Will You Be Remembered in 266 Years Time?

I had a feeling when we left home this morning that I would have some sort of coincidence. I did. Nothing very dramatic but it amused me.

For quite a while I have been trying to find a 'hidden' 1700s stone tablet that is somewhere in the boundary wall of St. Austell Church. 

Today, by chance, I found the stone and the first coincidence was that the name on the memorial is Mary Harris. We have a friend by the same name - though she's not from the 1700s! She is the wife of my best friend who died a while back.

Though quite hard to read the stone states:

Here lyeth 

the body of 

Mary Harris 

who died the 7th June 1734 

aged one and twenty

The second coincidence, meaningful to me, is that Mary Harris died on the 7th of the 6th i.e. 76 

As regular readers of this blog may know there are many, many significant 76s in my life - for example I met my wife on the 7th of June. Also lots of 67s in my life, thus the title of the blog.

I wonder why she warranted such a prominent position on the church wall? There are no other such stones. All I know is that she supposedly died of drowning.

I managed to find her baptism in local records which show she was baptised on the 13th of September 1713. Her father was Nicholas Harris - but her mother's name is left blank on the records.

I suppose the question is, how many of us will be remembered in 266 years time?

Charged Up 'My Battery' & Two Coincidences Popped Up

I thought it strange I hadn't had any coincidences for quite a while and then three came together. Nothing very extraordinary but nevertheless showed I was nearly tuned in again.

As regular readers may know the numbers 67 and 76 often occur in my life, sometimes with the addition of the number 9 - as with my Father's Birth Certificate for example.

I checked this blog's stats twice - quite at random times. As can be seen below - they both featured 679 and 769!

My wife and I were talking and she mentioned how we hadn't seen any creatures in our garden for a long time, other than birds. You've guessed it, the very next day we had three visitors.

First was a toad!

Secondly a squirrel, who seemed determined to get into our front porch and kept jumping up against the window. 

Thirdly a large slow worm was curled up near our fence - unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me. It seems that 'things' often do come in threes.

A White Feather And A Piano Re-Paint Faded Memories In Tenerife

I have been away in Tenerife, Canary Islands for the past two weeks. As usual, with my trips, I had fourteen days free from computers, phones, television and newspapers - so a lot to catch up on.

A few hours after arriving in Tenerife we walked to a small nearby headland. Being a volcanic island the rocks are black - as is most of the sand on the beaches. As I was walking I came across a large pure white feather, which contrasted with the dark rocks. I hadn't seen any seagulls or other birds about, so wondered if the feather was some sort of sign. I've written lots about white feathers on this blog.

On returning from the headland the first parked car I saw had the numbers 679 on the registration plate. Again I've mentioned the numbers 76 and 67 - sometimes with a 9 - in various posts. My dad's birth certificate, for example is numbered 976. "Mmmm," I thought none too seriously, "Another sign perhaps."

Later that evening, after our meal in the hotel, we walked into their Piano Bar. It was like a blast from the past, a lone man playing away on a piano. But what hit me was the music he was playing. They were songs from the forties and fifties, and were songs I remembered my dad singing and playing.

Faded memories were re-painted in brighter colours.

I remembered being knee high to a grasshopper, as my dad would have described me, at cousin Iris's wedding. She must have been nearly 20 years older than me and my other cousin Alan. It was a London old style wedding. At the reception Aunt Florrie, Iris's mum, said, "Give us a song, Arthur." And up got my dad to perform. He loved to sing and play the piano - especially when everyone joined in.

As I focused back on the grand piano being played in the hotel I thought how dad would have loved to play a grand piano. He was self taught but could knock out a tune when asked. He played by ear (and, yes, sometimes with his fingers as well!)

I often ponder what might have been if he had been dealt a different hand in life. But it worked out fine for me as I'm grateful that he was my dad instead.

Going back to the numbers 67 and 76, the day before I went away to Tenerife I had a couple of utility bills to pay, which I did on line. As you will see from the screen shots below the first was for £67.67 and the other was for £76.07. How weird is that? Actually, I didn't see it as being weird but as a sign that we'd have a good holiday - which we did.

It's official (well sort of) that 7 is our favourite number.

A survey was carried out this week by the mathematician Alex Bellos. The poll was of 30,000 people and they confirmed that 7 is overwhelmingly our favourite number.

It's a little strange, but we do seem to have favourite numbers. Bellos said of this:

"When I give talks about maths and ask the audience if they have a favourite number, half stick up their hands. I suppose we are all a little bit obsessive compulsive. It's comforting to have a favourite number."

Special Numbers Coincidence

I know I said I wouldn't mention my holiday in Mallorca again but I needed a quick post for today as I'm tied up all day - not literally of course.

I've often mentioned how 76 and 67 have been significant numbers in my life and keep cropping up. Here's another instance.

At the end of our holiday, early in the morning, we were waiting for a coach to take us to Palma airport for our homeward flight. I looked across the road and opposite us was the above Seat Car - we have a silver Seat car ourselves, though this isn't much of a coincidence as so do many other people. Anyway, the number, as you can see was 7767 BDV - so a 76 and a 67 on the number plate.

When I was going through my photos, after I arrived back home, I wondered if BDV meant anything. All I could find was that it is a French language abbreviation for Bourse des Voyages meaning Travel Exchange - so the number plate fitted the occasion perfectly.
