Lanzarote: Beach Life

Lanzarote Canary Islands

Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands.

Lanzarote is the eastern most island of the Canary Islands and has a volcanic origin. It was created through fiery eruptions, some 15 million years ago. Famed for its solidified lava streams and extravagant rock formations.

Glimpses Of The South Coast Of England

Winchelsea church

A few glimpses of the south coast of England, starting off with the church at Winchelsea. By accident I also found Spike Milligan's grave here. Spike was my favourite comedian, writer, poet, actor when young. Below is Rye Castle, sometimes known as Ypres Tower,

Rye Castle or Ypres Tower

And next to the castle is the local pub!

No trip along the south coast is complete without a walk along one of the piers.

Brighton Pier

And another castle - Arundel Castle in the small town of, yes, Arundel.

And finally for today a glimpse at the beach huts on a pebble beach.

Vintage Photos Taken From My Google Plus Page - 11

Hayes Middlesex 1955

The photo above shows part of the town where I was brought up as a child - Hayes in, what is now called, the London Borough of Hillingdon. The photos are dated 1955. Times have made changes, that's for sure. The photo below is from the same area showing red London Transport buses and a red post box.

I came across these photos by chance, they are a little hazy, but I found them interesting.

The following is from a Hayes Carnival.

By comparison next is where my wife was born in Ohrfeld, north Germany. When we visited the area about 10+ years ago we found the house had been knocked down for a main road and housing. We recovered three bricks from the site to take home - which are now in our garden.

And finally a photo of me I used for a Google+ community - several members published photos from when they were young. I think this was probably my first school photo when I was 5 - a wonky school tie and a blazer was the uniform - though the tie didn't have to necessarily be wonky!

Glimpses Of Cornwall

Truro River, Cornwall

More glimpses of Cornwall today. Above is the Truro River and on a cloudy late afternoon. And below the tide is out on a grey-day at Pentewan Beach leaving the green cladded rocks exposed.

The ponies below roam free on Bodmin Moor, Cornwall often gathering together in groups - some can get quite frisky!

And finally part of the Cornwall section of the South-West Coast Path. I took this photo from Gribbin Head. A lovely place for walkers.

Glimpses Of Cornwall

Photos I have snapped of Cornwall, where I live.

Below, the small village of St. Clement in Cornwall, situated in the valley of the Tresillian River.

St Clement, Cornwall

To show that everything isn't perfect in Cornwall, a rusty fence post. In the background is a brick built bridge which the London to Cornwall train crosses several times a day (and Cornwall to London, of course!)

An old Notice from 1894 showing various shipping charges for the Fowey River, Cornwall.

The Bodinnick ferry which travels across the Fowey River from Bodinnick to the town of Fowey and return. Carries cars and foot passengers.

The wonderful Minack Theatre at Porthcurno, Cornwall. An amazing venue to enjoy a play, with the sea and cliffs as a backdrop - in the summer, of course!

Glimpses Of Cornwall

Mevagissey

A few glimpses of Cornwall. Starting off with the village of Mevagissey above.

Church at St Just-in-Roseland, Cornwall

Next is the church in St Just-in-Roseland. It's said that Jesus may have visited the area.

Below is Newquay Fistral beach, which gets very busy in summer.

And to prove how cold it's been in Cornwall recently here are some icicles we saw when walking in Luxulyan Valley.

From about 3000 or more years ago is Trevethy Quoit - could well be older than Stonehenge.

And finally for this week Pentewan Harbour. In the mid to late 1800s it would have been full of sailing ships ready to take Cornish tin and minerals all around the world. Today it's a peaceful village, though their is a holiday caravan park nearby.
