He May Have Dreamt A Real Life Tragedy

An interesting dream story. Did the dreamer latch on to a real happening as he slept?

I live in California and we recently had a tragic occurrence of a family gong over a cliff and into the rocks and ocean in their van. It looks as though this might have been done intentionally by the driver and the entire family perished.

The same night it happened I had a dream that I was sitting in the passenger side of a vehicle and that we drove off a cliff. I remember the feeling of being air borne and thinking, "Well this is it, it can't be undone now." I also remember thinking, almost immediately, "No, no, this is a mistake." and frantically hoping that we would end up hitting the water right side up and that we would somehow float and be OK.

Then I knew that was not going to happen and it was not going to be OK.

That was the end of the dream. I was so shocked and saddened to read the next day about what had happened.

Is Enjoying Life Only A Delusion?

Zhuangzi

Here's a little something attributed to Zhuangzi of the 4th Century BC. He's the guy who dreamt he was a butterfly but when he awoke he didn't know if he was Zhuangzi who had dreamt he was a butterfly, or was a butterfly dreaming he was Zhuangzi. Life is full of quandaries!

"How do I know that enjoying life is not a delusion?

"How do I know that in hating death we are not like people who got lost in early childhood and do not know the way home?

"Lady Li was the child of a border guard in Ai. When first captured by the state of Jin, she wept so much her clothes were soaked. But after she entered the palace, shared the king's bed, and dined on the finest meats, she regretted her tears.

"How do I know that the dead do not regret their previous longing for life?

"One who dreams of drinking wine may in the morning weep; one who dreams weeping may in the morning go out to hunt. During our dreams we do not know we are dreaming. We may even dream of interpreting a dream. Only on waking do we know it was a dream.

"Only after the great awakening will we realise that this is the great dream. And yet fools think they are awake, presuming to know that they are rulers or herdsmen. How dense!

"You and Confucius are both dreaming, and I who say you are a dream am also a dream.

"Such is my tale. It will probably be called preposterous, but after ten thousand generations there may be a great sage who will be able to explain it, a trivial interval equivalent to the passage from morning to night."

One thing I would query with Zhuangzi is when he writes: "During our dreams we do not know we are dreaming." I have had dreams where I have thought that there was no need to worry as I was only dreaming whatever appeared to be happening. These are usually called Lucid dreams. Aristotle wrote: "...often when one is asleep, there is something in consciousness which declares that what then presents itself is but a dream."

She Sees Her German Shepherd In Her Dreams

Alsation dog

If, as some believe, we continue following death then why not our animals as well. Here's such a story  ... or is it simply a recurring dream?

My long departed German Shepherd comes to me in my dreams and he is sometimes accompanied by my Samoyed dog, who died some years later.

I run through fields with them and I fuss them, feeling their fur and smelling their musty warm smell.

These dreams usually occur when I am worried or feeling down and I always wake with a smile on my face.

That dog was such a good friend to me, and when he died I was heartbroken. I'm sure I will see him and my other pets again one day.

Destined To Link Up One Final Time

Destiny

In this story the lady, who wishes to remain anonymous for obvious reasons, is of the opinion that we are perhaps destined to meet certain people at specific times during our lifetime. In this case this happened for a final time because of her dreams.

Many years ago, after a painful divorce, I had a long affair with a married man (sorry!)

It ended amicably, he went on to have a good life and I remarried.

I was on holiday in France 20 years later when I dreamed about this man for two consecutive nights, which I thought strange.

I found his telephone number and rang his wife, claiming my husband was a friend of his, and she said that he was in hospital.

I telephoned the hospital and the nurse gave him the telephone.

He immediately recognised my voice, and we had a long chat about our lives. We kept in touch for a couple of weeks, then contact stopped.

I found out that he had suddenly died.

It seemed I was destined to make contact with him again before he died.

The Nightmare And The Number 2

Nightmares, night terrors

A while back I had been reading about people who have, what I would call, nightmares. These are ones which feature a dark or black cloaked figure, usually thought of as being male.

I read of dozens of similar cases where this figure is often in the corner of the room or sometimes floats above the person having the 'nightmare'. Most describe the figure as being evil. One woman wrote, "It reeks pure evil and I just know it’s there to hurt or kill me. I have never felt such fear in all my life."

Another woman told of how, "I find myself sitting straight up screaming. Should my husband try to grab my arm or wake me up, it just makes it worse. I have kicked, scratched and hit him. He's a 250 pound man and I only weigh 120 but I have kicked him clear off the bed and onto the floor thinking he was someone trying to attack me."

blue number 2What made me write about this is, because of something I read about the number 2 in association with such an experience, an example being:

"Also for some reason the number 2 seems to play a prominent role, with some dreams starting with me fixated over the impression that I am surrounding with a great number of people before that number becomes divided down into two, as in me and the presence."

I have only ever had one nightmare in myself. It was as a child of 4 or 5 but is still imprinted on my mind. I dreamt that I was being chased by the number 2! I remember my mother afterwards telling me how I was standing up in my bed pointing to the corner of the room where I was insistent that a number 2 was coming to get me. To this day, I can still remember how terrified I was of that number 2.

Fortunately, though, I have nothing against the number 2 nowadays!

It's fascinating though, how many people have dreams / nightmares / night terrors about evil dark figures and how sometimes a number 2 is involved.

A Dream Saved Their Lives From A Volcanic Eruption

Mt Pelée
Mt Pelee
Early in 1902, an American tourist in St.Pierre, on the island of Martinique in the West Indies had a terrifying dream.

Mt Pelee eruption 1902
Mrs C.M Craig of New York City has a dream in which she saw her husband and brother, who were on vacation with her, standing in a rain of fire which seemed to be coming from a black cloud over Mt. Pelee.

In the dream, she saw the men killed by some half-crazed natives seeking shelter from the fire.

When she awoke, Mrs Craig told her husband and brother about the dream. They laughed. But she insisted the dream had spoiled her vacation and suggested they leave St Pierre at once.

They finally gave in. The Craigs left for New York in mid-April. It was during the early morning of May 8th that Mt Pelee erupted, killing about 40,000 persons and turning St Pierre into a lifeless city.

There was only one temporary survivor - although he eventually died of burns. He was Auguste Ciparis, a drunk and thief, who was the sole occupant of the jail's underground solitary cell.

The Dream That Raised Over £56 Million For Breast Cancer Charity

Walk the Walk cancer charity

Nina Barough woke up one morning following a vivid dream. In this dream she had seen 'lots of women walking fast in a marathon, all wearing bras on top of their T-shirts, to raise finds for breast cancer research.'

This was back in 1996 when Nina, a British fashion stylist, was 42. The strange thing about the dream was that she had never entered a marathon or done any sort of fund raising, plus she didn't know anyone with breast cancer.

The dream however was to lead to over £56 million (about $90 million) being raised for breast cancer and was also precognitive.

After her dream Nina took to following it through and, together with 13 other women, entered the New York marathon purely for fun. They called their effort 'Walk the Walk' and in doing so they managed to raise £25,000 (about $40,000) for Breakthrough Cancer.

Walk the Walk may well have been a one off but in 1997 Nina herself was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer.

Her friends and colleagues wanted to do something to help so another marathon was entered and another £25,000 was raised for charity.

Walk the Walk snowballed from there on, they became a proper charity and managed to get Prince Charles as a patron. Information on future walks can be seen on their website.

80% of all of the money they have raised has gone to Penny Brohn Cancer Care. This was personal to Nina as their integrated health programme was a big part in helping her to manage and conquer her own cancer.

During her own treatment she used power walking, diet, vitamins, positive thinking and visualisation. Nina said, "I became fitter, had more energy and felt more vibrant and balanced than ever before." To tie in with this Nina has written her own book called Walking for Fitness.

In this case Nina Barough's dream of women wearing bras raising money for charity came to reality - along with her own battle against breast cancer.

Following a dream can lead to some remarkable happenings.

An Alien Visitation Or Just A Dream?

Alien implant in thumb

I'm not sure what to make of the following alien or UFO encounter story sent to me by email. I'll let you decide for yourself.

"I read your recent post about an alien and UFO encounter and wondered if you would be interested in my story, but please do not publish my name or email address.

I live in the Wiltshire (England) area, which seems to be a place for UFO sightings. I remember the first encounter I had when I was a teenager. A small creature with big eyes was in my bedroom. I remember being touched by it and then falling asleep. I woke up hours later with an aching thumb.

A few days after this dream I noticed a black mark under the skin on my thumb. This isn't very clear now, some thirty years later, but it can still be seen. It's in the crease of the thumb on my right hand and is black in colour.

Since that experience I have had another four similar dreams or encounters, the last being in July 2010. On this occasion there appeared to be several small creatures in my bedroom and I felt that I was unable to move. My wife was in the bed next to me but she didn't wake up even though I called out her name.

It then felt as if I was floating and the next thing I realised was that I was lying on a cold bench or table with my hand in some sort of vice like contraption. It didn't hurt but tingled.

The next thing I remember was my wife nudging me saying she wanted a cup of tea. I struggled out of bed and felt very drowsy and my right hand was very shaky.

In the local paper there was a report of UFO sightings in the area that week but the verdict seemed to be that they were only Chinese lanterns.

All of this does seem far fetched. My wife laughs it off as too much cheese or beer before going to bed. Maybe it is my imagination but the experiences feel very different from normal dreams."

The Dream Of An Air Crash Came True

Precognition in dreams

Precognition within dreams, isn't always good news - especially if any message is ignored. Here is such a story to which there are three parts.

Firstly there is the dream which David Redman-Thomas had back in the late 1960's. He awoke one day screaming with fear. When his wife, Merle, asked him what was wrong he laughed it off and said that he had imagined himself plunging from the sky.

Merle also had a dream, the second part of this story.

She described the dream about her trainee amateur pilot husband. "In the dream I watched my husband take off and fly around the airfield. Suddenly the plane plummeted to the ground. I recognised the control tower and other buildings very clearly. It was Wycombe Air Park. It was all so realistic that I woke up in tears. My husband told me not to be so silly and to go back to sleep."

The following Easter Monday David drove his wife and children to Wycombe Air Park where he was due to have his very first solo flight that morning. Everything was arranged and David kissed his wife and headed towards his aircraft.

He was stopped on the way by his friend, another David - David Poore - who invited him for a ride first in his aircraft.

Merle continues with the story. "That was when my dream started to come true. I saw them take off and start circling the airfield. Then the engine began to miss badly. As I watched it fell from the sky and out of sight behind some trees. It all happened within five minutes of take off."

The two Davids died in the accident.

The third part of this story happens the day after the crash. It was broad daylight and Merle saw an image of her husband's face.

Merle explains, "At two o'clock the next day, following the accident, I was at home talking to my mother when suddenly I saw David staring at me from the opposite wall. His face was completely unmarked, but I noticed his hair was standing up at the front as if somebody had cut a lock from it."

"I hadn't wanted to see his body, but the next day my father-in-law handed me a lock of hair as a keepsake. He told me David's face was unmarked and that he had cut the hair from exactly the same spot as in my vision."

Think of it as you will.

He Foresaw His Brother's Plane Crash In A Dream

Vickers Wellington plane

The British entertainer Bruce Forsyth, now 87, has been telling of his experience of how he foresaw his brother's fatal plane crash in World War II.

Bruce, then 15, had a slight accident. He fell over, felt dizzy, disorientated and nauseous. In his words:

"... Suddenly I'm on a plane, flying over the sea. Not flying, I'm plummeting downwards out of control, at an acute angle. There is nothing I can do. I stagger towards the open door of the aircraft as the dark water rushes towards me. I jump ... a strange and unpleasant dream as I drift in and out of consciousness. What makes it particularly disturbing, however, is that I've never been on an aeroplane."

Bruce recovers and thinks no more about this until he returned home.

"Normally my mother would call out cheerfully the moment I walked through the door. Not this time. I found her sitting in her chair, gazing into space. 'What's up, Mum?' That's when she told me that my brother John - by then an RAF pilot - had been posted as missing."

It wasn't until many years later, after his parents had died, that he received an explanation as to what had happened to his brother on the night he went missing.

"They had been practising laying sea mines and one of the Wellington planes ditched in the drink. John's plane, plus another, went back to help in the search and rescue. With their lights on, flying just above the water in an attempt to spot survivors, these two Wellingtons collided. Of the 18 men from the three aircraft that crashed, only seven were picked up. John was not one of them."

It would appear therefore that Bruce's dream was a precognition. It's also possible that the dream and the plane crashing happened at the same time.

Bruce says that he still thinks of John even to this day.

She Dreamed Of Her Grandma's Death

Grandma says goodbye

Some will no doubt say the following story is a coincidence, while others will call it a spiritual connection or maybe precognition. But, whatever, it makes you think about how such things can happen.

I had a dream the night before my great-grandmother passed away. I hadn't seen her in about a year as she lived in another state and I hadn't talked to her in about a week. I found out later this was because she was in a coma.

In the dream I had been in my room when the phone rang, I answered it and I heard my grandma. the conversation went like this.

"Hey Grandma"
"Hello Bree"
"How are you doing? I miss you a lot"
"I haven't been feeling too well, I miss you too"
"Well at least I'm coming out next month then I can see you and mom and the rest of the family"
"They will be so happy to see you. I wont be there though I am leaving this week. I love you. I have to go now"
"I love you too. Maybe you'll be back from your trip by the time I get out there."

That is where the conversation ended and I hung up the phone. The next morning my dad came in my room and told me my grandmother had passed away earlier in the morning. This happened in December of 2005. I was 11.

He Dreamt His Friend Had Been Hanged

Precognition or Telepathy

A story today about - well, I'm not sure. Precognition perhaps or telepathy or prophecy ... well I'll leave that for you to decide.

A writer dreamed that a well known London stage manager, a close friend, came to him with his neck bandaged and an expression of extreme agony on his face. He pointed to his bandaged neck and tried to speak, but failed.

Then the writer woke up, and strongly impressed by the vividness of his dream, related it in the morning to his brother saying, "It gave me the impression that S**** had been hanged."

During the morning he went to his friend's house, and was told that he had been in bed for two days. It appeared that while at a rehearsal he had strained his neck, and had been in great pain ever since. This was striking enough but there was more to come ...

Afterwards he said to S****'s wife: "You know I hurried round because I had a dream that S**** has been hanged."

"That's most extraordinary," was her reply, "because the doctor said he very nearly dislocated his neck in exactly the same manner that occurs when people are hanged."

Mysterious Dream Of The Sea Came True

Mysterious tales of the sea

Mysterious tales of the sea have been told over the years. The Rev R.B Elrington told, one such story, where dreams sadly came true.

"A woman parishioner of mine, whose husband was a fisherman, at that time on the sea, dreamt one night in a terribly vivid fashion that his little craft had been cut in two by the towering steel bows of a great liner.

Her eldest son was with the husband, and as she woke she screamed out, 'Oh, save my boy, my boy!'

This was remarkable enough, considering the sequel, but almost at the very moment the poor woman was in her distress, yet still asleep, another son was pounding on her door, half asleep and half awake and crying, 'Oh, mother, where is father?' The terrified woman now rose and let the boy in.

He was crying. He told her he had distinctly heard his father's heavy tread coming up the stairs and his ponderous kick with sea boots against the door, as had been his manner when returning abruptly from a long cruise.

Next morning the alarmed mother and wife told all the neighbours, and before the day was out the dreadful news came that every detail of her dream was true.

The little trawling lugger had been run into by a coasting liner, nearly cut in two and sunk with all hands, including her husband and son."

Saved From Smallpox By A Precognition

1918 NYC street traders
NYC Street Traders 1918
I'm stepping back in time with this woman's strange story. It's a mixture of themes: a dream, coincidence, a warning, precognition and probably other categories as well.

In a dream one night it seemed that I awoke and found myself lying on a mattress placed on the floor of a room entirely devoid of furniture. In my dream I felt considerable surprise at finding myself in such situation, and I looked about in dismay and alarm. Upon trying to move I found to my horror that I was weak and sick, and I fell back on the pillow exhausted and depressed.

Just then the door of the room opened and a man entered. He was extraordinarily tall and was very dark and thin. Instinctively I felt that he was my doctor. I asked him where I was and what was wrong. Slowly and solemnly he answered, "You have smallpox."

At this juncture I awoke horrified and agitated. All day my dream stood out with frightful vividness in my mind. At length in the hope of relieving myself of its unpleasantness I related it to several of my friends. Without exception they earnestly advised me to be vaccinated at once, and I did so.

A few days later I was in New York city. As I walked along I saw many fruit vendors with quantities of fine looking white grapes. The fruit was so tempting that I stopped before one of the carts and asked the young fellow in charge of it to weigh two pounds for me. As he was waiting on me I saw him cast a furtive glance behind him, then despite my request that he give me the grapes at once, he seized the handle of his cart and with most of his fellow merchants trundled rapidly away.

I looked in the opposite direction and saw a man, evidently a city official who was ordering the remaining fruit vendors to move on. He was coming in my direction and as I was somewhat incensed at the summary departure of the vendor before he could sell me the grapes I wanted, I decided to wait and give the cause of the trouble a piece of my mind.

On looking up to address him I was startled to find myself face to face with the living counterpart of the physician who in my dream had informed me that I had smallpox. Recovering my self possession as best I could, I said, "Will you kindly tell me why these fruit men are so persecuted? Instead of idling their time away in saloons or on park benches they try to to earn a living by selling fruit. I think it is entirely commendable. Why are they not allowed to conduct their business in peace?"

"All this sounds very well," replied the man, "but there is another side to this question. These people are poor and as a matter of economy live very closely, several families sometimes occupying a single room. Not long ago in one of the habitations I saw on a bed of one of their women suffering with a contagious disease. Under the bed was a stock of fruit which one of the men took out on to the street the following day to sell. At present we are obliged to watch these people carefully in order to prevent a general spread of this disease, but," - and he squarely looked at me - "if you do not mind having smallpox I see no reason why you should be prevented from patronising the fruit vendors all you please."

For several minutes we stood there, and neither of us said a word. Then the dark man walked off in one direction and I in another. When I had gone a short distance something prompted me to look around. I did so and was startled to see the man of my dreams looking thoughtfully at me. "He has had a dream of me and recognises me as I did him."

Whether or not such was the case I have never learned but I do know that so far I have escaped smallpox. Was my dream a warning, I wonder, or was it merely a dream, and was my meeting the tall, dark, thin man nothing more than a coincidence." Source: The Carroll Herald - Apr 27, 1916

Is Dreaming Sometimes Astral Travelling?

Grand Canyon
Grand Canyon - a photo I took a few years back
I've always been interested in dreams; what they are, their meanings and so on. At times though it makes me wonder if some dreams are actually astral travelling, in one of its many forms. Here's an example from J.B Priestley's Man and Time:

"My dream. I found myself sitting in the front row of a balcony or gallery in some colossal vague theatre that I never took in properly.

On what I assumed to be the stage, equally vast and without any definite proscenium arch, was a brilliant coloured and fantastic spectacle, quite motionless, quite unlike anything I had ever seen before. It was an unusually impressive dream, which haunted me for weeks afterwards."

Some 6 or 7 years later.

"I paid my first visit to the Grand Canyon, arriving early in the morning when there was a thick mist and nothing to be seen. I sat for some time close to the railing on the South Rim, in front of the hotel there, waiting for the mist to thin out and lift. Suddenly it did, and then, I saw, as if I were sitting in the front row of a balcony, that brilliantly coloured and fantastic spectacle, quite motionless, that I had seen in my dream theatre. My recognition of it was immediate and complete. My dream of years before had shown me a preview of my first sight of the Grand Canyon."

Did Priestly, therefore, visit the Grand Canyon for the first time in his dreams, or through astral travelling? If it was either option was he seeing into the future? And if it was astral travelling does this signify that we can travel into the future and, if we can do this, why not 'sideways' as well into other dimensions.

So many questions and so much we don't fully understand - well at least I don't.

Her Dead Mother Guides Her And She Knows She Will See Her Again

Heaven dream

An interesting experience from Jenny which may indicate that those who have died can contact us through dreams. Some may write this off as purely a vivid dream but to Jenny, as you will read, it was much, much more.

"My mother Joan and I were incredibly close. When she died in January 1998, after a series of strokes that had led to vascular dementia and pneumonia, I struggled to cope.

At the first anniversary of her death loomed, I was comforted by the idea that I had a skiing holiday booked with friends. Yet on the anniversary itself, despite the warmth and companionship of those friends, the loss of mum struck me acutely.

The following morning, before waking, I had what I can only describe as a very vibrant dream. Over time I've come to realise it was much more than that.

I became aware of a great light and voice - unspoken but sensed somehow - that told me I was going to see my mother, and that afterwards I must go forward and live my life and allow her to move forward also.

I was led through a door into a room with an amazingly bright and uplifting light - so bright it was blinding - but I knew my Mum was there because I felt the most unbelievable, unconditional love of a kind greater than anything else I've felt on Earth, before or since.

It was all-consuming, and when I woke up it was with a sense of renewed peace. My mother, I felt, had given me freedom to move on.

From that day I was able to look forward and start to plan for the future - aided by a sense that Mum was with me.

Unlike a dream, which evaporates over time, the experience has stayed with me, growing stronger. I feel that, in her own way, Mum guides me and I will see her again, and that brings me enormous comfort."

The Two Warning Or Precognitive Dreams

Warning when asleep

I've had a couple of dreams recently that turned out to be ... well, I suppose you'd call them warnings. As if someone was saying, "You'd better pay attention to this."

The first was on the night before we went on a holiday to Tenerife. We went to bed at the normal time, knowing that our flight wasn't until 3pm. So we had plenty of time, even though it takes virtually 3 hours to get to the airport at Bristol,

During the night, at about 2 o'clock, I woke. It was as if someone was saying I'd got the flight time wrong, "What me?" I thought, "Surely not, I'm so careful with this sort of thing."

But the feeling was strong enough to get me out of bed and look at the flight paperwork.

Yes, I had got it wrong. The flight was at 1pm not 3pm.

My rummaging about woke Karin, she said, "What on earth are you doing?" I told her the news and how we had to alter our plans.

Thanks to the dream warning we arrived in plenty of time for our flight.

The second dream was the night before last. Thinking about it perhaps it's more precognitive than a warning.

Again I woke up during the night. This time someone was saying there was a problem with my blog. "You won't be able to log into it," said ... I don't actually know if someone/thing said it or if it was just in my head. But either way it unsettled me.

First thing in the morning I had an email from Google stating:

"Your account is currently in a suspended state, meaning that you can not use the service. Log in to admin.google.com and follow the instructions to fix the suspension issues."

Suspended!!! What on earth for!!!

I was none too happy, especially when I clicked on the link (I knew it wasn't spam by the way) and couldn't get into Google admin. "What the ****!"

The email also stated:

"We believe that your account is a business account, which includes corporations, affiliates, sole traders, self-employed merchants or professionals, and partnerships."

I do earn a few pounds from Google ads on this blog, but hardly a fortune. It just helps to cover my Internet and phone connections.

Anyway, I still couldn't get into Google admin so I did a Google search. It appears that other bloggers, going back to 2012 have had this problem. To cut it short, I eventually found a (complicated) way to access the pages I needed.

That's it! Two dreams where I received messages. I must try and keep a Dream Diary, perhaps I'm missing a lot of other stuff! Who knows.

P.S. The image at the top of this post is for illustrative purposes only. I do not wear a nightcap in bed, neither do I snore or sleep with my mouth open ...

Deceased Grandfather Sent A Message That Grandmother Would Would Die Soon

OLd couple walking on beach

Here's a story from Ruby FitzGerald of an experience that she says 'had a very profound effect' on her. Some will say it's all about a dream, but it's more than that. People who have experienced such things are in no doubt that these are not simply remembered dreams, they are a completely different category.

"When I was 20 I was living at home with my mum, Elizabeth. My grandmother, who'd been staying with us since by grandfather had passed away seven years previously, had recently moved to a care home.

One night I dreamed of my grandmother and grandfather. I was standing on a beach in Worthing, West Sussex, where we used to live, and there, emerging from the right of my view was my grandfather, wearing the kind of green V-necked tank top and smart shirt he always wore.

I was so pleased to see him - although he looked quite serious - and then my grandmother emerged from the right and linked arms with him. I said to her: "Grandma look! It's Grandpa! How incredible is this?"

My grandfather looked at me and said that in the morning I must tell my mother that Grandma was going to die soon, and that she must prepare herself for it.

Then they both turned away, arm-in-arm, and walked several paces up the pebble beach together.

I started to follow them so that I could talk some more to my grandfather, but he turned around and told me to stop and go back and tell my mother what he'd asked me to do,

When I woke up, although I didn't want to upset Mum, I new I had to deliver the message. I told her I'd seen Grandpa and that he'd told me Grandma was going to die soon and that Mum needed to be ready.

Of course, Mum didn't make much of it. She thought it was just a dream - but I knew I'd experienced something different.

Three weeks later we got a phone call saying Grandma had passed away from complications that no one had known about.

I was upset but felt comforted by my conviction that Grandpa had warned me. I've always been quite spiritual, but now I don't even question that when I die it won't be the end of my journey."

Quotes Of Fairies And Dreaming Of Loved Ones

A couple of short quotes from people who have been in the news this week.

First from the British broadcaster Joan Bakewell, 81, who says she is 'haunted by death'. When asked what she dreamed about she answered:

"The dead. By the time you get to my age you have lost so many friends and family that they come to you in your sleep, which is really quite nice.

My father might turn up and we'll go for a walk, or just have a chat. He was always an inspirational figure, who encouraged me so much.

I'm glad to say my mother doesn't crop up. We had some unresolved issues, so she wouldn't be welcome."

And secondly from the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson talking about what makes her happy:

"I do believe in fairies. I do believe in magic and when you blow on a dandelion, you will see the light of the enchanted spreading their wings and disappearing off on their own journeys, just like you have today when you opened your eyes.

Don’t let the day go by without looking for fairies and magic.

That makes me happy, as every day is, therefore, a day of exploration and adventure."

Seeing Deceased Loved Ones In Your Dreams

In one of his novels, One for My Baby, Tony Parson's writes, "Sometimes I think that the dead live in dreams. Heaven, the afterlife, the next world, whatever you want to call it - it's all in our Dreams."

I must say that partly I agree with what he says.  There have been occasions when I have seen loved ones, who have been very close to me, in my dreams. Nothing on a regular basis, but they appeared real enough for me to remember them years later.

The character in Tony Parson's book, Alfie, says after dreaming of his wife, Rose, who was killed in an accident, "And I still don't know what to make of those dreams - were they just the product of loss and imagination and grief? Or was it really her? They didn't feel like something that I had made up.  They felt far more real than most of the waking days of my life."

In a way that's how I felt too. I can't say why, or how but the loved ones I have seen in my dreams I believe were in fact them - still alive, but in another dimension.  Maybe they have access to our world for a short while after they have passed on and are able to leave us messages in our dreams and perhaps in other ways too, as I have written about previously.

From my experience we are more likely to have contact with the dead in dreams just after they have died. Or maybe when we are about to move on ourselves from this life.

Later in the book 'Alfie' mentions this as his Nan (grandmother) is dying: "My Nan has started to see the dead in her dreams. What is a little bit scary is that sometimes she is awake when she has these dreams.  She doesn't need to sleep to see her remembered dead.  They come to her anyway."

Tony Parsons isn't an author I would usually read but someone, who was moving, gave my wife a load of books - about thirty or forty - and I picked out one to read by 'chance' - as I felt like reading something easy and relaxing for a change.

It's strange how things work out, as the book unexpectedly helped me to realise that I had formulated an opinion about how the dead do really contact us in our dreams. I could well have picked out another book to read - the Universe does move in mysterious ways!
