The Shadow Men Stalking Our World

I first wrote about The Shadow People Who Stalk Our World back in 2013. At the time it got a very big response. I've also brought the subject up a couple of other times since then. Today we have someone's personal experiences of seeing Shadow Men. He wishes to remain anonymous, but here is his story.

"I used to see shadow people The first one I saw was when I was 14 years old back in 1999, before anyone started talking about them. I stopped seeing them in 2005 when I was almost 20.

The first sighting was when I was walking home from school. I lived in a small town of about 900 people and on the way to my house there was a wood bridge I had to cross. The shadow man was leaning against the right rail, slightly hunched over. He stood about 12 feet tall and was wearing a large top hat, that probably added another 2ft to the form.

I was on Main Street which meant this thing was about 70 yards away. It scared me so badly I walked about a mile out of my way to cross the car bridge. When I came past the wood bridge, on the other side, I didn't look toward it, but just ran home.

Also, the shadow men are not see-through, as some have stated, They are pure blackness.

I should also mention that at the time I was starting to fall into a deep depression and eventually attempted suicide, about a year later.

The second time I saw one it was in my bedroom at night. I could see it even though my room was pretty dark. They are darker than black, if that makes any sense.

It was on the wall past the foot of my bed and. when I noticed it, it moved along the ceiling and laid next to me in my bed. I wasn't that scared, oddly enough. I stuck my hand out and actually touched it. It was easily 10 degrees colder than my room, probably even more. I eventually went to sleep with it there.

The third time I saw one, and the last time, I was almost 20 years old and working at a foster home for a mentally challenged elderly woman.

It was at night and I was in bed trying to sleep. The house was in a larger city, so some outside lights were lighting up my room a bit. When I opened my eyes and looked at the ceiling above me, there was a black circle about the size of a basketball. It grew in size rapidly, maybe about human sized but maintained its round shape, then it dropped at me. It happened rather fast and I closed my eyes and flinched so hard I kind of jumped laying down.

Anyway, those were my personal experiences I've shared with only a few people. I believe they tend to show up to people who are deeply depressed or with emotional problems.

I have a cousin who was in the hospital after she tried killing herself after she had a stillborn. This happened about 3 years ago. She was telling me she was visited by the devil. I'm an atheist so I didn't believe that. I asked her to describe this 'devil' and she said it was a black figure in the shape of a man that stood next to her in her hospital bed."

The Black Stick Men Who Stalk Our World At Night

I've heard of Shadow People and the likes of the Mothman but a Stick Man or a Black Stick Man might be stretching things a touch too far. But, there again, it's often said that anything is possible.

Here's a story / experience that JC sent, thinking it might appeal to me. This supposedly happened to a friend of his. Here we go:

"It was very late at night and me and the girlfriend, Liz, were walking home from a club in the Greater London area. There's a park with lots of trees that is usually closed at night but was open for some reason, so we walked through the gate as it would be a short cut to home.

It was very dark but there was a proper path to follow with trees and bushes either side. We hadn't been through the gate for more than a minute when Liz said, "Did you see that?"

I had seen something that appeared to move ahead of us. The moon was out so I thought it was trees blowing in the wind and making reflections.

"It looks like someone is coming towards us," said Liz holding my arm more tightly.

Whatever it was kept on coming. I could see it, a tall thin man but very skinny. It got taller as it got nearer to us and I started feeling a little scared.

"What the hell is it?" Liz whispered.

I can only describe it as being like a stick man that kids draw. It was black, completely black and was wearing no clothes. It's face was blank except what appeared to be an opening something like a round mouth.

Liz was freaked out but the stick man bounced by us like some sort of cartoon character. It's head turned slightly towards us but it kept on walking, its long, thin legs and arms waving about as it passed.

We started to run. I turned round and the creature had gone but we hurried out of the far gate and kept walking fast until we got home.

We were both scared and locked the door of our flat. I don't know what it was but we weren't on drugs or anything."

A stick man! Has to be something to take with a pinch of salt surely.

I did a Google search and there's quite a bit about the Black Stick Man. On the Listverse website, for example, they have a post Top 10 Bizarre Modern Paranormal Phenomena and at number 3 is - yes, the Black Stick Man!

They describe this 'Paranormal Phenomena' as being:

" ... totally black, thin, stick figure drawings, such as teachers would make in kindergarten. They have been reported as between average height to impossibly tall. Their heads are just a black circle with no facial features being discernible. They are totally two dimensional, without any depth. Usually they’ve been sighted walking along roads at night, or at transitional times such as twilight or just before dawn."

Looking through the comments on the Listverse post there's one from Simon Howes, written two years ago. He wrote this about his experience:

"In 1982, when I was a student nurse at Warley Hospital, Brentwood in Essex, England, I encountered a 'stick person' in the grounds of the Hospital as I was walking home one night. It lopped across the roadway having been, seemingly, pressed up against a wall. It stopped when it saw me and raised it's arms in fright and quickly walked off into the undergrowth. It was very tall with very thin, extremely long arms and legs and a very small oval head. Totally black and no obvious clothing. I saw no face even though it emerged very near a street lamp and so was well illuminated. I was terrified and to this day, no-one believes me."

Then on the Above Top Secret forum there's this strange picture, which is said to have come from a "Spanish anonymous image board". Here's the photo.

So, I thought I'd have a look on YouTube to see what I could find and this is what I came up with. The scene is in Russia and a stick man like thing can be seen climbing down the apartment building. Only they now call 'him' a Slender Man.


With my pinch of salt still at the ready I did a Slender Man Google search. The first entry is Wikipedia and it does seem that Slender Man is fiction (but this doesn't mean that Black Stick Man also is). This is what they write:

"The Slender Man (also known as Slenderman) is a fictional character that originated as an Internet meme created by Something Awful forums user Victor Surge in 2009. It is depicted as resembling a thin, unnaturally tall man with a blank and usually featureless face, and wearing a black suit. The Slender Man is commonly said to stalk, abduct, or traumatize people, particularly children. The Slender Man is not tied to any particular story, but appears in many disparate works of fiction, mostly composed online."

Going back to the photo of the Black Stick Man I found on the Above Top Secret forum. I thought the following may have been significant because it had the number 67 on the entry!

This is the story:

"Yesterday at 20.30 hrs. just when I was about to leave the office I heard a very strange sharp buzz that came from the outside that made me look to the outside to see what it was about. When I looked in the direction the sound came from I saw a long and very thin shadow with a copper color that after a while of not moving it started walking towards the light.

It was in that moment that I got very scared because I could see clearly that it was not a normal person. It had no face and its body looked like a stick made of one piece. I went looking for my cell phone camera to take a picture of it and to my surprise, when I came back, that thing was higher than the wall of the building and it kept growing and stretching until it reached the second floor windows of the neighboring building. It suddenly jumped up the walls and began to climb up to the roof where I lost sight of it. I kept hearing the buzz for some more seconds until it disappeared completely. I was able to take pictures of it. I have spent the whole night thinking about it but I have no idea what could that be."

There we go. It's easy to chuckle about the likes of real Stick Men roaming the shadows at night - but how often does 'reality' follow fiction? Quite a bit.

The Scary Smoke Monster Made His Girlfriend Leave Home

This is a story / experience I received from evil betty following my post The Shadow People Who Stalk Our World. I don't know what you'll make of it - but I publish stories in good faith and trust that writers aren't pulling my cordwangle!

"I think I have actually communicated with a shadow person. I didn't know of this phenomenon until reading this [my post]. I thought my experience was too movie-like and unbelievable. The term shadow person never occurred to me because it was more of a dark cloud with cloud tentacles, sort of like the Lost monster (which really freaked me out at first).

One night I was staying at my girlfriend's house, sleeping on her water bed. We were both interested in astral projection / out of body stuff. As I lay there I began to relax and slowly go through exercises that help you have an out of body experience, when I am roughly pulled from my body and into the hallway.

I look to the end of the hallway, where the den is supposed to be. It takes me a few seconds to understand that I'm not seeing the den. I'm seeing what looks like a dark cloud with cloudy tentacles filling the entrance to the den. I thought to myself, 'Ok,' and then, 'Well what are you?'

The next thing I experience is so overwhelming its hard to describe. First there was the sense of someone standing very close and breathing on me. Then there was instant suffocating terror. I felt like I could hear talking or whispering coupled with a rush of imagery.

I'm gone. I have almost no sense of self and all I can do is hold on and take in information.

It said, not in words, that it made the darkness and was made of darkness. It showed me a decaying cat and said that it was between it and the ground. It showed me the space behind a fridge and a crawl space under a house. It showed me moments of looking into the house at night, watching myself with my girlfriend and her friends, like it had been watching us and wanted me to know.

In between these images, it kept showing me images of the bog behind the house with a dark creeping fog that kept reaching for the house my girl lived in. This made me think that the bog was it's source or where it lived.

Then it conveyed that it had more important knowledge to give to me and I basically freaked out at this point. I thought about my body and about being conscious and walking around. I felt a rush and suddenly I'm back in my body and my eyes are open. I'm laying on my back fully conscious starring at the same dark cloudy stuff undulating on the ceiling.

I elbowed my girlfriend, trying to wake her up I thought, 'Please go away, please go away, please go away!' Then I heard her say, 'What is that?'

She could see it on the ceiling. Then she freaks out and we got up and left. She basically stayed at my house until her lease was up. She would go there, and stay from time to time, and she said as long as I wasn't there she slept fine and there was nothing weird. But as soon as I set foot in there the air would become electric.

I could feel it. Every time I entered this place it felt like walking into a room full of people that are starring at you - when you thought the room was empty. This was not the only thing to happen to me at this house, just the scariest!"

So, there we go.

Another follow up story to my original post about The Shadow People Who Stalk Our World. This is Nick's experience.

"Seeing Shadow People is a real phenomenon. My older brother used to complain about these in the seventies, we all blew it off until I witnessed the same in the eighties. Since then it dropped away, until a couple of years ago when my son told me, out of the blue, that he was seeing them.

Over the last couple years we, or the dogs will catch sight of them in the house. I never had any bad feelings from these observations, though there was one bad experience while cleaning offices at night.

The shadow person made its presence known, and over time became more aggressively pronounced. My wife and son were becoming more aware and afraid. One night I worked alone and was cleaning the kitchen with my back turned and felt it walk up behind me. It or they make a noise, every hair on my body stood up.

I finished, turned and gathered my things. When I was ready to walk out I was so pi**ed I turned off the main lights and called it out.

I used God and Jesus on it and chased the noise and gibberish. This led out to a cubby-hole in the back. I told it that it had to go. I finally left pretty freaked out.

When we returned the following week we didn't sense or see it. We gave up that stop.

Whatever Shadow People are, they are real. I'm a combat infantry veteran, been in some scary positions but never had the hair literally stand up on my entire body."

Sightings Of Shadow People Who Walk Our World

I recently published a post The Shadow People Who Stalk Our World and was amazed by the response. It was read by over 10,000 people in the first day and many more since.

It seems that this is a much bigger subject than I imagined and many people have told me how they have seen these Shadow People. Here are a few of the experiences I received.

"I thought it was only me who saw these shadow people. I've been seeing them since I was a child and they are now part of my everyday life. I live with my partner but she doesn't see them, even though I do most nights.

They are difficult to describe other than they are figures of people but as shadows. They don't seem to be over tall, about three-quarters of the height of an average person.

They used to scare me but I now accept that they are there, as you would if you have a dog or cat walking about. They have never harmed me and people I have mentioned them to say it's my imagination."

"I used to see them. They were usually smaller than a human and dense black, not see through. It got so I barely noticed them as they seemed harmless with no feeling of portent.

Don't know what they are but I tend to agree that it's some kind of other dimension thing. A leak maybe. Or a colliding of universes.

I don't see them any more. I've moved, so maybe location has something to do with them. A curious thing to be sure."

"I have seen them also, often as small black 'things' that are moving across a threshold or along a counter top or up a wall. And I've seen them in more than one location.

Inter-dimensional, parallel universes? I have no idea. They are not always nice. Often I find myself experiencing more than usual PTSD [Post Traumatic Stress Disorder] from 'Nam when they are around, so I've taken to command that they leave and use various technologies to back the command up, it usually works.

Doesn't seem to matter if the house or place is new or old, however, the older are more apt to have them.

I feel like they have a connection to suppressed emotions that have been left around - like cobwebs -like what it feels like to enter an old vacated psych ward or old prison - only much less, but similar.

What ever they are, I think they're looking for release, we ought to assist when we can. I certainly wouldn't want to be in that state."

"I dated a girl twice a couple of weeks before Christmas one year. She was at my house and as I got up off the couch she did also and started to grab me for a kiss. As I looked at her, I could see past her into my kitchen. I saw a black mass at the stove, in a split second it went behind the island of cabinets and then behind her and disappeared. It made the hair on my arms and neck stand up. I never told her.

A couple weeks later got a call that she had overdosed. Couple of months later was talking to someone that said it was her addiction and evil dependency that was following her around."

"Been seeing shadows and things that 'were not there' for years. Recently there has been an uptick. I keep these sightings to myself but my wife and my mother have commented to me that they have been seeing things as well. They usually cycle and then fade, but this time its been very busy."

I wouldn't pretend to know what these Shadow People are. I quite like the theory, as suggested in a couple of the above stories, that they are some form of emotion, suppressed or otherwise, that lingers in buildings or around certain people.

This is what I've also thought many ghosts to be - and why they walk the same route, or do the same things over and over again. A strong emotion of something that happened long ago has somehow been trapped in the walls of the house or wherever.

In one case I wrote about, ghostly soldiers appeared to be walking on their knees. It was discovered later that an old Roman Road was about 15 inches below the floor's surface of where they were seen. The soldiers were still walking the Roman Road - so appeared to be walking on their knees.

In saying this, though, there are other kinds of, what we call ghosts - who are more than just stored memories.

The Shadow People Who Stalk Our World

I have to admit I don't know much about Shadow People but was reminded of them when I saw the above photo on Pinterest. Catherine G wrote about the photo: "The Parker family visited Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in the month of August 2010 and took this strange photo. They thought nothing of it until they heard the tale of Shadow People on a radio program."

But, as happens in life, I came across another photo said to be of a Shadow Person without really looking for it:

Very mysterious. So what are these Shadow People? Well, it seems nobody is really sure. The Paranormal Society write:

"Shadow People are not human entities. We don't believe they're ghosts. Don't believe they're demons either. But, on a scale, we'd say Shadow People lean more towards the negative side, especially given the bad feelings we get from the vibes they give off. It's suggested that they're presence means something bad, or that something bad will happen."

So that sounds none too pleasant. Wikipedia describes them thus:

 "A shadow person, also known as a shadow figure, shadow being or black mass, is an alleged paranormal entity. Paranormal researcher Heidi Hollis has expressed the belief that shadow people are malevolent supernatural entities."

There is a thread on the subject on the abovetopsecret forum. One gentleman, Em2013, writes:

"I have seen hundreds of shadows with my wife, best friend, and a few others. They are hard to dismiss as a mere coincidence of the darkness, hallucinations caused by paranoia or group lies. Sometimes they come alone, sometimes they come in pairs or as a group. We've seen armies in Canada of these things before and I wish I were kidding as frightening as they are."

Another photo from Pinterest this time from geisterportal. He or she writes about Shadow People, "They have no purpose and don’t seem to be harbingers of any sort" and wonders if they are, "... :from another dimension."
