Vintage images again from my Google+ Pages. The one above is from a very old picture, about 1875 and he has quite a scary appearance. But I also noticed one of Anne Kennedy's posts - the laundry advert below.

One Of The Great Secrets To Create A Successful Life

The mind and success

I've mentioned before how I sometimes take a book at random and open it up to see what words of wisdom I find - if any. Today I picked up The Science Of Mind by Ernest Holmes, which I see was first published back in 1938. Page 400 has the following, about how to create a successful life:

"Conscious thought is the starting point of every creation. Trained thought is more powerful than untrained thought since the admission that thought is power gives it added power. This is one of the great secrets of Mental Science. Conscious thought is the starting point. The Subjective Law knows only to obey. It can do nothing else. It has no will of its own. We impress our will upon it. We do not will as though we were using an arbitrary force, we impress it. We should be careful to differentiate between these attitudes of mind.

The idea of a successful life will create success. This idea will find objective form in the outer world of the one who holds to it with conviction. It must first become established in the conscious mind. It will then transmit itself into a subjective embodiment when this happens success will become habitual"

For those wondering how to be successful in 2015 (or at any time) there's the answer! We first create and picture the successful life we desire. If we get the message across to the unconscious mind, with the aid of belief, then it has to come to fruition.

I don't really have to add anything else!

A Goddess Authorised Thugs To Strangle And Sacrifice Millions

Thuggee

The word thug originated from the Thuggee, a scary secret organisation, who once roamed India. They were highway robbers who also just happened to dabble in human sacrifice. They were considered to have been at their height at the beginning of the 19th Century. The word 'thug' in northern India means 'deceiver' but in southern India they were also known as Phansigari or 'stranglers'.

Kali
The Thuggee themselves believed they had been created by Kali, the Hindu goddess of death.

The goddess supposedly created them from the sweat on her arms, following a mighty battle with a demon. She provided them with strangling cloths and sent them off to kill other demons - but without shedding their blood.

The Thuggee must have done their job very efficiently as the other demons were quickly overcome. As a reward the goddess authorised them to kill and rob travellers, so they could finance themselves and support their families. This they did with great enthusiasm.

Strangulation was their method for killing usnsuspecting travellers. For this they used a Rumāl (a head covering or kerchief) which translates as 'yellow scarf'. So they continued to kill without shedding blood.

Thuggee - sometimes in groups up to 50 in number - travelled the country and lured unsuspecting travellers to journey with them. When they reached certain traditional killing grounds they would turn on the travellers, strangling them and robbing them of any money or valuable objects. Victims of the Thuggee were sacrificed to Kali

The organisation developed their own language, Ramasi, and like other secret societies had secret gestures that allowed them to signal each other unnoticed.

The Thuggee had their female counterparts in a secret sect of Tantrists who held that it was only by a constant indulgence in passion that a human could ever achieve total union with Kali. Only indulgence in the five vices that corrupt the soul of humankind - wine, meat, fish, mystical gesticulations, and sexual indulgence - could drive the poisons out of the human body and purify the soul.

It's not known when the Thuggee originated, but Sir H.M Elliot wrote in his 'History of India' "... that in 1290 some Thugs were taken in Delhi, and a man belonging to that fraternity was the means of about a thousand being captured."

But the Thuggee thrived until British rule in India.

The Thug's activites were investigated and it was established that they were a nationwide organisation. In 1830 Sir William Sleeman (photo right)  was appointed to suppress Thugee throughout central India.

By 1850 the Thugee were virtually extinct. Hundreds were hanged but Sleeman offered some of them pardons for inside information, and established schools for the group's children. Many of these became carpet weavers and a carpet, made by them, was commissioned by Queen Victoria for her Palace in England.

Alls well that ends well, some say. But it mustn't be forgotten how many people the Thuggee killed. According to the Guinness Book of Records the cult was responsible for approximately 2,000,000 deaths. The political scientist, David C. Rapoport, states that an estimated 500,000 were killed by the Thugs, making them the most destructive terrorist group in history.

Elvis Presley And The World He Influenced

A young Elvis Presley

Today Elvis Presley would have been 80, which seems unimaginable to me. When I was young he was one of my idols. The image above is actually a scan of a photo I had on my bedroom wall, all those years ago  - yes, I've still got it!

When the Beatles came along and all of the Mersey Beat I, of course, took to their music as well but in my mind I was always faithful to Elvis. Strange what influences we have on our lives.

We are all influenced by the people we meet and, in turn, we influence others - whether we set out to do so or not. Going back to Elvis, I never smoked because of him and for a long time wouldn't drink alcohol, again because of him. I'd read in a magazine somewhere that - at that time, in his early years - he didn't - so I didn't.

All the time we are being influenced and very often without us realising it.

A bit like plasticine, we can be moulded by those around us, and by what we read and see in the media at large. Everything has a slight or greater effect on us and somehow we have to take control and make sure that our opinions and actions are really our own.

Ideally we should do and think what we really want to do and think - and importantly make sure our children and grandchildren are doing the same - or would that be influencing them ...

Well, I didn't expect this post to go in the direction it has. I intended to simply pay a brief tribute to Elvis. Wonder what the influence was to change course ...

Street Art In A Cornish Town

Cornwall art tin miners

A simple off subject post today. I saw these examples of street art in my local town in Cornwall and their simplicity appealed to me.

I guess the artwork above shows a Cornish tin miner, but to the right there appears to be soldiers perhaps from World War I.

Below the mother and child are crying tears of blood, maybe associated with the loss of life.

Street art Cornwall

And the third: gardening? allotments? The women or girls are wearing ties - associated with some sort of uniform?

Street art St Austell Cornwall

Whatever the interpretation they brighten a dismal wall and, with a bit of luck, us too.

Robins And Butterflies As Messengers From The Dead

It's interesting by the ways people believe they are contacted by loved ones who have died. On this blog, for example, I have published many such stories where white feathers, white doves and butterflies have supposedly been used to send messages from beyond the grave.

I was thinking about this as another example came to my attention recently, from the actress Amanda Abbington.

When Amanda has to play sad roles she has a method for appearing heartbroken. She thinks about her grandmother. In her own words:

"I think of my grandmother when I'm playing heartbreak. I miss her so much since she died four years ago. She was the most incredible, strong, intelligent, loving woman who was blissfully married to my grandfather for her entire adult life.

For me they were the benchmark of true love.

It might sound mental but I still talk to her every day. We have two robins in the garden who come right up to the kitchen step. I feel sure it's my grandparents paying us a visit."

I can understand how she feels that about her grandparents. We have a robin in our garden and sometimes two. When I'm out there he seems to follow me about. If I'm digging and leave the spade in the ground he'll sit in the handle. If I go from the back to the front garden he'll follow me.

The logical reason for the robin to follow me is because I'm turning over the ground, or cutting the grass and this provides him with insects. But I wouldn't knock Amanda's belief.

My blogging friend Trish of synchrosecrets has written about how straight pins mysteriously appeared following the death of her friend's grandmother. And back in 2011 I wrote about strands of wool which appeared to Leanne after her mother died.

I also published a post giving 22 examples of how the dead may possibly contact us.

Many people will laugh and mock such suggestions, but those who have had such experiences have found comfort from them. You can argue that this still doesn't make them genuine, we tend to cling onto hope wherever possible, but let's at the very least keep an open mind.

Over the years I've had more blog visitors read posts about white feathers and white doves than any other theme. If we do live on after our stint on Earth then, just that fact, must make more things possible than we realise.

Her Dead Mother Guides Her And She Knows She Will See Her Again

Heaven dream

An interesting experience from Jenny which may indicate that those who have died can contact us through dreams. Some may write this off as purely a vivid dream but to Jenny, as you will read, it was much, much more.

"My mother Joan and I were incredibly close. When she died in January 1998, after a series of strokes that had led to vascular dementia and pneumonia, I struggled to cope.

At the first anniversary of her death loomed, I was comforted by the idea that I had a skiing holiday booked with friends. Yet on the anniversary itself, despite the warmth and companionship of those friends, the loss of mum struck me acutely.

The following morning, before waking, I had what I can only describe as a very vibrant dream. Over time I've come to realise it was much more than that.

I became aware of a great light and voice - unspoken but sensed somehow - that told me I was going to see my mother, and that afterwards I must go forward and live my life and allow her to move forward also.

I was led through a door into a room with an amazingly bright and uplifting light - so bright it was blinding - but I knew my Mum was there because I felt the most unbelievable, unconditional love of a kind greater than anything else I've felt on Earth, before or since.

It was all-consuming, and when I woke up it was with a sense of renewed peace. My mother, I felt, had given me freedom to move on.

From that day I was able to look forward and start to plan for the future - aided by a sense that Mum was with me.

Unlike a dream, which evaporates over time, the experience has stayed with me, growing stronger. I feel that, in her own way, Mum guides me and I will see her again, and that brings me enormous comfort."

~ Jenny
