesis 8:4 Following the flood. 'And the ark rested ... upon the mountains of Arafat'.
Also in the Noah story he releases a dove and a raven.
But there are also other similar flood stories.
In Hindu texts, from the 8th century BC for example. Vishnu warns the first-created Manu and his wife, Sraddha, that he intends to destroy all wicked people, animals and plants with a flood. Manu is saved by building - yes, an ark.
In Greek mythology Zeus is offended by the cannibalism of the Pelasgian people and floods the Earth to wipe out mankind but ... Deucalion is given advance warning, so he builds an ark for himself and his wife Pyrrha - and the ark comes to rest on Mount Parnassus.
The Biblical story of Noah is also in the Koran, where he is considered a prophet. This time the ark ends up at Mount Judi.
All of these have the same theme: God punishes the wicked but a virtuous man and his family are saved by building an ark which, after the flood, comes to rest on a mountain.
It's up to us what we believe, but my old family Bible gives the date of the Noah flood as 2448 BC - whereas the Epic of Gilgamesh is dated the 18th Century BC.

My Mallorcan UFO Photo
I wasn't going to post this photo until I saw Trish & Rob's post UFOs Over Jupiter? It's a photo I took while in Mallorca about 10 days ago. Unfortunately there are no houses or scenery in the picture to get a proper perspective.
We were walking along one night, looked up and saw this light moving across the black sky. I've no idea what it is - as Trish & Rob say about their photo - it could just be a Chinese Lantern or something similar. I'm not making any claims!
I enlarged the photo and this is what I got:
And then enlarged it again:
I also noticed there are green 'stars' one to the top of the photo and the other at the bottom of the photo - as can be seen in the pic below.
So there you go, my Mallorcan UFO - well it's definitely unidentified!

The Young Soul Of The Cranky Old Man
Here's something I saw on a comment from Elizabeth. I gather it has been doing the Internet rounds:
When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in an Australian country town, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value.
Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions, They found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital.
And this old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across the Internet.
Cranky Old Man
What do you see nurses? . . .. . .What do you see?
What are you thinking .. . when you're looking at me?
A cranky old man, . . . . . .not very wise,
Uncertain of habit .. . . . . . . .. with faraway eyes?
Who dribbles his food .. . ... . . and makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice . .'I do wish you'd try!'
Who seems not to notice . . .the things that you do.
And forever is losing . . . . . .. . . A sock or shoe?
Who, resisting or not . . . ... lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding . . . .The long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking?. .Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse .you're not looking at me.
I'll tell you who I am . . . . .. As I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, .. . . . as I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of Ten . .with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters .. . . .. . who love one another
A young boy of Sixteen . . . .. with wings on his feet
Dreaming that soon now . . .. . . a lover he'll meet.
A groom soon at Twenty . . . ..my heart gives a leap.
Remembering, the vows .. .. .that I promised to keep.
At Twenty-Five, now . . . . .I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide . . . And a secure happy home.
A man of Thirty . .. . . . . My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other . . .. With ties that should last.
At Forty, my young sons .. .have grown and are gone,
But my woman is beside me . . to see I don't mourn.
At Fifty, once more, .. ...Babies play 'round my knee,
Again, we know children . . . . My loved one and me.
Dark days are upon me . . . . My wife is now dead.
I look at the future ... . . . . I shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing .. . . young of their own.
And I think of the years . . . And the love that I've known.
I'm now an old man . . . . . . .. and nature is cruel.
It's jest to make old age . . . . . . . look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles .. .. . grace and vigour, depart.
There is now a stone . . . where I once had a heart.
But inside this old carcass . A young man still dwells,
And now and again . . . . . my battered heart swells
I remember the joys . . . . .. . I remember the pain.
And I'm loving and living . . . . . . . life over again.
I think of the years, all too few . . .. gone too fast.
And accept the stark fact . . . that nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people .. . . . .. . . open and see.
Not a cranky old man.
Look closer . . . . see .. .. . .. .... . ME!!
Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might brush aside without looking at the young soul within. We will all, one day, be there, too!

The 1696 Mallorcan Castle Also Used In The Spanish Civil War
Some of the places we visited on the island of Mallorca were very busy, like this scene at Cala Bona. So we headed to the very end of the seafront, where the sun umbrellas disappeared and the land is as it was before the developers came along to cash in on the tourism.
Here there was peace and we left the crowds behind, other than a lone fisherman ...
... and the wild flowers of the headland.
We had heard that on the headland there was an old castle so we followed the rocky tracks amongst the shrub-land and at last had a sighting.
And finally we made it to the Castell de Sa Punta de n'Amer.
The small castle or fortress was open to all visitors so we went to have a look round, first walking over the drawbridge ...
and then inside ...
... and also up to a higher floor via a creepy spiral stone staircase while wondering who else has climbed here since 1696 when the castle was completed.
And finally up more steps to the battlements ...
... with a view out to the Mediterranean sea.
The castle last saw any real action during the Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1939. The headland was an important base for the army and the castle itself served as a news site for the nationalists.
Not far from the castle an annexe was built which served as accommodation for the soldiers. Fortunately today this has been turned into a small cafe/bar/restaurant.
Luckily it was open so we had an ice cold beer and later a coffee while looking out on wonderful scenery - perfect. Other than, of course, we still had a long walk back to where we had come from!

The Size Of Your Telomeres Really Does Matter If You Want A Longer LIfe
It seems that living longer may at least partly be down to increasing the length of our telomeres.
There has been a study on the effect of healthy living on lengths of DNA called telomeres - tiny caps on the ends of chromosomes that protect against the ageing process.
These are likened to the tips of shoelaces which prevent fraying. Telomeres keep chromosomes stable and prevent deterioration when cells containing them divide.
Telomeres shorten as we age and this is associated with a risk of an early death and being vulnerable to things such as cancer, diabetes and dementia.
Longer telomeres are a sign of being biologically younger.
So, the theory is, if we can lengthen our telomeres we can improve our lifespan - and perhaps considerably.
All well and good but how can we do this?
It seems one of the answers is a healthy lifestyle.
There has been a study published in the Lancet Oncology. Two groups of men, with similar health issues were studied. One group of 25 continued with their same lifestyle while the other 25 had to make considerable lifestyle changes. Their diet was switched to one high in plant proteins, fruits, vegetables and refined grains while low in fat and processed carbohydrates.
They were also taught stress reduction techniques such as yoga and meditation and also took the right levels of exercise: such as walking for 30 minutes, six days a week.
After five years blood tests showed that the telomeres in this group had lengthened by an average of 10%.
Unfortunately in the group, where the men carried on with their same lifestyle, their telomeres were found to have shortened by and average of 3%.
The leader leader of the study, Professor Dean Ornish is quoted as saying, "If validated by large-scale randomised controlled trials, these comprehensive lifestyle changes may significantly reduce the risk of a wide variety of diseases and pre-mature mortality. Our genes, and our telomeres, are a predisposition, but they are not necessarily our fate."
I suppose that underneath we all know that a healthy, stress free lifestyle will help us combat diseases and may well lengthen our lives - but now we know that with our telomeres size really does matter.
I also read on Wikipedia:
"Advocates of human life extension promote the idea of lengthening the telomeres in certain cells through temporary activation of telomerase (by drugs), or possibly permanently by gene therapy. They reason that this would extend human life because it would extend the Hayflick limit. So far these ideas have not been proven in humans, but it has been demonstrated that telomere extension has successfully reversed some signs of ageing in laboratory mice and the nematode worm species Caenorhabditis elegans."

Nudity At Airport Security
A bit of a moan. I love airports and travelling but I dislike all of the over the top security - supposedly for our own good - terrorists and the like. Thank you Messrs Bush and Blair - huh!
I just knew I'd set the alarm bell ringing - even though I'd taken off my belt and put all coins and keys in the x-ray tray. Karin walked through okay then, as I expected, the bell rang as I walked through.
This meant two security officers had to swing into action. The first, a woman, instructed me to remove my shoes. The second, a man, did the frisking bit.
So I'm left standing there, no shoes, no belt, being frisked while the other travellers are all looking and probably sniggering to themselves. Needless to say I was 'clean'.
One of the things that annoyed me most was the security officers attitude - no politeness, no smiles. You daren't joke yourself. If you do there's a chance you could well miss your flight.
We are no longer free people (if we ever were, of course).
And on the return flight from Mallorca I set the alarm off again!
This time the Spanish security officer, a woman, didn't seem too bothered - she didn't even want to frisk me. I thought I'd better not insist!
No idea why I set both alarms off, it's never happened previously. Karin joked (when out of sight of the security bods) that after my operation last year the surgeon must have left something metal inside me. That cheered me up no end!
The photo I got from Australian Blogs. I guess if we all had to strip off it would make going through airport security a bit more interesting.

The Power Of Synchronicity In Mallorca
Hotel where we stayed in Mallorca |
For example, we thought of visiting a town a distance away from where we were based. We were discussing this while walking along the promenade by the sea. I said something like, "Shall we go or not?" to Karin. At that very moment we passed a small restaurant and the first thing I heard was, "Don't."
They were actually playing the very old Elvis Presley song Don't. As regular readers may know I'm quite a fan of early Elvis music.
I took Elvis' advice and we didn't go, which was just as well. Later there was an almighty storm: thunder, lightening and torrential rain. Quite unusual for Mallorca at this time of year - but the next day it was back to sunshine.
So it's worth adhering to the signs!
The rain and storm we missed thanks to Elvis and Don't |
We sat on the balcony while she did whatever it was she had to do. As she finished she was about to say adiós, when out of the blue she asked if I'd like another pillow!
As these sort of things were popping up I tried to make something similar happen. We went off on an open topped, double decker bus along the coast. I thought how nice it would be, on the way back, to sit at the very front. That way there would be good views and perhaps some photo opportunities.
On the return journey there were a lot of people at the bus stop and Karin said, "I don't think we'll get a front seat." As we went upstairs it appeared she was right. Both of the double front seats were taken. One of them by a man sitting by himself. So we sat down in a mid positioned seat. Then, before the bus started it's journey, the man got up and for some reason transferred himself to another seat. I waited a moment or two, no one else moved, so we were able to have the very seat we wanted!
I won't bore you with lots more examples but there are definitely times, when the mood and circumstances are right, we can accomplish many things - with the help of the universe!
Okay, one more strange thing - sorry! On the outward flight to Mallorca we handed our luggage over and made our way to passports and the other checks. Karin then remembered she had a small pair of scissors in her cabin luggage - a complete no-no nowadays so she had to dispose of the scissors before we got to the x-ray and scanner thingies. She was a bit upset as they originally belonged to her mother and had sentimental value.
"Hope Oma doesn't mind," Karin said. (Karin was born in Germany and always called her mother Oma. It really means grandmother).
When we arrived in Mallorca we stopped at a café for coffee. With the coffee they gave us some biscuits.
Karin said, "You won't believe this, but they taste exactly the same as Oma used to make when I was little." A message, coincidence, synchronicity? Whatever, but it does make you wonder about life.
In The History and Power of Mind Richard Ingalese writes:
"If you can demonstrate a piece of carpet three feet long you can demonstrate a million dollars. If you can cure a headache you can cure in the course of time any disease; if you can demonstrate a seat in the street car you can demonstrate a seat in congress, in time. If you can be happy a week you can be happy for a lifetime, because what you have done in a small degree can, with persistency, be done in a large degree."

67 Not Out Readers White Feather & Alien Stories
Just catching up with my emails and blog comments following my holiday. Here are three mixed stories I received: two on white feathers and the other perhaps a possible alien visitation?
A White Feather Dropped Into Her Hand
I lost my brother very recently, and very suddenly.
Yesterday I was with my sister and were talking about my brother and the sense of loss etc. It was very emotional, yet at the same time comforting to be talking about him.
I was standing in the garden talking to him and asked for a sign then watched as a white feather floated directly towards me from about 20 feet away. I raised my hand and the feather dropped into it. I think it was his way of letting me know everything is okay.

An Alien Visitation Or A Dream?
I just want to say this because this has never happened to me in my 44 years.
Last night or this morning, 14th of September 2013, around 4:30 a.m I was dreaming but it sure seemed extremely real.
I was lying on my couch, pretty tired, I had closed my eyes and it couldn't have been more than a minute or so and I felt a pressure enveloping my head, but not painful. Like a buzzing or humming was all I was hearing.
I opened my eyes and there was an alien right in front of my face and waving his hands or pushing back and forth close to my ears like he was creating this pressure and humming sound in my head.
I tried to speak but only made a grunting sound. I was paralysed, but I honestly think it was because of fear, I was scared.
I wanted to grab it but I was fearful to do that thinking that if I touched it I would get some kind of disease. I closed my eyes and when I re-opened them it was gone.
I was so scared my body was trembling inside. It took at least ten minutes to calm down and get up to have a smoke.
I have no idea what to think. I talk about aliens and things like that but never think about abduction. I don't know if my daily thoughts produced this in my head. Next time I will grab this thing. I'm sure I can override my fears.
This was this first time ever in my life I had a dream (?) that has shaken me up this badly. Somebody please tell me what you think, am I about to turn nuts?

A White Feather From His Dog
Hi! I'd heard of white feathers appearing after a loved one has died.
My dog and best friend had to be put down last week. I've been upset thinking about him today. I was in the kitchen when a white feather landed by my feet .
I hope it was a sign he's ok .
