The Old French Postcard Coincidence From 1900

1900 Paris Postcard

Strange isn't it? One 1900 Paris Postcard, showing the Tribunal de Commerce and the Palais de Justice, comes along - and then, like London buses, another follows straight away behind.

Paris France 1900 Postcard

But what is stranger still is that the second postcard was sent on the 10th of April 1900 to a Henry Arondel and by 'coincidence' the French painter Henry Arondel just happened to die on the very same date.

And I found an up to date photo of the identical scene as the postcards taken from the very same spot. The only difference appears to be that there were many more people on the bridge back in 1900.

Coincidence Of 50 Year Old Postcard

Old postcards

Here's a coincidence story about a picture postcard found a long way from home.

"Looking through some old postcards at an antique show in Winter Haven, one of them had a picture of Illinois College, which is located in Jacksonville, Illinois.

Since my younger sister had graduated from this college, I asked the price. The salesperson told me the price was listed in pencil on the back. When I turned it over, I notice the postmark dated either, 1932 or 1942, The printing had obscured the date. The sales lady finally said that it was postmarked March 9, 1942, in Winchester, Ill.

I began to get excited. The postcard with a picture of the college where my sister graduated, was also postmarked in the year of her birth. Some coincidence, huh? Well there's more.

Both my two parents, my two brothers and myself and other relatives were born in Winchester. So, naturally, I glanced at the signature to see who had written the card. Of all things, it had been written by my Dad's brother, Uncle Joe. What a shock. I had lived in Illinois for about 47 years, moved to Winter Haven and found a postcard, at an antique show, that was written by my uncle many years ago."

It does appear that postcards and coincidence, or synchronicity go hand in hand. Here's a few more examples.

The Old Postcard Coincidence

Vintage postcard of Poole Harbour

A coincidence story today via Jan. Nothing too dramatic, or maybe it is, if you think about the odds of something like this happening.

"I think you may be interested in this coincidence story as it also involves a postcard, which I see you are interested in also.

Conny, a teenager from the Netherlands, spent part of last summer with our family in Poole, Dorset. She was staying as part of an exchange student visit.

One of the places she seemed to like very much was the harbour and the quay at Poole, and the activities that went on there. I remember we had a family boat trip from the quay to Brownsea Island and on another day to Wareham. She said she would like to have seen how it looked in the olden days.

When it was time for her to return home she told us how much she enjoyed her stay and hoped to visit us and the harbour again.

A few days after she had returned to Rotterdam she sent us an email thanking us for her stay. She also sent us a picture of a postcard she had picked up that day in a flea market, which was an old photo of Poole.

It seemed quite a coincidence to me ..."
