Was Their Contacting Each Other Coincidence, Telepathy Or Precognition?

Two women for tea public domain
Picture: Public Domain
How weird is this short story? Well it probably depends on what you believe. It could be a coincidence, but there again it could be some sort of telepathy or maybe precognition was involved. But, whatever, it would appear that the two people concerned were meant to be friends for life.

My childhood best friend, Roe, and I lost touch for over 15 years, mainly because I moved to London to work and she remained in the same town, married and had children.

With little in common any more, we sadly slipped apart. But just over 15 years later, out of the blue, I decided to send her a card, to let her know I was thinking about her.

The next day, my mother called me to say that a card had dropped through their letterbox for me. It was from Roe! It had been posted the same day that I had posted my card to her.

We will never lose touch again: our friendship was meant to be.

A Coincidence Sign That Perhaps Britain Will Exit The European Union!

Independence Day: Resurgence

I was looking at a poster for the movie Independence Day: Resurgence and noticed that it will be released in the UK on June 23rd. "Ding," a bell rang in my head, could this be a sign about what is being called Brexit.

"Is this a precognitive coincidence, showing that the result of the British referendum will be Independence from Europe?" I wondered.

Release date Independence Day: Resurgence

For those who may not know: Brexit is an abbreviation of British exit. It refers to the possibility that Britain will withdraw from the European Union. The country will hold an in-out referendum on its EU membership on June 23.

Brexit

So, is this a sign that Britain will regain it's Independence from the European Union? Okay, the most likely result is that we will remain in the EU - but the tide could well be turning ... I shall be voting to leave.

Resurgence:
noun
meaning: an increase or revival after a period of little activity, popularity, or occurrence.
synonyms: renewal, revival, recovery, rally, upturn, comeback, reinvigoration, reawakening, resurrection, reappearance, re-emergence, rejuvenation, regeneration, new birth, rebirth, renaissance, new dawn, new beginning

Time will tell!

Following Their Intuition Saved Their Lives

Invicta International Airline 1973
Invicta International Airlines Vickers 952 Vanguard
Sometimes an intuitive feeling can save us from danger and, as this post shows, it's important to follow those premonitions, no matter what.

We are turning the clock back to 1973.

It was to be a very special day out for some of the women from Axbridge in Somerset, England. They were about to fly to Basel (sometimes spelt Basle) in beautiful Switzerland. It was all going to be a very memorable occasion: shopping, sightseeing and so on. Women from the Axbridge Ladies Guild and the Congresbury Ladies' Skittle Team had been saving for ages so they could have this quite adventurous day trip. As were many others.

As the day finally approached Madge Pye and Connie Wookey both decided they didn't want to go to Basel. This meant they would both lose their money, so their friends tried hard to persuade them not to miss out. They also had to put up with a lot of playful leg-pulling about why they wouldn't fly - but Madge and Connie stuck to their guns and were adamant that they wouldn't be joining their friends on their special day out.

Connie said about the flight, "Don't ask me why I changed my mind, I just had a funny feeling about the trip. A voice told me to stay home." As for Madge she had a premonition about the flight which was strong enough for her to cancel her booking.

On Tuesday the 10th of April 1973 at 8.30 a.m the flight to Basel took off on time with 148 passengers and crew. A few hours later came news which sent the whole of Axbridge into mourning.

At 10am the pilot, Captain Ivor Terry, flew the plane over the Hericourt radio beacon at an altitude of 7000 feet. This was the final leg of the flight into Basel.

At 10.10am Basel Traffic Control lost contact with the flight, code named Oscar Papa. There was a great deal of turbulence and Oscar Papa dropped through a cloud base into one of the worst blizzards that had been seen for ages.

At 10.18am fire chief Hansreudi Voegtli phoned the airport to say he had heard a plane flying low overhead followed by the sounds of a crash. He was at a small hamlet called Herrenmatt just nine miles from Basel.

The plane had ploughed into a snowy, forested hillside near Basel, somersaulted and broken up. Due to confusion on behalf of the authorities rescue teams took until 12.05 to reach the site of the disaster - which happened just a few hundred yards away from the phone where Hansreudi had made his phone call.

108 of the passengers and crew were killed. In one heart-breaking moment fathers had lost their entire families, scores of children their mothers.

An awful, almost unthinkable, tragedy but somehow the premonitions of Madge Pye and Connie Wookey saved their lives. They listened to their inner voices and were spared.

The Dream Of An Air Crash Came True

Precognition in dreams

Precognition within dreams, isn't always good news - especially if any message is ignored. Here is such a story to which there are three parts.

Firstly there is the dream which David Redman-Thomas had back in the late 1960's. He awoke one day screaming with fear. When his wife, Merle, asked him what was wrong he laughed it off and said that he had imagined himself plunging from the sky.

Merle also had a dream, the second part of this story.

She described the dream about her trainee amateur pilot husband. "In the dream I watched my husband take off and fly around the airfield. Suddenly the plane plummeted to the ground. I recognised the control tower and other buildings very clearly. It was Wycombe Air Park. It was all so realistic that I woke up in tears. My husband told me not to be so silly and to go back to sleep."

The following Easter Monday David drove his wife and children to Wycombe Air Park where he was due to have his very first solo flight that morning. Everything was arranged and David kissed his wife and headed towards his aircraft.

He was stopped on the way by his friend, another David - David Poore - who invited him for a ride first in his aircraft.

Merle continues with the story. "That was when my dream started to come true. I saw them take off and start circling the airfield. Then the engine began to miss badly. As I watched it fell from the sky and out of sight behind some trees. It all happened within five minutes of take off."

The two Davids died in the accident.

The third part of this story happens the day after the crash. It was broad daylight and Merle saw an image of her husband's face.

Merle explains, "At two o'clock the next day, following the accident, I was at home talking to my mother when suddenly I saw David staring at me from the opposite wall. His face was completely unmarked, but I noticed his hair was standing up at the front as if somebody had cut a lock from it."

"I hadn't wanted to see his body, but the next day my father-in-law handed me a lock of hair as a keepsake. He told me David's face was unmarked and that he had cut the hair from exactly the same spot as in my vision."

Think of it as you will.

He Foresaw His Brother's Plane Crash In A Dream

Vickers Wellington plane

The British entertainer Bruce Forsyth, now 87, has been telling of his experience of how he foresaw his brother's fatal plane crash in World War II.

Bruce, then 15, had a slight accident. He fell over, felt dizzy, disorientated and nauseous. In his words:

"... Suddenly I'm on a plane, flying over the sea. Not flying, I'm plummeting downwards out of control, at an acute angle. There is nothing I can do. I stagger towards the open door of the aircraft as the dark water rushes towards me. I jump ... a strange and unpleasant dream as I drift in and out of consciousness. What makes it particularly disturbing, however, is that I've never been on an aeroplane."

Bruce recovers and thinks no more about this until he returned home.

"Normally my mother would call out cheerfully the moment I walked through the door. Not this time. I found her sitting in her chair, gazing into space. 'What's up, Mum?' That's when she told me that my brother John - by then an RAF pilot - had been posted as missing."

It wasn't until many years later, after his parents had died, that he received an explanation as to what had happened to his brother on the night he went missing.

"They had been practising laying sea mines and one of the Wellington planes ditched in the drink. John's plane, plus another, went back to help in the search and rescue. With their lights on, flying just above the water in an attempt to spot survivors, these two Wellingtons collided. Of the 18 men from the three aircraft that crashed, only seven were picked up. John was not one of them."

It would appear therefore that Bruce's dream was a precognition. It's also possible that the dream and the plane crashing happened at the same time.

Bruce says that he still thinks of John even to this day.

He Saw A Ghostly Vision Of His Sister's Face

Ghostly face

A ghostly tale today from the archives, regarding J.L. Sanborn, who was a representative of a large tobacco house. This is his story.

I was in Louisville several weeks last summer, as business was rather dull, and I was engaged in doing some work about the store. Each night I would go out to Bardstown and spend the night with my mother.

My sister, Emma, two years before, had married a man from Bowling Green, and had gone there to live. Our house was an old-fashioned one, with a broad piazza in front, and this in summer was covered with vines. In one corner of the porch was a hammock which slung there every summer, and in which my sister was extremely fond of lying before she retired for the night.

The evening of which I speak I reached home rather late. Mother had taken a bad cold, and after I had eaten my supper I left her inside and went out on the piazza to smoke a cigar before going to bed. The moon was shining brightly, and some of its light entered through a broken part in the lattice on which the vines clambered.

As I stepped out on the piazza and started toward the hammock I stopped in amazement, for as plainly as I have ever seen anything, I saw my sister lying on the hammock with her face turned partly away from me. I stopped and stared but it was so plain I could not be mistaken.

I waited about a minute, and then approached the hammock. The apparition slowly melted away, and I found out that what I thought was a face was a part of the moonlight.

Saying nothing I went inside and told mother I had dropped something on the hammock. She went out to find it and saw the same thing which I had. She came back trembling all over.

We were prepared for the worst, and next morning we heard that Emma had died the night before. She was killed in a runaway accident about the time we had seen the apparition.

The Dressmaking Coincidence

Dressmaking cartoon

In some ways, today's post is similar to my previous post, as it illustrates how 'things' you wish for can come about very quickly.

For years my wife did dressmaking from home and was always very busy. Nowadays she only does occasional bits and pieces for friends - it's more of a social thing than anything else.

Anyway, on the day I am writing this, it's blowing a gale outside, the rain is in gusts and it's not a very good start, weather wise, to the morning.

Karin said, "I could do with a small dressmaking project on a day like this."

Within seconds the phone rang. It was one of her friends wanting some dressmaking done - just a small job. It was like magic!

So that's her settled for the afternoon: cups of tea and dressmaking.

But isn't it strange how such things happen, as also with the teapots yesterday? Precognition? Telepathy? Coincidence? Synchronicity?

He Dreamt His Friend Had Been Hanged

Precognition or Telepathy

A story today about - well, I'm not sure. Precognition perhaps or telepathy or prophecy ... well I'll leave that for you to decide.

A writer dreamed that a well known London stage manager, a close friend, came to him with his neck bandaged and an expression of extreme agony on his face. He pointed to his bandaged neck and tried to speak, but failed.

Then the writer woke up, and strongly impressed by the vividness of his dream, related it in the morning to his brother saying, "It gave me the impression that S**** had been hanged."

During the morning he went to his friend's house, and was told that he had been in bed for two days. It appeared that while at a rehearsal he had strained his neck, and had been in great pain ever since. This was striking enough but there was more to come ...

Afterwards he said to S****'s wife: "You know I hurried round because I had a dream that S**** has been hanged."

"That's most extraordinary," was her reply, "because the doctor said he very nearly dislocated his neck in exactly the same manner that occurs when people are hanged."

The Paul Lynde Coincidence Or Precognition

Payl Lynde coincidence

Paul Lynde isn't someone I had previously heard of, but I understand he was an an American comedian and character actor. The following coincidence was passed on to me from a reader relating to Lynde. It does seem, though, to be more of a case of precognition. Anyway, in his own words:

"Whenever I go to New York and I'm walking along Fifth Avenue I will see someone I knew when I lived there, but as soon as I run up and say hello, I'll find myself quickly apologising: case of mistaken identity. And always the physical resemblance is uncanny.

But - and this is the curious thing - the very next person I'll see will be the one I thought I knew seconds before.

This happens to me every time I have been to New York - that is, if I'm on Fifth Avenue."

It appears that the story was published in the Bangor Daily News prior to Lynde's death. So is this perhaps a case of precognition or coincidence?

Mysterious Dream Of The Sea Came True

Mysterious tales of the sea

Mysterious tales of the sea have been told over the years. The Rev R.B Elrington told, one such story, where dreams sadly came true.

"A woman parishioner of mine, whose husband was a fisherman, at that time on the sea, dreamt one night in a terribly vivid fashion that his little craft had been cut in two by the towering steel bows of a great liner.

Her eldest son was with the husband, and as she woke she screamed out, 'Oh, save my boy, my boy!'

This was remarkable enough, considering the sequel, but almost at the very moment the poor woman was in her distress, yet still asleep, another son was pounding on her door, half asleep and half awake and crying, 'Oh, mother, where is father?' The terrified woman now rose and let the boy in.

He was crying. He told her he had distinctly heard his father's heavy tread coming up the stairs and his ponderous kick with sea boots against the door, as had been his manner when returning abruptly from a long cruise.

Next morning the alarmed mother and wife told all the neighbours, and before the day was out the dreadful news came that every detail of her dream was true.

The little trawling lugger had been run into by a coasting liner, nearly cut in two and sunk with all hands, including her husband and son."

Precognition: Her Son Saw Into The Future

Child precognition

The following story from Mary: is it a case of precognition or something else?

I can remember reading somewhere that children can be psychic. I never really thought further about this until my son was born. At times he appears to see and know things beyond his age or knowledge. I'll give you an example, it's one that shook me up.

Jake was home from nursery (he's just 4) as he hadn't been feeling too well. I was doing some housework and he said to me, "Mummy, tell me about the car crash we were in. It was when a red car crashed into us and I was in the front seat."

I told him I'd never had a car accident. He said no more about this and went back to playing with his Lego.

Later that day I remembered that I needed some bread for my husband, for the next days lunch sandwiches.

I called to Jake that we had to go out in the car and strapped him into his car seat in the front passenger position, so we could go to the local shop. I hadn't gone far when a car came out of a side road without stopping and collided with the side of our car. Nobody was hurt.

I later realised that the other car in the collision was red. It was as if Jake had known about the crash happening about four hours before it happened. Or was it a coincidence?

A Warning Sent To Him By His Deceased Cousin

Message from the spirit world

An interesting story follows which some may find hard to believe, but it is from a no nonsense serving police officer. It's about a warning received from the spirit world.

"My husband and I are both police officers. He is the most pragmatic, realistic man you could meet.

In July last year, he came in from his shift after midnight and put his car keys on the bedside cabinet. At 3am the keys flew across the room, waking us both, and I accused him of swiping them with his hand. He said that it wasn't him, and that was that.

We were flying to London later that day. As I was driving to the airport, he kept telling me to watch my speed, mind that car, and was generally irritating. Then he said, "We are going to be in a car crash today." At the airport I gloated that I'd managed to get us there in one piece.

We landed at Heathrow at 5pm and got picked up by a friend. As I got into the middle of the back seat, I couldn't find the belt buckle so I wasn't going to bother. My husband insisted I dig it out and gave me 'The Glare'.

Five minutes later I shouted: "That guy hasn't seen us!" as another vehicle sped across the lanes.

The impact was fairly substantial. I dislocated my  neck and pulled the crucial ligament in my left knee. My husband fractured his sternum and three ribs. The Fire Brigade said that if I hadn't been wearing my seat belt, I would have been out through the windscreen

Later on in A&E, I asked my husband how he had known what would happen.

He told me that his recently deceased cousin, Shane, had thrown the keys, and that he was there with their grandmother. They had told him not to go to London as he would be in terrible pain, When I asked why he had still gone. He said that if he hadn't, then I wouldn't have worn a seat belt and would probably have been killed.

If anyone else but my husband had come out with this story, then I would have laughed at it."

Clairvoyant Predicted Her Own Imminent Death

Nell St. John Montague clairvoyant

Nell St. John Montague was one of London's best known society clairvoyants in the 1940s. She is said to have made many accurate predictions. Friends and associates therefore become concerned when she revealed what would be her own imminent death.

She told them, "I saw a fiery streak. Then a red mist spread over everything ..."

As she explained, her long experience had taught her that red mists always meant one thing: "Blood - a violent death." The "fiery streak" however remained a mystery even to her.

A few weeks following her prediction a Nazi buzz bomb (this was during World War 2) struck her London Home. This answered the question as to what the 'fiery streak' actually was. She had accurately predicted her death.

Prior to her death illustrious clients included the former Queen Victoria of Spain and Lady Clarisbrook - whose husband was a brother of Britain's Queen at the time. Victoria's first consultation with Miss Montague was one she wouldn't forget.

She warned Victoria that her wedding day would be the occasion of a number of violent deaths. The prediction was stunningly fulfilled.

As the bridal party drove away from the church a bouquet containing a bomb, was tossed at the royal carriage. Both the King and Queen escaped injury, but 24 other people were killed and 80 were wounded.

It is also reported that someone handed her an example of Hitler's handwriting. She, not knowing whose it was, said, "Whoever wrote that is as mad as a hatter."

There are many other predictions that proved accurate. In 1944 she forecast that Lord Louis Mountbatten "... will some day find a watery grave." This was shown in various newspapers in November of 1944.

The prediction took a long time to materialise, but in 1979 Lord Mountbatten went lobster potting in a wooden boat, moored in the harbour at Mullaghmore. An IRA member slipped into the boat and planted a radio-controlled bomb. Just a few hundred yards from the shore the bomb was detonated. Mountbatten was killed.

Some people do appear to have 'the gift'.

The X-Rays That Helped Him See His Father's Death

Roentgen X-ray machine
The Roentgen or Röntgen X-ray machine
Here's a story I found interesting - yes, it's old, but perhaps timeless.

Back in 1901 a pauper hearing was scheduled in Augusta, but the man concerned, named as W.H Davis, thought they would commit him to the insane asylum. So, perhaps wisely, he absconded.

Mr Davis had been boarding at the Adams House in Cony Street. The owner got very concerned one night at Davis's behaviour, and wanted his insane boarder removed. The police were called and were told that he had become light-headed,

The police decided to take him away to the City Building where they locked him up in a cell and left him to his own reflections till morning.

Morning came and they questioned him as to why he was disturbing the peace at the boarding house.

"Why," said he, in a most matter-of-fact manner, "my father died last night at twelve-o-clock, and I had to make his last minutes easier."

The police thought this was simply the ravings of a man out of control. They handed Davis over to the overseer of the poor who made made enquiries about his past life.

His previous life was traced to being at Mattawamkeag. Communications were made and they then discovered that Davis's father had lived in the town of Winn.

Remarkably, the father had died on the stroke of midnight while his son was in Augusta and lost his mental balance and claimed that he was up making his father's last hours easier.

The officials were amazed but decided this was only a coincidence - one of those combinations of circumstances and insanity.

But I have found more to the story ...

Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen
Wilhem C Röntgen
"When Davis was asked how he knew that his father was dead, he said it was communicated to him by way of the X-ray process.

He then went on and detailed how he had been taking the treatment for a long time and had been greatly benefited. He told with great minuteness how the electric currents felt and what their effect was on his system.

So much in earnest was the prisoner that the police called in a local physician that he might hear the recital. The physician listened attentively and said at the conclusion that it was remarkable, in that Davis had exactly described the sensation and working of the subtle rays from the Roentgen machine." Source: Lewiston Evening Journal September 13, 1901.

So what was it? Telepathy? Spirit communication? And how does the Roentgen machine fit into the story? X-rays were said to have been discovered by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, a German physicist, on November 8, 1895.

The Miracle Of Being Rescued From The Pacific Ocean

Small Pacific island

A true coincidence story today, but is it simply coincidence? Much more could be involved, dependent on beliefs.

One night during the war in the Pacific, an American bomber piloted by Major Allen Lindberg of Westfields NJ, was returning to its base in Australia when one of the four engines conked out. The huge plane began a slow, gentle dive toward the sea, 20,000 feet below. Shortly before dawn, it crashed.

The nine crew members scrambled into two rubber life rafts, but had no time to provide themselves with either food or fresh water.

When daylight came, the plane was gone, and the two rubber boats, dangerously overloaded, floated idly on the surface of the sea.

According to the navigator, the nearest land was hundreds of miles away. They had no oars, so they paddled with their hands - until sharks appeared. Then they gave up and just drifted.

They drifted all that day and all that night. The next morning the sea was still empty as ever, and the tropic sun beat down with unmitogated fury. Their lips were so badly cracked and their tongues so swollen from thirst they could barely speak.

But late on the second afternoon, an incredible sight: a little palm-fringed island lay directly ahead of them! One of the hundreds of invisible ocean currents that flow like rivers through the sea had carried them right to the shore of the island. Three native outrigger canoes came out to meet them, towed them ashore, and gave them food and water

Two weeks later, the nine men were picked up by a patrol plane and returned to their base in Australia.

By pure coincidene, their plane had crashed right in the middle of an ocean current. By coincidence that current flowed right past the island. But that island was uninhabited. The natives who rescued them lived on another island, over a hundred miles away. While out fishing, they had felt a sudden impulse to visit this particular island - a thing they hadn't done in years. They had arrived only a few hours before the current bore the two rafts virtually into their arms.

Coincidence? Synchronicity? Or maybe some other power entirely. Who knows?

Saved From Smallpox By A Precognition

1918 NYC street traders
NYC Street Traders 1918
I'm stepping back in time with this woman's strange story. It's a mixture of themes: a dream, coincidence, a warning, precognition and probably other categories as well.

In a dream one night it seemed that I awoke and found myself lying on a mattress placed on the floor of a room entirely devoid of furniture. In my dream I felt considerable surprise at finding myself in such situation, and I looked about in dismay and alarm. Upon trying to move I found to my horror that I was weak and sick, and I fell back on the pillow exhausted and depressed.

Just then the door of the room opened and a man entered. He was extraordinarily tall and was very dark and thin. Instinctively I felt that he was my doctor. I asked him where I was and what was wrong. Slowly and solemnly he answered, "You have smallpox."

At this juncture I awoke horrified and agitated. All day my dream stood out with frightful vividness in my mind. At length in the hope of relieving myself of its unpleasantness I related it to several of my friends. Without exception they earnestly advised me to be vaccinated at once, and I did so.

A few days later I was in New York city. As I walked along I saw many fruit vendors with quantities of fine looking white grapes. The fruit was so tempting that I stopped before one of the carts and asked the young fellow in charge of it to weigh two pounds for me. As he was waiting on me I saw him cast a furtive glance behind him, then despite my request that he give me the grapes at once, he seized the handle of his cart and with most of his fellow merchants trundled rapidly away.

I looked in the opposite direction and saw a man, evidently a city official who was ordering the remaining fruit vendors to move on. He was coming in my direction and as I was somewhat incensed at the summary departure of the vendor before he could sell me the grapes I wanted, I decided to wait and give the cause of the trouble a piece of my mind.

On looking up to address him I was startled to find myself face to face with the living counterpart of the physician who in my dream had informed me that I had smallpox. Recovering my self possession as best I could, I said, "Will you kindly tell me why these fruit men are so persecuted? Instead of idling their time away in saloons or on park benches they try to to earn a living by selling fruit. I think it is entirely commendable. Why are they not allowed to conduct their business in peace?"

"All this sounds very well," replied the man, "but there is another side to this question. These people are poor and as a matter of economy live very closely, several families sometimes occupying a single room. Not long ago in one of the habitations I saw on a bed of one of their women suffering with a contagious disease. Under the bed was a stock of fruit which one of the men took out on to the street the following day to sell. At present we are obliged to watch these people carefully in order to prevent a general spread of this disease, but," - and he squarely looked at me - "if you do not mind having smallpox I see no reason why you should be prevented from patronising the fruit vendors all you please."

For several minutes we stood there, and neither of us said a word. Then the dark man walked off in one direction and I in another. When I had gone a short distance something prompted me to look around. I did so and was startled to see the man of my dreams looking thoughtfully at me. "He has had a dream of me and recognises me as I did him."

Whether or not such was the case I have never learned but I do know that so far I have escaped smallpox. Was my dream a warning, I wonder, or was it merely a dream, and was my meeting the tall, dark, thin man nothing more than a coincidence." Source: The Carroll Herald - Apr 27, 1916

The Two Warning Or Precognitive Dreams

Warning when asleep

I've had a couple of dreams recently that turned out to be ... well, I suppose you'd call them warnings. As if someone was saying, "You'd better pay attention to this."

The first was on the night before we went on a holiday to Tenerife. We went to bed at the normal time, knowing that our flight wasn't until 3pm. So we had plenty of time, even though it takes virtually 3 hours to get to the airport at Bristol,

During the night, at about 2 o'clock, I woke. It was as if someone was saying I'd got the flight time wrong, "What me?" I thought, "Surely not, I'm so careful with this sort of thing."

But the feeling was strong enough to get me out of bed and look at the flight paperwork.

Yes, I had got it wrong. The flight was at 1pm not 3pm.

My rummaging about woke Karin, she said, "What on earth are you doing?" I told her the news and how we had to alter our plans.

Thanks to the dream warning we arrived in plenty of time for our flight.

The second dream was the night before last. Thinking about it perhaps it's more precognitive than a warning.

Again I woke up during the night. This time someone was saying there was a problem with my blog. "You won't be able to log into it," said ... I don't actually know if someone/thing said it or if it was just in my head. But either way it unsettled me.

First thing in the morning I had an email from Google stating:

"Your account is currently in a suspended state, meaning that you can not use the service. Log in to admin.google.com and follow the instructions to fix the suspension issues."

Suspended!!! What on earth for!!!

I was none too happy, especially when I clicked on the link (I knew it wasn't spam by the way) and couldn't get into Google admin. "What the ****!"

The email also stated:

"We believe that your account is a business account, which includes corporations, affiliates, sole traders, self-employed merchants or professionals, and partnerships."

I do earn a few pounds from Google ads on this blog, but hardly a fortune. It just helps to cover my Internet and phone connections.

Anyway, I still couldn't get into Google admin so I did a Google search. It appears that other bloggers, going back to 2012 have had this problem. To cut it short, I eventually found a (complicated) way to access the pages I needed.

That's it! Two dreams where I received messages. I must try and keep a Dream Diary, perhaps I'm missing a lot of other stuff! Who knows.

P.S. The image at the top of this post is for illustrative purposes only. I do not wear a nightcap in bed, neither do I snore or sleep with my mouth open ...

Did She Foresee Her Own Death

Christopher Booker's sister, Serena, was murdered in horrible circumstance some thirty years ago in Thailand, but the question remains; Did she foresee her own death?

Let's look at some of the signs:

Serena
Firstly, Following her tragic death the family had to notify her friends. To quote Christopher: "As we rang round my sister's wide circle of friends, we were amazed to learn how many of them she had visited in her last days in England, almost as if she knew she might be seeing them for the last time."

Secondly. Serena had left a four page document in the desk of her London flat. This began, "If anything should happen to me when I am in Thailand ..." It went on to set out who should inherit her various belongings.

The document also stated that she did not wish to be buried. She wrote, "Just put my body on a bonfire."

Her request became a reality with the help of the British vice-consul in Bangkok. He arranged for her body to be burned by Buddhist monks in the courtyard of a Bangkok monastery, Christopher has said that this was, "exactly as she would have wished."

Thirdly. Still in England, but at the moment of her cremation, Christopher went to his local church He tells of how beforehand he, "... pulled from his shelves the poetry book T.S. Elliot. Opening at random, my eyes lighted on his poem Little Gidding"

"And all shall be well and
All manner of things shall be well
When the tongues of flame are in-folded
Into the crowned knot of fire
And the fire and the rose are one."

The vice-consul had arranged for a bunch of roses to be on the funeral pyre.

This is where more synchronicity comes more into play.

Serena, in life, had admired the work of the glass engraver Laurence Whistler. The friends and family of Serena wondered if they would be able to persuade Whistler to do a memorial window for her.

Serena had met Whistler and when the family contacted him he replied: "Ever since I heard the awful news, I have been thinking of exactly that. In fact, I have already begun to sketch out what I have in mind."

Whistler's design included a red rose but more remarkably, around the window he had, quite independently, chosen to inscribe those same lines from Little Gidding, ending 'the fire and the rose are one.'

The window was completed and finally placed in Salisbury Cathedral.

Serena's ashes were scattered exactly as per her written document. Some were to be thrown in the river Danube near to Vienna where she had worked. Family and friends climbed to the summit of the Vienna Woods, looking down on the vista below. As the last of the ashes were released a roe deer gracefully leapt down the steep hill below, until it disappeared,

"It was like a last farewell."

Often it does seem as if life is mapped out in advance.

Telepathy And Precognition Stimulated In Tenerife

Tenerife
Part of the hotel pool areas
Sometimes, such as when you are on a holiday, it appears that the mind has a chance to tick over properly - and this can bring about some surprising results. The following small examples, from my Tenerife trip, are hardly world shattering but illustrate what I mean.

A really simple one first. We had been out for most of the day and went back to out hotel room. I decided I wanted to go for a swim in one of the pools. Karin didn't fancy this and said she'd prefer to have a shower and then read her book on the balcony. I set off down to the pool on my own.

I was walking through the hotel gardens and crossed one of the swimming pools via a bridge. At that moment I had a feeling I should turn round. I did so, glanced up, and saw Karin waving from the balcony on the eighth floor.

So who sent to the message to whom?

Sunset over Gomera, Canary Islands
Sunset Tenerife looking towards Gomera Island
A second illustration was again in our hotel. There was a large outside area adjoining one of the bars that overlooked the sea and also Gomera island. It was evening and the sun was setting.

Karin asked if I was going to try and take photos of the sunset. As I was about to answer a young woman passed by us wearing a very short skirt. Now I know it's not PC, or a proper thing to say nowadays, but I remarked to Karin that I would prefer to take a photo of the young woman. She just laughed and replied, "As if you'd be so lucky!"

We went inside bar to get a couple of glasses of wine and then I left Karin sitting at one of the tables while I attempted to take a photo of the sunset and Gomera.

I was clicking away, minding my own business, when a voice said in broken English, "Would you take a photo of me please." Yes, it was the very same young woman in the short skirt! My wish had come true. She handed me her phone and I snapped a couple of photos of her. Then she said, "And one with my boyfriend please," who was now walking towards us. Again I willingly obliged.

When I got back to Karin she laughed and said, "You got to take her photo then!"

So why was my throw-away comment about taking her photo answered?

Tenerife hotel reception
Part of hotel reception area
Now the third example. It was late and we were going up to our hotel room. The red wine must have had an effect because I joked to Karin that she couldn't come into my room as the key card wasn't working. She told me to stop messing about and just open the door. I put the card into the slot but the card wouldn't work - the door wouldn't open!

Karin tried - to prove to herself that I wasn't 'messing about' - and sure enough the key card wasn't working. I had to take the lift down to reception to get the card sorted. Somehow when they programmed the card they had entered the wrong expiry date.

So how did I 'know' the card wouldn't work when it always had before?

I think we have certain 'powers' like, say, telepathy or precognition, but we have forgotten how to use them. Perhaps something like a holiday, or a change of scenery increases our senses, once we are away from the everyday routine. The 'faculty X', which Colin Wilson wrote about, is within us all but gets atrophied by our way of life. But think of the possibilities if we were willing to develop these abilities. It would change our lives.

The Sex Olympics Looks To The Future

The Year Of The Sex Olympics

A 1968 BBC television play, The Year Of The Sex Olympics, has been dragged into the news recently as allegations have been made against one of the main actors.

After 46 years I'm not sure what relevance these allegations have today, especially as the actor concerned is dead. But what is interesting is what The Year Of The Sex Olympics was all about. You could say, it gave people a taste of today, or our near future, way back in the 1960s.

The Daily Mail described the play: "It depicted a dystopian world where the media is controlled by an elite few who keep the masses docile by pumping out pornography and reality TV shows." Now that must ring a bell!

If we look at the plot there is much more that is relevant to today.

The Year Of The Sex Olympics (TYOTSO) is set in a future, society which is divided between 'low-drives' that equate with the labouring classes and the 'hi-drives' who control the government and media. There's another ring of the bell here - the UK political parties are run by these high-drives today - wealthy, without any experience of the 'real' world, expensively educated and have never had a 'proper' job. Cameron, Osborne, Milliband, Clegg from the Conservatives, Labour and Liberal Parties fit this description. So it doesn't matter too much who we vote for (other than perhaps UKIP!)

Milliband, Cameron, Clegg

In the play the hi-drives are concerned about overpopulation. Today's Daily Mail (June 28, 2014) heads one story, "Another boat packed with migrants heads for Europe as it's revealed Britain's population has grown by 5 million in 12 years. Now a historian delivers a chilling warning ... This human tide will be the great crisis of the century." Strong stuff!

But going back to TYOTSO they decide on a way to keep the lower classes - the low drives - docile by serving them an endless diet of the lowest common denominator television programmes: pornography and then finally reality shows. That sounds familar!

Their first reality show is where a couple are stranded on a bleak island, without any technology, and have their efforts to survive filmed twenty four hours a day. To spice things up they introduce a psychopath to the island and are amazed when the television audience reacts with laughter when slaughter takes place. The show is thought to be a triumph.

The BBC must have remembered this when they introduced Castaway to us UK viewers in 2000 - a show in which members of the public volunteered to live on an inhospitable island deprived of everyday luxuries normally available to society. The USA had Survivor the same year. And, of course, Big Brother then followed and then a myriad of other reality shows.

Similarly, the dumbing down, sexing up and sheer predominance of television were predicted by the play.

Scene from The Year Of The Sex Olympics
Scene from The Year Of The Sex Olympics
The writer of The Year Of The Sex Olympics, Nigel Kneale, is quoted as saying that he got the idea for the plot from the "...worldwide dread of populations exploding out of all control" leading him to devise a world where pornography hooks the population "on a substitute for sex rather than the real thing and so keeping the population down."

Kneale also said, "I thought people in those conditions would have very, very, reduced language - they wouldn't be really a verbal society any more, and I think we're heading towards that. Television is mainly responsible for it, the fact that people are now conditioned to image. The pictures they see on television screens more and more dominate their thinking, as far as people do a lot of thinking, and if you had a verbally reduced society, you would get the kind of language - possibly - that you did get in the play".

Often, when we consider what is placed before us as television entertainment, it's as if we know a lot of it is rubbish but somehow get hooked on the dross, as we do with junk food and a general lethargy. Maybe it's time to raise our standards and wake up, before it's too late.
