Fact of Fiction : Astral Travel Via Hypnotherapy

In the 1970s a guy called Terry Thomas did several experiments regarding, what he claimed, was astral travel. Terry operated from a 'clinic' in Wales and practised hypnotherapy.

His view was that hypnotherapy differed from hypnosis. Under hypnosis, he argued, the subject is under the complete control of the hypnotist and does only what he commands. Whereas, under hypnotherapy, the subject's subconscious (unconscious) is controlled more by their conscious mind.

Whatever the case isn't really too important. What I want to write about is the fact that Terry Thomas recorded lots of people while under hypnotherapy. The following is one such case.

The subject was a man called John who didn't believe in God, astral travel or any other such 'nonsense'.

John, however, agreed to let Terry use hypnotherapy on him as an experiment. After a ten minute session Terry asked him what he had experienced.

He replied, "Nothing really, only stupid imagination. I heard you telling me to take my Astral body out of my physical body and go and visit my brother. I felt myself leaving my body, then I saw my brother, who was with my mother and my other brother. It was only imagination."

Terry got John to phone his brother, who lived 40 miles away, and to ask him what he had been doing for the last ten or fifteen minutes. John was staggered to find out it was exactly as he had seen and heard while under hypnotherapy.

Because of this John agreed to another session but this time, to make sure Terry wasn't cheating, he chose a friend who wasn't known to the hypnotherapist.

Again, to John's bewilderment, what he saw and heard under hypnotherapy checked out. He had seen his friend in a building which he himself had never visited, yet he described it all perfectly.

There were several more sessions and then Terry 'sent' John to see his dead father, who had died many years earlier.

The whole 'visit' lasted under two minutes. Afterwards he was asked what he had seen.

John, who was accompanied by his mother at the session, replied with tears in his eyes, "Mam, you have no need to worry, Dad is very happy and has no marks on his face, he looks beautiful, no marks whatsoever, not even lines or wrinkles, he looks much younger than when he died."

It seems that John's father had marks on his face through coal mine injuries.

Astral Travel

John continued, "I went and knelt before him, my father put his hand on my shoulder and then seemed to go into me and I became part of him. I am surprised beyond words that I was only there for minutes, as I felt that I was there for what I can only describe as a thousand years, a long, long time. I saw many wonders, things I could never imagine, I was told so much, but I knew I would remember nothing of these wonders on my return. The only thing I remember is my father fetching me and putting me back in my body."

I don't want to make this post too long but in further hypnotherapy sessions John recorded previous lives and even the moment of death in one of them. He is on tape as saying, "I'm laying here bad, aren't I? My heart has stopped beating, I feel myself going cold, my heart is going hard. I am dead! ... I am looking down hearing and watching my family grieve over me, but I feel no grief, I am happy."

John is also said to have made 'visits' to Mars and the Moon via hypnotherapy.

As I often say, it's up to the individual as to what he or she makes of this post. Rubbish or an element of truth?

Imagine though, if we could fully believe that we aren't bound by distance or time and that life is eternal. Would we, perhaps, alter our way of life?

Is Dreaming Sometimes Astral Travelling?

Grand Canyon
Grand Canyon - a photo I took a few years back
I've always been interested in dreams; what they are, their meanings and so on. At times though it makes me wonder if some dreams are actually astral travelling, in one of its many forms. Here's an example from J.B Priestley's Man and Time:

"My dream. I found myself sitting in the front row of a balcony or gallery in some colossal vague theatre that I never took in properly.

On what I assumed to be the stage, equally vast and without any definite proscenium arch, was a brilliant coloured and fantastic spectacle, quite motionless, quite unlike anything I had ever seen before. It was an unusually impressive dream, which haunted me for weeks afterwards."

Some 6 or 7 years later.

"I paid my first visit to the Grand Canyon, arriving early in the morning when there was a thick mist and nothing to be seen. I sat for some time close to the railing on the South Rim, in front of the hotel there, waiting for the mist to thin out and lift. Suddenly it did, and then, I saw, as if I were sitting in the front row of a balcony, that brilliantly coloured and fantastic spectacle, quite motionless, that I had seen in my dream theatre. My recognition of it was immediate and complete. My dream of years before had shown me a preview of my first sight of the Grand Canyon."

Did Priestly, therefore, visit the Grand Canyon for the first time in his dreams, or through astral travelling? If it was either option was he seeing into the future? And if it was astral travelling does this signify that we can travel into the future and, if we can do this, why not 'sideways' as well into other dimensions.

So many questions and so much we don't fully understand - well at least I don't.

Enjoy The Spirit Ride To The Pure White Light

Pure white light

There are many descriptions as to what the spirit may be. Here is one such explanation by RP Beesley, see what you think.

"The spirit is a very splendid thing, composed in miniature of the essence of all creations, known and unknown; concealed splendour perhaps at this stage, but nevertheless its future assured.

All wisdom, knowledge and comprehendings are stored away in the holy essence.  This explains the need for its various clothings, its various bodies (astral, etheric, mental etc.) to protect itself from the course material of outer space, and which are means by which it can in part project itself into denser matter.

Mind over matter is not a new phrase, but with the comprehension of spirit it makes the eventual discipline, the overcoming, the final achievement more possible.

As God consciousness expands so are new worlds formed.  We are the people of these new worlds - pure spirit, pure essence of God; what a privilege!"

And our ultimate goal? These are Beesley's thoughts:

"We shall shed the soul form, so that pure mind (pure consciousness) and pure spirit are completely united in cosmic intelligence and Form Divine; this we call the place of Pure White Light - something which will take many eons to achieve - yet a heavenly goal we should all seek to attain.

I guess it will take us an extremely long time before we can be fully united with God- for want of a better word. Creation as we know it has barely started, so there's a lengthy journey ahead of us!

It might be an idea to try and enjoy the ride.

Tortured Man Experienced Astral Projection And Travel

soul leaving bodyHaving read recently on the subject of Astral Projection I noticed how many of the experiences come about in crisis situations, such as while in intense pain, when seriously ill, while under a medical operation, following an accident and so on.

Not all, of course, are experienced under such conditions but I thought today I'd give a reasonably well known case which was. In this instance the astral projection came about while being tortured.

The person concerned is Ed Morrell who was tortured in an Arizona State Penitentiary. He describes some of his experiences in the book The 25th Man which shows him as the author. In fact it was his wife who actually wrote the book as he was illiterate. Jack London also made him the hero of his novel The Star Rover.

While in the penitentiary Morrell was often subjected to various forms of torture. It was under this torture that he experienced astral projection for the first time.

It appears that refractory prisoners were tied into two strait jackets which were then soaked with water. As these dried they shrank in size, so much so that the prisoners felt they were being crushed to death.

The first time this happened to Morrell he felt as if he was smothering and lights danced in front of his eyes. Suddenly he felt himself to be walking around outside of the prison as if he was a free person. He had managed to leave his pain wracked body.

He was a difficult prisoner and was often tortured in this way. When this happened the guards were amazed as to Morrell's reaction to the subsequent pain - he appeared to fall asleep. Though some say he had learned self hypnosis.

It was during this 'sleep' that he was able to 'walk' freely and explore the streets of San Francisco. In other words he became free of his physical body to travel wherever he wished.

Morrell was able to verify his astral projections by telling others of what he had seen including a shipwreck in San Francisco Bay.

His travels, while under torture, where even verified by the then Governor of Arizona, George W.P. Hunt. He was able to agree that happenings which Morrell had seen and described were absolutely true.

It's strange though that once Morrell was no longer subjected to torture he lost the ability to leave his body. It's as if astral projection in such cases is an escape mechanism when the body can't take any more.

The circumstances are similar to Near Death Experiences (NDE) such as the case of Iris Lemov which I wrote about in my post Near Death Experience Changes A Woman's Life. The difference being that with Astral projection there is free movement to travel wherever we wish. With NDEs it is usually where someone experiences what happens after, or just prior to, death.

I guess the importance of Astral Projection and NDEs is that it shows quite clearly that we are not simply physical beings. The body is just a temporary home.

How The Virgin Mary Had A Child But Remained A Virgin

Virgin MaryThere is that old cliché about 'how God moves in mysterious ways'. This post is perhaps an illustration of this and how the Universe answers our questions in these mysterious ways.

The story is about a gentleman, Terry, who runs a hypnotherapy and meditation centre in the UK. He was in a discussion with a group of Roman Catholics and asked them about the Virgin Mary and how she could have possibly been a virgin. Their answer was along the lines that it was a miracle from God.

Terry couldn’t accept the answer so he asked the Universe about this in one of his meditation sessions. He did receive an answer - and in a mysterious way.

The following is how he found, what to him, was the answer to how Mary was a Virgin and had a child. It may not be want many Christians would want to hear but it’s always up to individuals as to what they believe - and we should respect everyone's beliefs.

Several days after meditating the Virgin question he met up with a friend who often visits his centre. The gentleman, I’ll call him Dave, was uneasy about an unusual experience his wife had undergone the previous afternoon.

His wife had decided to have an afternoon sleep on her bed. She swears, Dave claims, that she was wide awake when she actually felt herself leave her body, 'her inner self leaving her physical body.'

She stayed in the room for a few moments, feeling no fear other than bewilderment, as she looked down on what appeared to be her lifeless body lying on the bed. She then floated through the ceiling and up into space, which she thought of as travelling through time.

Dave continued, "Then she met my brother!"

At this stage he looked to be very embarrassed, and said that his wife is also very embarrassed about what had happened next: his wife and his brother made love. Afterwards she returned from the astral world to her bedroom and felt herself also return to her body. She is emphatic that she had not been to sleep and dreamt the whole experience.

Terry says this was the answer to his question about the Virgin Mary and was the Universe’s way of explaining how the virgin birth came about. In his words:

"The Virgin Mary left her physical body, went to the Astral Planes (Heaven) and conceived a child, possibly with no memory of doing so on her return, or thought it was a dream, or preferred to tell no one about it."

Terry adds, "Of course technically she was thus not a virgin, but in this man’s world of ours she most certainly was."

As a footnote to this story, Dave asked his brother about what had happened and he says he has no knowledge of the incident. He joked that he regretted that he had not had the same experience.

As a further footnote Terry concludes by saying, "Strange, coincidental things happen when you work alongside the supernatural."

Think of this story what you will - I guess you could put all sorts of different interpretations on it!
