Comforting Messages From Dead Loved Ones

Light beyond brilliance

Messages from the dead, can this in any way be possible? Many think so though, in fairness, many completely disagree. Here are a couple of examples, can they possibly be messages from beyond the grave?

My late grandfather was such a lovely, gentle, kind man.

When he passed on in 1991, I was devastated. For some inexplicable reason I instinctively switched on every light in the house for the first few nights afterwards.

One night, while sitting by the fire, I glanced up and there in front of me was the impression of light - the brilliance way beyond any word I can speak or write.

I immediately thought: "Grandad!" And then it was gone. Without even thinking I switched off all the 'extra' lights and felt the most amazing feeling of peace.

~ Annette Borril

My husband, Wyn, died on July 5, ten weeks short of our golden wedding anniversary. On returning home late one morning, I found a message had been left on my answer phone. The message was very short, it said: "How are you?" The voice was that of my dead husband.

The message is still saved on the answer phone, and friends and colleagues of my husband's confirmed - without me prompting - that it is his voice.

Did Actress Joan Collins Have a Communication From Her Dead Sister Jackie Collins?

The writer, Jackie Collins, died five years ago in September 2015. Her sister, the actress Joan Collins, believes she has had a communication of sorts from Jackie.

According to Joan, when she first heard of her sisters death there was a power cut in the village where she lived and the lights went out.

Joan, 84, who was on ITV's Loose Women programme, said that exactly five years later  the lights went out again in her village, and there was a complete black out.

She went on to say that, "It was really scary, and exactly five years before. I do believe there was some kind of force that was saying I'm here. I don't know".

A Beautiful Perfume LIngered After Her Sister Had Died

An experience from a reader: a beautiful perfume following the death of her sister.

"My sister and I were very close. We would finish each others sentences, pick up the phone before it rang, if either was calling the other, knew if the other was sick or something big was up and so on. All the women in my family have this bond.

My sister was in hospital with pancreatic cancer. My family and I would take turns staying with her so she wouldn't be alone.

Every time it was my time to stay with her I would find pennies under the glove station on the wall, without fail.

The day she died, my mother was to relieve me and was supposed to come up the evening before. She called ill, and I told her to stay home as we were fine and she could come the next night if she felt better.

My sister and I were sitting side by side, holding hands while talking about life, and death, and Jesus. She told me she knew she was dying (the doctors had never said this, they never had a definite diagnosis until the autopsy).

She asked if I thought she would go to heaven. I told her there is one way - through Jesus, which she understood. I told her to talk to Him with sincerity, ask forgiveness, and ask for his blessings. She bowed her head and (I assume) talked to him.

After a few minutes, she turned to me and said "I love you." I said "I love you, too." Then she died.

To this day, I feel I was supposed to be there, as my mother could not have handled the situation (being unwell etc.). I believe Jesus left a way for my sister to be sure of her salvation. If anyone else had been there, she would not have asked, and they would not have told her.

When the day of the funeral came, it was sadness all around - she was well loved and she loved everyone.

Mother was in heavy grief. I drove her home from the funeral. When we got there I opened the car door to let her out. To get to the house you had to walk up a short gravel path 2 to 3 feet wide and about 10 feet long - then up 2 stairs to the porch.

I walked her up to the house, made sure she was in okay and went to shut the car door. When I got about half way down the path I could smell the headiest, most sensational smell I had ever smelled. It was like lilacs, magnolias and camellias all at once. It was only in one spot. I could walk into it, and walk out of it. I did this several times.

I walked around the house to find the source, nothing was blooming. Looked up the street and nothing was blooming. It made me smile. I knew it was my sister. I walked back "into" it, then went to the door, calling Momma out. She came out puffy eyed from crying, weak from grief. She asked, "What's wrong?" I tell her, "...nothing is wrong, nothing is wrong, take my hand, just please come with me."

We walked down the stairs and into 'the smell' and stopped. Momma looked at me and her eyes got as round as saucers. She could smell it too, and she also knew it was her daughter. Her face lit up and she knew all was well.

We went back into the house. For days the perfume stayed in the walkway between her living room and the entry way. To get to the living room you had to walk through it.

I think that was sister's way of letting Momma know that all was well and to not grieve so hard. (She had already lost one daughter and a sister earlier in the year)."

An interesting experience. I have previously heard of perfumes lingering for a while after someone has died. Not sure of the significance of finding the pennies, perhaps someone has an idea about this.

A Message From Her Dead Grandmother

Vintage ring with six diamonds

A story from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.

"In April I lost my precious grandmother. We were extremely close.

Many years earlier, she gave me a beautiful gold ring of hers with a row of six diamonds for my 16th Birthday. She was so proud of those diamonds and told me many times, "Those are good diamonds. Take good care of those diamonds."

I foolishly wore that ring every day while playing sports, swimming, and waitressing in college. Luckily, it survived these years of abuse with nary a scratch.

My grandmother left the world unexpectedly, having a massive heart attack. At the time of her passing she was blind, angry, and estranged from her daughter (my mother).

I flew home and before I went to sleep I wept and prayed aloud for her to give me a sign that she is no longer angry and that everything was okay.

The next morning one of the diamonds was missing from the ring - a message from grandmother."

A White Feather To Cilla From Bobby

Cilla Black 1960s
Cilla Black in the 1960s
A little something I read recently about Cilla Black - a British pop star from the Beatles era.

When Cilla's husband, Bobby, died she was, needless to say, traumatised. She would spend hours sitting under a willow tree in her garden, in Denham, talking to Bobby, and praying for a sign from him. One day, a white feather floated through the air and landed at her feet.

This convinced Cilla that Bobby was in touch with her and she is quoted as telling her sons, "I know he is waiting for me. When the time comes, we will be together again."

I seem to be getting many white feather stories recently. Not perhaps ones suitable for publishing on the blog but nevertheless interesting as a whole. If you search for white feathers at the top of the page you will find dozens of such stories on this blog.

Cilla had also seen a ghost in her house - a pallid faced girl, in a long white dress with a ruffled collar. Cilla and Bobby had seen her in their bedroom and other visitors had glimpsed the girl in other parts of the house.

Research was done and it was found that 14 year old Lilian Redley, the daughter of the gardener, was recorded as having died in the house in 1912. A clairvoyant claimed that Lilian had died in childbirth and was 'earth bound' as she was looking for her baby,

Cilla Black died last year.

Life After Death - No. 2

Woman on death bed

Following on from my post on April 28th, Life After Death, here is another similar story.

In 2005 I was caring for my mother in her final days. She was terminally ill with cancer. My mother was a non-believer in religion, ghosts, the after-life and anything she'd consider 'soppy nonsense'.

Towo days before she died, she was in a bad way and bedridden. She was lapsing in and out of consciousness. I sat with her constantly.

One evening she pointed towards the end of the bed. "Joe," she said, the name of my father, who had died 12 years earlier. "What, Mum?" I asked.

"He's here, waiting for me," she told me, "I can see him."

She looked happy and serene.

I still don't know what to make of it, but it did seem very real to her. I witnessed no other visions or imaginings. I wonder?

Life After Death

Vintage photo of man with a bird

Two short stories from my clippings, perhaps illustrating the possibility of life following, what we call, death.

My father died when my granddaughter was two-and-a-half. On our first Christmas without him, we were all in the kitchen at my daughter's house when my granddaughter came running in the room saying, "Grandpa's here."

She grabbed me by the hand, took me into the empty sitting room and pointed to the sofa, saying, "Look, here he is."

She could see him and was so happy. It made a difficult day much easier. She was too young to be pretending.

~ Grannytowins

My mother always sang You Are The Sunshine Of My Life when I was a little girl. On my birthday, five years after she had died, I said, "I love you Mum," and was so sad.

At that moment, out of all the songs in the world, Stevie Wonder came on the radio singing that song!

White Feather Stories: Messages From The Deceased

White feathers falling

Two more white feather stories I received over the last few days - the author of one wishes to remain anonymous.

When my mother died, it was the worst moment of my life. I was in tatters and, as silly as it sounds, I couldn't believe that she had really died.

At the funeral I was in bits as we stood around mother's grave. As I looked down at the coffin a large white feather fluttered down and settled on some flowers, on top of the coffin. A good friend said, "Look your mother is thinking about you." I wasn't sure what she meant but somehow it was as if I had pulled myself together. I stopped crying and felt at peace.

Over the next few days I saw other white feathers and I believe they were from mother telling me she was alright and I should get on with my life.

A couple of weeks later, I saw a white feather while walking in the park, and picked it up. As I did so someone asked, "A message from a loved one?" It was a lovely looking man and, to cut the story short, we are now married. I believe my mother had a hand in this.

~ Heidi H

My stepfather passed away. He was cremated, and we had a church service for him.

In the limo on the way to the cemetery, my mother was seated in front of me and had her window opened. As we drove through the cemetery to his burial plot, a white feather came twirling down from the sky, through the opened limo window and landed right in my mother's lap.

My mother picked it up and threw it out the window as I gasped. I wasn't sure, and don't remember how I had heard about a feather being a sign from a loved one who had passed. I never said anything to anyone at the time because I wasn't sure.

If I told anyone now, they probably wouldn't believe me. So I just keep it between my stepfather and I. He must have wanted me to see it too.

White Feathers And A Coincidence

White feather

A story from Yvonne which is self explanatory and covers both coincidence and white feathers.

I wanted to say thank you for your posts about white feathers and how they sometimes can help the bereaved.

I had recently lost my sister and was feeling very down. I decided to got for a walk and outside my front door there was a large, almost fluffy white feather. I probably wouldn't have given this any significance but for your blog.

For some reason I felt I should visit my sister's grave. There was a bus stop nearby and as I reached it a bus, which passed by the cemetery, pulled up. I got on so I could visit the grave.

At the cemetery I could see another woman standing near to what seemed to be my sister's grave. It was too soon to have a headstone. The woman turned out to be a childhood friend of my sister and I who I hadn't seen for maybe ten years. She had read of Maggie's death and decided to pay her respects.

That was a big enough coincidence until I noticed that on my sister's grave was another white feather.

I'm not sure if this was a message from my sister but it brought me great comfort as did seeing our friend at the graveside - who I would have missed if I hadn't have decided to get on that particular bus.

Since that day I have seen several more white feathers and they bring a smile to my face.

Help And Assistance From beyond The Grave

Car crash ghost

Here's a couple of short stories, from my cuttings, about people receiving assistance from beyond the grave - by their grandfather. Imagination of fact?

"I recently had a car crash. I'm lucky to have come out alive. For a brief moment before the impact, I saw my granddad standing between my car and the oncoming vehicle.

I have no idea how or why this could happen, but I knew in that moment that I would be okay and I felt calm at such an awful time. Strange."

"My sister had given birth to the first grandchild in our family, and had come home from hospital.

She wasn't used to carrying the baby around the house, and tripped over a rug and fell forwards with the baby in her arms.

Her husband saw her stumble and rushed to catch her but, before he could reach her from a distance, she was propelled back to standing. He was as shocked as anyone!

My sister said she smelled our late grandfather's familiar aftershave and knew it was he who had caught her and saved the baby."

White Feathers As Messages From the Deceased.

Finding

I haven't published any white feather stories for what seems an age, then these three arrived almost together. It's often said things come in threes! The stories relate to people finding white feathers following the death of a loved one.

My dad passed away suddenly on Easter Sunday 2016, then my mum had a heart attack the same day from shock.

My brother and I were at the hospital and then returned to their house It was was really weird neither of them being there, But their dog, Missy, kept looking where dad usually sat, staring,

We locked the main doors and I sat down, and my brother was near the fire, I said, "I wish dad would give us a sign," At that moment the door keys jangled, My brother looked and I looked and I smiled.

We didn't tell mum as we didn't want to worry her but today she rang up and said, "I found a white feather," I went, Okay ..." She was so happy and she explained it to me about white feathers. I went, "Wow," So I told her what happened with the door keys and that has given her great comfort

I cant believe dad has gone but there must be a better place where we go [after death].

~Rosie Buttons.

My lovely husband passed away three weeks ago 14/3/2016. My house was cleaned through yesterday. Last night I went to get a coffee. And lying on the carpet was a large eight inch fluffy white feather, all the doors had been closed. It was placed so perfectly. He did tell me he would give me a sign that he was be OK.

~ Anonymous.

Normally, I wouldn't be submitting these comments. but feel I have to share my experience with a white feather.

My wife passed away three weeks ago, losing her 2 year+ battle with cancer. She was at home wih us under hospice care, and shortly after she died I was in the room with her alone. I asked her if she would send me some kind of a sign to let me know she was OK.

Two days later I went into her room and in the middle of the bed was a single white dove feather. No one else had been in the room but me, so I have to believe it was my wife communicating with me.

Devil's Advocate: Doubts About Life After Death

There have been several articles in the UK media showing that the number of people who believe in life after death has increased. It's now at about 74% according to surveys - and this is despite the numbers of people going to church, and being involved in religions has declined considerably.

I have always believed in life after death, but let's play devil's advocate for a change.

In 2012 I had surgery. I was under the influence of anaesthetic from 8.30 am until about 4.30 pm. I have no memories at all for that eight hour period: I had no dreams, no mystical visitations or experiences from loved ones, I didn't leave my body or feel myself floating about and so on. My body was functioning but otherwise, for all intents and purposes, I was nothing at all. 'I' wasn't existing anywhere, the 'me' that is my thoughts, memories and experiences didn't exist.

So was that eight hour period identical to death? All that's left of us are the memories we have left behind and the influences we have sown in our children and surroundings.

But there again from my cuttings ...

After my mother passed away, I saw a light appear, which came closer and closer and got much brighter. Then her face appeared, surrounded by a dazzling light.

It was all very clear. She was just looking at me; then it started to fade before disappearing. I was obviously very shocked. I am not religious at all.

My mother experienced the same thing when her father passed away, which did make me feel better about it. She never told anyone else about that except me.

~ John Williamson

... but that could have been imagination, stress etc.

An Unexpected Link With My Mother

Victorian Birthday Book

A couple of weeks ago I was sorting through a case I have containing bits and pieces from my parents and grandparents. Somehow, when I had finished with the case, this old book got left behind. It's been languishing on my desk ever since.

It's a Birthday Book which belonged to my maternal grandmother.

Today (I'm writing this on the 22nd of March) my computer was doing an update. While I was waiting I picked up the book wondering if there was an entry for this particular date. There was: It read: "Winnie started work at Blacks."

The coincidence is that Winnie (Winifred) is my mother and this was the day she started work after leaving school at 15. Sadly mum died in 2005 at the age of 93. I had been thinking about her recently and then this pops up!

A sad thing is that I don't know who 'Blacks' were. It's something that never came up in conversation and I never asked what her first job was.

Against every date in the little book are quotations. Against the 22nd of March this is the entry:

The heights by great men reached and kept
Were not attained by sudden flight
But they, while companions slept
Were toiling upward in the night
~ Longfellow

By another coincidence Longfellow was my mother's favourite poet. She had a book of his complete works, which I have mentioned previously.

Strange the links that always remain with us.

Voices From The Dead

life after death

Following on from yesterday's post, here is another story, from Pam James, about hearing the voice of someone who has died. Again, is it fact or imagination at an emotional time?

Five days before Christmas 1993, my mum, aged 80, was admitted to hospital for investigations.

She told me she had discussed which hymns she wanted at her funeral with my sister.

I was quite indignant, but found myself saying that if she did go and there was 'another side', would she please come back and give me a sign. Sadly, on Christmas Eve, she died unexpectedly and we were called to the hospital.

Eventually we were given a cup of tea and I looked out of the window and thought what lovely weather it was. Suddenly, my mum shouted out: "I'm all right, I'm all right!" I put my hand to my throat as my heart was thumping so fast and hard.

However, what really surprised me was that the four other people in the room had not reacted and therefore heard nothing.

I think myself fortunate that I asked for a sign that day - I have no doubts that we survive death,

Hearing Voices From Beyond the Grave

Voices from beyond the grave

Hearing voices from beyond the grave - imagination or fact? Here is one such experience, see what you think. I'll publish another experience tomorrow.

Five years ago, my wife, Pat died. We had been together for more than 40 years and had often discussed what we thought happens when people die.

Pat had an outright belief in another life, but I used to joke that I was waiting for someone tell me. My wife's death completely destroyed me. But I survived beacuse I can hear her talking to me and I feel her presence.

I had a heart valve replaced in 2011 and I never had a moment's worry because she told me it would be OK.

I just wait until I can smell Pat's perfume and feel her touching my face, because I know she will be calling me soon.

I loved my wife totally and without question. It can be an advantage to see the other side sometimes. Love never dies.

Haunted By Her Ex-Husband Who Begged Forgiveness

Forgiveness

A story today with ghostly connections. The writer wishes to remain anonymous.

My former husband, John, ensured by various means that our son and I were systematically denied fair financial support,

In short, I had many very hard years of single parenthood and overwork, while he lived a very comfortable, easy life.

He died unexpectedly at the age of 57. Shortly after his death, I felt a presence in my home. Though he had never lived here. I just knew it was him.

I told the presence to leave our our son and me alone (in a less polite manner) - he had done enough harm in life. The presence persisted on and off.

Several months later, I came by chance across someone at work, Peter, who told me he was a psychic medium. We were chatting together when he told me I had 'something' hanging about me.

Later that day, he sent me a text with a drawing of a young man's face. In the text he asked: "Does it mean anything, linking to the song I Can't Let Maggie Go ?" None of it added up at this stage.

The next day in the office, we were discussing this and were both suddenly hit with a tingling sensation like an electric shock.

Peter said: "He is here. his name is John, he needs your forgiveness, he can't move on."

Peter was looking at something over my shoulder. I was terrified to turn around in case I saw something. I shouted: "Leave me alone!" and it went away.

We looked again at the picture and yes, I recognised that this was John as a young man in the Seventies. The song signalled that I had to forgive him and 'let him go.'

It seemed that the strength of my ill-feelings was holding him back.

Later, on reflection, I said the Lord's Prayer to express my forgiveness of John. I then felt a great lightening of spirit.

Automatic Writing And A Letter From The Dead

Automatic writing

A long time ago, when I was experimenting with different ideas, I tried automatic writing.

Wikipedia describe this as: psychography ... a psychic ability allowing a person to produce written words without consciously writing. The words are claimed to arise from a subconscious, spiritual or supernatural source.

But, whatever automatic writing is - it didn't work for me, all I got was lots of scribble! However, here is a story, by Dorothy Service, that could be a real example - if you believe such things are possible, of course.

Many years ago I worked with a class of young children and occasionally had a special needs teacher to assist. When her husband died in a car accident, I helped in any way I could.

Two of three months later, I was watching TV and making a to-do list. After a while, I became aware that the sidelights on the walls had started to flicker - but I ignored it.

As I sat there letting the sights and sounds from the TV wash over me as I wrote, it eventually began to dawn on me that I hadn't taken in a single thing for the last hour.

However the paper in front of me was covered in writing.

What I had in front of me was effectively a letter from my colleague's dead husband to his grieving wife. It was a plea for forgiveness for all the times he'd behaved so badly when he was alive.
Auto writing

'I know quite well that [their son's name] would be sitting at the kitchen table eating his evening meal but that as the sound of my car's tyres crunching on the gravelled drive, he would leave the table, scrape the uneaten food into the bin and rush upstairs to his room.'

The writing pleaded me to 'give this letter to my poor wife'. I didn't, of course - not then.

That year, however, was one of electrical disturbances. Nothing major, just persistent.

The sidelights were checked by the electrician and we were told everything was fine. Just over a year after everything happened, my colleague and I were sitting in the staff room - we all knew by now that her husband had been a very difficult man - and speaking of her son, she said, "Do you know, he would be sitting at the table eating his dinner, but the minute he heard his father's car in the drive he would rush from the table, scrape his uneaten food into the bin and then run upstairs ..."

Listening to those words convinced me the letter that I had received / written was from her husband. Later, I took her to one side and, as gently as possible, told her about what had happened. She believed me.

Naturally I gave her the letter. It was never mine to keep. Oh, and in case you're wondering, there were no electrical problems after that.

The Mystery Of Seeing And Talking To The Dead Admiral

Sinking of battleship Victoria 1893
Sinking of the Battleship Victoria 1893
When tragedies occur there are often strange tales associated with the disaster. I came across such an example from 1893 - June 22nd to be precise.

This was when the British Royal Navy Flagship, Victoria, was rammed by another ship - Camperdown - one of it's own squadron, and subsequently sank. Most on board went to a watery grave.

The story is that of the admiral, Sir George Tryon .... here is a cutting from the time ...

Information on sinking of ship

Okay, now the 'strange' part.

At the time as the collision, the admiral's wife was giving a party in her home at Eaton Square, London.

Not long after 3:30 p.m guests say they saw the unmistakeable figure of Sir George Tryon 'stride across the drawing room'. The guests mentioned this to Lady Tryon, who had not seen the figure. She told them that her husband was with his ship.

Some of the guests even claimed to have spoken to Sir George and were adamant that they had seen him.

The admiral was never seen again.

So, who did the guests see? A ghost or spirit? A trick of the light, or perhaps a similar looking man?

Are These Comforting Messages From Dead Loved Ones?

Light beyond brilliance

My late grandfather was such a lovely, gentle, kind man.

My husband, Wyn, died on July 5, ten weeks short of our golden wedding anniversary. On returning home late one morning, I found a message had been left on my answer phone. The message was very short, it said: "How are you?" The voice was my dead husband's.

The message is still saved on the answer phone, and friends and colleagues of my husband's confirmed - without me prompting - that it is his voice.
