Messages From The Dead Via White Doves, White Feathers And Butterflies

White dove

Following on from all of those other posts about white feathers, white doves and butterflies as witnessed following a loved one departing this world, here are two more readers experiences. Both wish to remain anonymous.

"I lost my mum in 2007, I was with her when she passed away.

A few days later there was a gorgeous white feather on my doorstep. Unsure, I asked my neighbour what this could mean. She told me I had been visited by an angel. The feather is still in my Bible to this day. It's not a seagull feather, nor any other known bird in this area. It's a beautiful white downy fluffy feather and I still have it! xx"

"A few years ago my life changed forever. My husband showed up at my office with tears streaming down his face telling me my brother passed away. I remember him driving me home. We sat outside taking it all in, and waiting on phone calls from other family members to make driving/flying arrangements to his town (10 hours away).

I was beyond devastation when a beautiful butterfly flew directly in between us. It hovered for probably a whole minute, circled around my head and then circled around my husband's head and then flew away.

We were actually crying and laughing, as this was clearly miraculous.

On our very long drive to the funeral I took with me my books on Angels and connecting with loved ones who have passed away.

While engrossed in my book, a few hours into the trip, I was startled by the loudest sound I've ever heard. Something slammed into the windshield - we were travelling at 70 miles an hour.

I asked my husband, "What was that?"

He said (as we were pulling off the highway into a gas station), "A white dove came out of nowhere and hit our windshield!"

The craziest part is it left no blood, no feathers, just this white powder that made the most beautiful image of a perfect angel wing. It was as fine as flour, dusted lightly on our windshield. I actually took my finger and touched it in amazement.

Has anyone else ever been hit by a dove? I'd like to think the dove didn't die but, at 70 mph, how could it not."

Were the Three White Feathers a Sign That a Guardian Angel Helped Me To Buy a New Car?

I'm writing about white feathers today. No doubt you've heard such stories previously. Some say they are from angels. Perhaps a Guardian Angel.

I haven't reached a definite opinion about angels and/or white feathers but the following is something that happened to me.

The first time I experienced white feathers was when I bought a new car. There, on a grass verge next to my car, when I went to collect it, were three white feathers, all lined up next to each other. I read afterwards that finding three feathers is supposedly your Guardian Angel letting you know they are about.

The car purchase was a little odd because, being me, I shopped around for the best price. I took ages deciding and then finally, to my wife's disappointment, reached the conclusion that the car I wanted was slightly too expensive.

That night I tried visualisation, seeing the car at the price I could afford and requesting that this would come about. By this I mean that I sat quietly picturing myself with a new car and buying it at a price I was happy about - cosmic ordering if you like. (Mind you, I should have simply visualised the car being mine without any price tag. I now know better!)

Nevertheless the next day my wife was seeing one of her dressmaking clients. In the general chat my wife mentioned the car I was thinking about buying.

Now by chance / coincidence, or whatever, the client said she had a friend who was a car dealer and sold this particular make. She went on to say he was desperate for a few sales otherwise he could lose his dealership. Seemingly he had to sell a target number of cars each quarter.

She phoned him to see what sort of price he would take for the model I wanted. He gave his 'bottom' price and I said this was still too expensive. He asked what sort of price I hoped to pay. I told him, via the dress making client, and he agreed on a price below what I was willing to pay. He reckoned he wouldn't make any money on the deal - that could have just have been car sales talk. But I was more than happy with the result

So, to sum up, I'd asked the universe / cosmic, or whatever you want to call it, for a car at a certain price and I got it. Then, when I picked up the car, there were three white feathers lying next to it - a message of confirmation perhaps from a higher level? Or just my imagination?

Ghosts and White Feathers Seen While Self Isolating

Over the last week or two my wife has felt what she describes as a shadow behind her, when in our kitchen. It doesn't scare her in any way. So whatever, or whoever, it is isn't in any way evil or nasty - she just feels that something is watching her.

I hadn't thought too much about this until I was flicking through an old copy of the Daily Mail's You magazine. In an article it mentions how some people are experiencing visitations of ghosts and spirits during this time of problems with the coronavirus.

They give a few experiences of what people have seen. A woman, for example, sees a ghost who she describes as Top Hat Man. He is like a shadow at the periphery of her vision.

There's also a pub full of differing spirits - the non alcoholic sort - which includes Harold who scares guests by grabbing their necks - and so the stories go on.

A spiritualist medium You magazine consulted, is quoted as saying, "It's not surprising that people may be more aware at this time of being in lockdown … now many of us are at home all day we have more time for reflection. There are fewer distractions so we're more responsive to energies around us."

A while back I wrote about how three important people in our lives died within a short period of time. Two of the deaths were completely unexpected.

I mention this as my wife, at that difficult time, sensed someone touching her gently and saw the shape of one of the deceased in the kitchen window. Again, this wasn't scary.

This all happened around the time I first began to see white feathers following the loss of loved ones. This started when my mother died. The feathers seemed to be everywhere and these continued following our two other losses as well.

See my post White Feathers Comfort The Bereaved. There are also dozens and dozens of other white feather posts on this blog.

The coronavirus has had an effect on us in so many ways. Our lives could well be altered forever.

P.S. My wife had another creepy happening last night. She went up to bed before me. After a while she heard footsteps in the bedroom, we have a wooden floor. Thinking it was me she never looked up. If she had done so she would have realised that I was still downstairs!

Signs From Loved Ones Who Have Died

There seems to be so many ways loved ones can leave a message after their death. On this blog, for example, you will find a myriad of stories where people have seen white feathers following the loss of someone close. This has happened to me personally.

People have also seen butterflies, robins, other birds, including doves, and so on.

Today, though, something different : a praying mantis!

Lola has told me of her experience:

"In this day and age we often miss the signs of our loved ones who have passed on. I have experienced loss enough times to believe there are definite signs that show loved ones remain in our lives and help us through the grieving process.

People have there own individual signs. For me it is the praying mantis. After a loss in the family we will start to see them everywhere, no matter what time of the year it is."

While on this theme lets also look at white feathers once more. Here is an experience from someone who prefers to remain anonymous.

"My sister passed away very suddenly aged 17. I had never seen a white feather in our house previously, but they began appearing every single day for the first couple of weeks after she passed away.

I wasn't very religious beforehand, but I definitely took it as a sign.

When it was time for me to leave my home a few weeks later, to go back to college, I found a gigantic white feather on my bag, and one stuck to the car door! when things were most difficult, white feathers would appear.

They then began appearing in my college dorm when I returned, something which never happened before. As time went on, they became less common. Then, about a year later, on the morning of my graduation, a huge feather floated down towards me. I definitely take it as her way of letting us know she is ok"

White Feathers Following The Loss Of a Loved One

White feathers

It's a while since I published any white feather stories so here are three I have received recently. These are experiences where white feathers are seen following a loved ones death.

Today would have been my mother's 97th birthday. Just before the family were leaving to go and put flowers on her grave a lovely wee white feather floated down among us - mum letting us know she was there.

I like the stories about the white feathers, possibly looking for comforting signs - but something proved it for me...

I was going for a big operation [surgery] and was a bit nervous of course. My mum had passed away two years before this. I was sitting waiting for the trolley to take me to the theatre when the orderly walked in then said, "I guess that's for you". On the empty chair beside me was a beautiful white feather. This was a closed room with no windows. I felt so good.

When I was recovering, following the operation, a nurse said you have a gift in your drawer. The orderly had put the feather in a plastic case and handed it to the ward ... a sure sign it was from a loved one.

~ Rose Mcloughlin

My father, 94, passed in January. I found a white feather by my car door, I found one on a bush at my house and another on a shirt in a clothing store.

I bought a new car and there was one in the lobby. My cat is dying and I asked my dad to show a sign. I was sitting outside and looked up in the sky and a white feather was floating over my house in the wind. The white feathers appear when I really need my dad with me.

~ Laurie

My mum passed away last night and a large white feather fluttered over the family as we were leaving the hospital. I'd never heard of this before but my sister knew and pointed it out. It's too much of a coincidence and seen by too many people not to be true ... I love you mum.

Okay they may not be the best white feather examples (though they are important to the people concerned) but over the years I have had a flood of such stores. It all started when I lost three very close people in a short period of time: my mother, daughter and my best friend of thirty years. After each of their deaths my wife and I started seeing white feathers wherever we went. If we started talking about one of them a feather would appear. I remember once going to visit our daughter's grave and a feather did a complete circle and landed where we were standing.

I know many will say this was all imagination or coincidence but it was meaningful and comforting to us at that difficult time. I wrote about this on my blog and it seems many, many others have had similar experiences.

A White Feather To Cilla From Bobby

Cilla Black 1960s
Cilla Black in the 1960s
A little something I read recently about Cilla Black - a British pop star from the Beatles era.

When Cilla's husband, Bobby, died she was, needless to say, traumatised. She would spend hours sitting under a willow tree in her garden, in Denham, talking to Bobby, and praying for a sign from him. One day, a white feather floated through the air and landed at her feet.

This convinced Cilla that Bobby was in touch with her and she is quoted as telling her sons, "I know he is waiting for me. When the time comes, we will be together again."

I seem to be getting many white feather stories recently. Not perhaps ones suitable for publishing on the blog but nevertheless interesting as a whole. If you search for white feathers at the top of the page you will find dozens of such stories on this blog.

Cilla had also seen a ghost in her house - a pallid faced girl, in a long white dress with a ruffled collar. Cilla and Bobby had seen her in their bedroom and other visitors had glimpsed the girl in other parts of the house.

Research was done and it was found that 14 year old Lilian Redley, the daughter of the gardener, was recorded as having died in the house in 1912. A clairvoyant claimed that Lilian had died in childbirth and was 'earth bound' as she was looking for her baby,

Cilla Black died last year.

White Feather Stories: Messages From The Deceased

White feathers falling

Two more white feather stories I received over the last few days - the author of one wishes to remain anonymous.

When my mother died, it was the worst moment of my life. I was in tatters and, as silly as it sounds, I couldn't believe that she had really died.

At the funeral I was in bits as we stood around mother's grave. As I looked down at the coffin a large white feather fluttered down and settled on some flowers, on top of the coffin. A good friend said, "Look your mother is thinking about you." I wasn't sure what she meant but somehow it was as if I had pulled myself together. I stopped crying and felt at peace.

Over the next few days I saw other white feathers and I believe they were from mother telling me she was alright and I should get on with my life.

A couple of weeks later, I saw a white feather while walking in the park, and picked it up. As I did so someone asked, "A message from a loved one?" It was a lovely looking man and, to cut the story short, we are now married. I believe my mother had a hand in this.

~ Heidi H

My stepfather passed away. He was cremated, and we had a church service for him.

In the limo on the way to the cemetery, my mother was seated in front of me and had her window opened. As we drove through the cemetery to his burial plot, a white feather came twirling down from the sky, through the opened limo window and landed right in my mother's lap.

My mother picked it up and threw it out the window as I gasped. I wasn't sure, and don't remember how I had heard about a feather being a sign from a loved one who had passed. I never said anything to anyone at the time because I wasn't sure.

If I told anyone now, they probably wouldn't believe me. So I just keep it between my stepfather and I. He must have wanted me to see it too.

White Feathers And A Coincidence

White feather

A story from Yvonne which is self explanatory and covers both coincidence and white feathers.

I wanted to say thank you for your posts about white feathers and how they sometimes can help the bereaved.

I had recently lost my sister and was feeling very down. I decided to got for a walk and outside my front door there was a large, almost fluffy white feather. I probably wouldn't have given this any significance but for your blog.

For some reason I felt I should visit my sister's grave. There was a bus stop nearby and as I reached it a bus, which passed by the cemetery, pulled up. I got on so I could visit the grave.

At the cemetery I could see another woman standing near to what seemed to be my sister's grave. It was too soon to have a headstone. The woman turned out to be a childhood friend of my sister and I who I hadn't seen for maybe ten years. She had read of Maggie's death and decided to pay her respects.

That was a big enough coincidence until I noticed that on my sister's grave was another white feather.

I'm not sure if this was a message from my sister but it brought me great comfort as did seeing our friend at the graveside - who I would have missed if I hadn't have decided to get on that particular bus.

Since that day I have seen several more white feathers and they bring a smile to my face.

White Feathers As Messages From the Deceased.

Finding

I haven't published any white feather stories for what seems an age, then these three arrived almost together. It's often said things come in threes! The stories relate to people finding white feathers following the death of a loved one.

My dad passed away suddenly on Easter Sunday 2016, then my mum had a heart attack the same day from shock.

My brother and I were at the hospital and then returned to their house It was was really weird neither of them being there, But their dog, Missy, kept looking where dad usually sat, staring,

We locked the main doors and I sat down, and my brother was near the fire, I said, "I wish dad would give us a sign," At that moment the door keys jangled, My brother looked and I looked and I smiled.

We didn't tell mum as we didn't want to worry her but today she rang up and said, "I found a white feather," I went, Okay ..." She was so happy and she explained it to me about white feathers. I went, "Wow," So I told her what happened with the door keys and that has given her great comfort

I cant believe dad has gone but there must be a better place where we go [after death].

~Rosie Buttons.

My lovely husband passed away three weeks ago 14/3/2016. My house was cleaned through yesterday. Last night I went to get a coffee. And lying on the carpet was a large eight inch fluffy white feather, all the doors had been closed. It was placed so perfectly. He did tell me he would give me a sign that he was be OK.

~ Anonymous.

Normally, I wouldn't be submitting these comments. but feel I have to share my experience with a white feather.

My wife passed away three weeks ago, losing her 2 year+ battle with cancer. She was at home wih us under hospice care, and shortly after she died I was in the room with her alone. I asked her if she would send me some kind of a sign to let me know she was OK.

Two days later I went into her room and in the middle of the bed was a single white dove feather. No one else had been in the room but me, so I have to believe it was my wife communicating with me.

Do Dead Loved Ones Return To Comfort Us?

Some people say they experience all sorts of things when a loved one dies. In my own case my wife and I kept seeing white feathers, over and over, when three very close people passed on, within a short period. In the following case, something completely different happens.

"My lovely mum passed away from cancer at the age of 87 years. I missed her terribly.

My partner and I witnessed electrical problems, with various lights flashing on and off in our rented accommodation (while our home was being restored following floods) then subsequently in our home when we returned.

Strangely enough, it always seemed to happen when I needed contact the most, and would perhaps be having a little cry.

One evening my daughter gave me some money for safe keeping that she had been gifted by her grandmother. I placed it in a drawer until I decided to retire to bed.

I grabbed the envelope containing the money, thinking it would be safer upstairs, and the lights immediately fused and the whole house blacked out completely.

Was I sacred? Not really - I laughed and told Mum out loud that I wasn't taking the money for myself, I was simply looking after it for my daughter. The lights kept behaving strangely for some time, until one evening I dreamt Mum was standing right next to me, looking so beautiful and quite radiant.

She told me she was very happy and we hugged so tightly I could feel her as if I was wide awake.

I woke up feeling like a weight had been lifted and I was so comforted by the lovely vision of my mum."

~ Lesley Woods

As to whether such stories prove our loved ones are still with us, is up to individual beliefs - but they are certainly comforting to the people concerned.

Herons As Messengers From The Deceased

Herons

I have written previously that, though coincidence and synchronicity are the most popular themes on this blog, the next most popular are white feathers and white doves - being seen following a loved ones death. Some say that these are 'messages' from those who have died. Today a new one for the collection: herons.

In my first marriage, we had a garden with four acres, and herons used to come to our wildlife pond regularly - we really loved seeing them.

Sadly, my husband and I divorced, but we remained close friends even though we both remarried In 2010, he died quickly of cancer. The next day, as I drove through an estate close by a heron appeared and landed on a roof.

I slowed down and watched it, and it turned and appeared to look at me. It stayed on the roof standing for about five minutes, watching me.

I relayed this to our son and he said a heron had landed in his garden at the same time.

I rang our daughter and she gasped. A heron had landed in her garden also.

We all live a long way away from each other, yet, we all saw a heron at the same time, the day after his death.

Her Grandfather's Photo Fell From The Wall As He Was Dying

This is Belinda's experience at the time of her grandfather's death.

I have read many of your posts on white feathers and doves. This is my little experience I would like to share.

My Father died when I was a child so when growing up I became very close to my grandfather who was a kind, loving, gentle man.

On leaving university I had to move away from my home town near London and move to the Midlands where I had secured employment. On the day I left my grandfather had tears in his eyes and I must say that I too was tearful as I drove away.

I kept in touch but I didn't visit him as many times as I know I should have done. I had a new job, new friends and a new life.

One night in August I had this strong dream about grandfather, so vivid I could remember it in detail. He was saying goodbye to me and was waving. I was so unsettled I phoned him in the morning but an aunt answered and told me that grandfather wasn't well and was in bed. She suggested that I should come as soon as I could.

The next day was a Saturday so I drove down to London. The same aunt answered grandfather's door and she ushered me inside. She said, "He's been asking for you but he's now asleep. See him when he wakes up."

We went into the living room where, as soon as I sat down, there was an almighty crash. From the other side of the room I could see grandfather's photo had fallen from the wall. It had always been there next to grandma's photo for as long as I could remember. Something urged me to rush upstairs, which I did. Grandfather was awake, he smiled at me and then took his last breath. I was heartbroken.

I think somehow he made his photo fall off the wall so he could see me and say goodbye before he died. Now I'm full of regrets at not seeing him as often as I could have.

Cilla Black Saw White Feathers Following Her Husband's Death

Cilla Black CD cover

It's white feathers again today with a story about Cilla Black, who sadly died this week. For those who may not know, Cilla was a singer at the Cavern Club at time of the Beatles and went on to have several chart hits. Later she become a television presenter. She was 72 when she died..

Bobby, Cilla's husband, died previously of lung cancer. She was, at the time, devastated but held a firm belief that she would meet him again when she died. She told Michael Hellicar, a colleague, the following - in Cilla's words:

"Since Bobby's been gone, I've had several little messages from him, so I know he's looking after me. He advised me from the spirit world that it was time to give up Blind Date [a TV show she presented], so I did..

"Gloria Hunniford told me that after her daughter, Caron Keating, died, she'd often find a white feather in the most unexpected places. She believed it was Caron's way of telling her that she's all right..

"So one day I went into the garden, where some of Bobby's ashes had been buried under a willow tree - the rest were scattered at our other homes in Spain, Barbados and on the roof terrace of our flat in Westminster..

"I told him that if he was supposed to be my guardian angel, I needed some proof. Suddenly, I looked down and there were five white feathers. I could swear they hadn't been there earlier.

"It was as though he was saying: 'You want feathers, Cilla? Here they are.'".

White Feathers As Messages From The Deceased

White feather

One of the the most popular themes I have covered on this blog is that of White Feathers - where they are seen following the loss of a loved one. Okay, I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea, and that many mock such things - that's fine!

I first raised the subject in 2010 because I experienced this myself. I saw white feathers, and in unusual circumstances, following the loss of three very close people within a short period of time.

I wrote back then: "The feathers felt like they were messages saying that things were alright. Often, after we saw one, something nice would happen. Of course, when we are emotional, there can be a tendency to hang on to whatever we find comforting. Some would say that the white feathers were like a crutch.

It's very easy to dismiss white feathers as something by chance or even superstition - feathers perhaps simply out of pillows, or even birds!"

Anyway, whatever your view. Here's a few more stories, some are anonymous - as the people concerned do not wish their names mentioned.

"My brother died last month following a long illness. We were very close and it was a heartbreaking time.

He died in hospital. Towards the end I visited him whenever I could. On his final day I stayed until midnight but the nurses persuaded me to go home and to get some rest. I did what they said.

At six o'clock in the morning the phone rang. I jumped out of bed, knowing who it was. It was the hospital telling me my brother had died. There was a white feather on the table next to the phone.

I headed for the hospital, as soon as I could, and on my car seat was another white feather. I've no idea how it could have got into a locked car. When I was inside the hospital the nurse, who had been so kind to me, said, "There's something on your shoulder." It was yet another white feather.

The feathers kept coming until after my brother's funeral. I really do feel they were messages from him."

~ Joan Ferguson

"I lost my dad on July 24, 2015. July 26th, while dealing with a contractor at his house, I found a white feather on the door handle of my car, finer than goose down, I didn't think anything of it, and blew it off my car with a mouthful of air.

Yesterday at the bank, I talked to an elderly gentleman who told me of finding a white feather the day his daughter passed away from cancer.

Then, while talking with a friend of mine who had lost his dad, he told me to look out for weird things to happen, and mentioned his own white feather story.

A friend and a stranger brought it up without any prompting. I am ex-catholic, and proudly agnostic but this has changed me, be it religious, or just a spiritual thing. I had never heard of this before searching the internet for any info or other's past experiences - goosebumps for sure..."

And it appears to sometimes even happen when people lose pets!

"My lovely dog Bugsy was put down 7 years ago and we randomly get white feathers. Today my beautiful dog Fergie was also put down and there was a large feather under the kitchen table just before the vet arrived. It made me smile that Bugsy was telling me she was going to look after her."

White Feather: A Sign Of Protection From Her Deceased Husband

White feather

It's a while since I published another white feather story but here's one that came fluttering down to me from Emma ****** - okay, by email.

I'm only 34 but a widow, my husband died last September, a horrible time for me as you can imagine. But since then I have been seeing white feathers. At first I didn't attach any importance to them but I started wondering about them because there seemed too many to be coincidence. I have now read many of the white feather stories on your blog which I found interesting.

The very first white feather I received was on my doorstep when I arrived home after my husband's funeral. I can now remember my sister saying, "Look at that," but I wasn't in any state to take it in.

For the next few days I kept finding feathers; in the garden, inside the house and when I went to the supermarket.

Three weeks after the funeral my sister asked me to go on holiday with her and her husband and two children to Devon. I immediately said no as I thought it disrespectful. They persuaded me a change of scenery would do me good and booked a cottage. I still had reservations about going.

We arrived in Devon, it was a lovely cottage and my room looked out onto the garden. I went to unpack my case and as I opened the lid there inside was a white feather. I have no idea how it got there, but it felt like my husband was giving me his approval.

As I walked out into the cottage garden there was another white feather and I actually smiled and felt like my husband was with me.

All of this may simply be me searching for comfort, but finding the feathers picks me up when I'm feeling down and I always say a thank you for the feather to my husband. I feel he is watching over me, in a protective way.

10. 67 Years After The D-Day Landings They Meet By Coincidence

Clifford will be 98 today and Bill is a mere lad of 88. 67 years ago they were soldiers with the Essex ... Read full post

Robins And Butterflies As Messengers From The Dead

It's interesting by the ways people believe they are contacted by loved ones who have died. On this blog, for example, I have published many such stories where white feathers, white doves and butterflies have supposedly been used to send messages from beyond the grave.

I was thinking about this as another example came to my attention recently, from the actress Amanda Abbington.

When Amanda has to play sad roles she has a method for appearing heartbroken. She thinks about her grandmother. In her own words:

"I think of my grandmother when I'm playing heartbreak. I miss her so much since she died four years ago. She was the most incredible, strong, intelligent, loving woman who was blissfully married to my grandfather for her entire adult life.

For me they were the benchmark of true love.

It might sound mental but I still talk to her every day. We have two robins in the garden who come right up to the kitchen step. I feel sure it's my grandparents paying us a visit."

I can understand how she feels that about her grandparents. We have a robin in our garden and sometimes two. When I'm out there he seems to follow me about. If I'm digging and leave the spade in the ground he'll sit in the handle. If I go from the back to the front garden he'll follow me.

The logical reason for the robin to follow me is because I'm turning over the ground, or cutting the grass and this provides him with insects. But I wouldn't knock Amanda's belief.

My blogging friend Trish of synchrosecrets has written about how straight pins mysteriously appeared following the death of her friend's grandmother. And back in 2011 I wrote about strands of wool which appeared to Leanne after her mother died.

I also published a post giving 22 examples of how the dead may possibly contact us.

Many people will laugh and mock such suggestions, but those who have had such experiences have found comfort from them. You can argue that this still doesn't make them genuine, we tend to cling onto hope wherever possible, but let's at the very least keep an open mind.

Over the years I've had more blog visitors read posts about white feathers and white doves than any other theme. If we do live on after our stint on Earth then, just that fact, must make more things possible than we realise.
