Orbs And Wings Of The Night
I've had this photo since my holiday in Ibiza last year. It was night time and we were sitting on the balcony of our hotel. You can just make out another hotel in the picture. It was a perfectly clear night but we (that's my wife and I) kept seeing something strange on the ground opposite (mind you, we'd had a couple of glasses of red wine!). It was something white in colour and appeared to move. I got my camera and snapped a photo.
Being very dark, about midnight, I didn't expect to capture much but there were lots of orb type globes on the resulting photo.
Some will say orbs are supernatural while others laugh and say they are specks of something or other that digital cameras pick up. As for me, I'm sitting on the fence, somewhere in between: there are genuine such pics but many aren't. But I did capture some impressive orbs which I published on my post The Orbs At St Cubys Church Tregony, Cornwall.
I cropped the photo and this larger portion - as below - shows almost wings or feathers, Phoenix like. I haven't altered anything on the picture otherwise.
I'm not taking the photos too seriously but just wondered what others may think. I only noticed the orbs again as we were looking at the photos of our holiday to conjure a few memories. The photo below shows the balcony during the day at a similar angle.

The Signs While Walking The Ibiza Coast With A White Heron
While in Ibiza we walked along the coast from Santa Eulalia to es Canar. It took us nearly three hours but we did keep stopping, enjoying the views and, at times, the path had disappeared through erosion which meant detours.
We started out at Santa Eulalia harbour, near to the hotel where we were staying, and immediately saw what we took to be a heron - though I'm not sure if this correct - but, whatever, the bird seemed to follow us along our walk stopping on rocks and diving into the blue sea for fish. He or she was good company.
It was a beautiful day and everything was perfect.
There was a small, quiet beach bar / cafe where we stopped half way for a cold beer - so that slowed us down a little - not that we were in any hurry.
Next our 'heron' led us to one of the hippies on Ibiza who was balancing stones on top of each other - some of his efforts in the photo below. I guess the only bit that didn't seem quite right was that he had arrived on a jet-ski! Oh yes, he was also painting an old driftwood tree green!
We hardly saw anyone else on the coastal path other than a few nudists topping up their all over tans while tucked away on small sandy coves.
When we eventually reached es Cana we stopped at a small cafe for refreshments and watched the world go by for an hour - and then it was back on our feet for the return journey.
The 'heron' was still about, and had a black friend join him, as we approached the Santa Eulalia harbour once more where we had started.
And finally back to Santa Eulalia harbour - a shower in the hotel and dinner to end a perfect day. As for the heron type bird it felt as if we knew him and, strangely, we never saw him again on our holiday.
There are often messages in the things we see. In this case: the heron, the balancing of the stones, the nudists, the tree being painted green, the eroded footpath and so on. I have my own personal interpretation. When on holiday, away from computers and the like, the mind seems clearer and able to interpret the signs more easily.

Hippy Heaven On Ibiza Lives On
As I mentioned in yesterday's post Ibiza was 'invaded' by the hippies in the 1960s but actually this wasn't the start of the modern 'invasions'. These began in the 1950s with the Beatniks - if anyone remembers them, that is.
The island became known for it's free-thinking, liberal lifestyles and attracted artists, writers, musicians and those with a more relaxed way of life.
Following tourism being made available for the masses in the 1960s the hippies, or peluts (hairies) as the locals called them, flooded to Ibiza. The likes of Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell joined in the fun along with New Agers.
Whereas the Hippy lifestyle gradually lost it's appeal in most parts of the world it still lives on in Ibiza. Some of the original 1960s Hippies remain.
While we were on the island we went to one of the Hippy Markets at Es Cana. It's an all day event from 10am to 7pm. There's music and street performers but mainly it's the stalls that attract the crowds selling interesting styles of jewellery, clothes and New Age bits and pieces.
I snapped the photos included on this post at the Hippy Market.
And there's always the street performers who like to show off ... he's for real but somehow stays in the same uncomfortable position ... and if you put a coin in his pot he smiles.

Ibiza Old Town And A God Who Strangled Snakes
As I wrote in my post yesterday I have just returned from a holiday in Ibiza, and what an interesting place it is - especially the Ibiza old town.
The history goes back some 3000 years and the Phoenicians, Romans, Vandals, and the Moors have all played their part and added to the culture. Then there was another invasion in the 1960s by the Hippies - but more about them another day.
Ibiza Old Town, known locally as Vila d'Eivissa or simply Eivissa, is a town within a town surrounded by walls and battlements originally to protect the inhabitants from the threat of pirates.
Though the history goes back much, much further the walls, or fortress, was built around 1554 by King Felipe II. It's on a hill so there are magnificent views over the harbour, sea and surrounding area. The walls were so strongly built that they are one of the only fortifications with the complete original structure still in place within Europe.
It is believed that the first Ibiza Town was created by the Carthaginians around 654 BC, which would make this one of the earliest towns in Europe.
The first known name for the island was Ibosim and came about because the Phoenicians worshipped a god called Bes. Ibosim translates as the island of Bes.
Bes seems an interesting enough god as he protected men from evil spirits and had the power to strangle snakes with his bare hands. He was also interested in music and dancing. His influence lives on as there are no poisonous snakes on the island and Ibiza is full of music and dancing. So he must be for real!
At the very top of Ibiza Old Town, or Dalt Vila, is the 14th century cathedral of Santa Maria d'Eivissa.
Inside the cathedral it's pretty much standard, as can be seen from the two photos below.
To reach the cathedral there are underground tunnels or walkways ...
... with some with strange rooms off of them ...
The houses within the Ibiza Old Town walls, and on cobbled streets, are full of flowers and character ...
... and a final view looking out over the harbour and to the new town.
