The genuine NASA photo above shows a serpent crossing the surface of Mars. The image was captured on a late afternoon in the Amazonis Planitia region of northern Mars on the 16th of February 2012.
As the view of the photo shown is about two-fifths of a mile across this means that the serpent is more than half a mile in height with girth of about thirty yards in diameter. That's some creature!
Okay, okay it's really a towering dust devil (a devil?) which is casting its shadow over the planet's surface - but that's not nearly as exciting as it being a real, live Martian serpent.

It reminds me of the serpents in Dune!
