Look Out! Look Out! Karma Is Coming to To Get You!

Karma

Not sure where I'm going with this post but I have been thinking a lot about karma recently. At the present time it's something I believe in, as it answers so many questions. Things such as: Why are some people lucky and others unlucky? Why do some people have hardship and others are born with the proverbial silver spoon in their mouth? And so on.

There appears to be a lot of injustices in the world, but what if there is a reason for this rather than it simply being God's will - or the luck of the draw, if you don't believe in any supreme power.

A lot of people write off karma but then go on to use expressions like: what comes around goes around; it's what he/she deserved; tit for tat: an eye for an eye, measure for measure ... and so on.

'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth' comes from the Bible, but it doesn't - in my opinion - suggest that we seek revenge in a similar fashion to what has been done to us. It's a reference to karma. It can never be right to seek revenge because we would surely be creating more bad karma for ourselves. The Bible clarifies this in Matthew 5:38-39 (if you are a Bible believer, that is):

"Ye have heard that that it hath been said: An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosovever shall smite thee on they right cheek, turn to him the other also."

So what is Karma? Here's Wikipedia's version:

"Karma means action, work or deed; it also refers to the principle of causality where intent and actions of an individual influence the future of that individual. Good intent and good deed contribute to good karma and future happiness, while bad intent and bad deed contribute to bad karma and future suffering. Karma is closely associated with the idea of rebirth in some schools of Asian religions. In these schools, karma in the present affects one's future in the current life, as well as the nature and quality of future lives."

smiley face
As a humour break here's what Mahatma Gandhi said about karma:
"An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind."

Martin Luther King, Jr said something similar:
"That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing."

While on the theme of what others have said I'll move on to other quotes from various religions.

Now as a man is like this or like that,
according as he acts and according as he behaves, so will he be;
a man of good acts will become good, a man of bad acts, bad;
he becomes pure by pure deeds, bad by bad deeds;

And here they say that a person consists of desires,

and as is his desire, so is his will;
and as is his will, so is his deed;
and whatever deed he does, that he will reap.

~ Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, 7th Century BC

Happiness comes due to good actions, suffering results from evil actions.
By actions, all things are obtained, by inaction, nothing whatsoever is enjoyed.
If one's action bore no fruit, then everything would be of no avail,
If the world worked from fate alone, it would be neutralized.

~ Mahabharata (Hinduism)

As a man himself sows, so he himself reaps; no man inherits the good or evil act of another man. The fruit is of the same quality as the action.

~ Mahabharata

And so it goes on, even in Wicca they have the Rule of Three, which states that whatever energy a person puts out into the world, be it positive or negative, will be returned to that person three times.

Okay, I've rambled on long enough for one post, but if you want some good karma try what the Dalai Lama suggests on   20 Ways to Get Good Karma

Where Do We Go Next To Develop God's Internal Laws?

Where do we go next?

I found it interesting that the Pope now agrees with science that the universe was born in a cosmic explosion (Big Bang) some 13.7 billion years ago, which has been expanding since that time.

This is, of course, somewhat different to the Bible's words, but the Catholic Church no longer teaches creationism - the belief that God created the world in six days - and says that the account in the book of Genesis is an allegory for the way God created the world.

An allegory, according to the dictionary, is a story, poem, or picture which can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one.

The Pope said that the Big Bang ...

"... doesn't contradict the intervention of a divine Creator, but demands it. The beginning of the world was not 'the work of chaos' but part of a divine plan by the Creator.

Evolution in nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation, because evolution requires the creation of beings that evolve. God should not be regarded as some sort of 'magician', waving a magic wand. When we read about creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so. He created human beings and let them develop according to the internal laws that He gave to each one so they would reach fulfilment."

I would just question one thing: If man is created so that we can develop according to internal laws, we as individuals can't do this in one life time. We only have to look around us to see this. So, assuming man is immortal, what happens after our present life is over? Do we come back again - reincarnation - or do we learn the next lessons somewhere else?

Just wondering out loud.

The Experience Of Awakening The Soul And Immortality

Awakening of the Soul

Some call it an awakening while others may define it as super-consciousness. Either way it is something akin to the Paul on the road to Damascus moment. It's as if all knowledge is known, a time of enlightenment that comes along often without any warning.

In Paul's case the Bible describes it thus (Acts 9:3–9)

"As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, 'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?'

'Who are you, Lord?' Saul asked.

'I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,' he replied. 'Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.'

The men travelling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything." [Before his conversion, Paul, was known as Saul].

Someone I worked with once described his awakening as if someone had touched him on the shoulder and he was aware of what he should do with his life, in what he described as a flash of light occurrence - the road became suddenly bright and he was aware of everything at once and for an instant seemed to know everything. The light dimmed and he became 'him' again but for the fact that he now knew which path in life he should take and why.

Many people have described their awakening or Paul moment. Dr Douglas Baker writes:

"Whilst lying in a semi-recumbent condition after meditation, my whole body suddenly jerked into a condition of catalepsy and while riveted in this rigid state, a powerful force was thrust through me from head to foot. It was as if I had been catapulted into the dynamo of the universe. It resulted in the production of three principal manifestations which have been repeated again and again in various intensity ever since. I was initially aware of looking through into a new world even though fully conscious

The perception of a new dimension eventually produced in me the experience of inner radiance, a light that made the light of the sun as nothing compared to it. Accompanying that phenomenon was a feeling of ecstasy as I had never known before. And paralleling both new nouemena there was an accompanying sense of eternity. At first I was terrified that the experience would not return, but it did and has been mine ever since."

I've noticed that people often refer to a theme of eternity. Alfred, Lord Tennyson experienced this many times. This is his description:

"A kind of walking trance I have frequently had, quite up from boyhood, when I have been all alone. This has often come upon me through repeating my own name to myself silently till, all at once, as it were, out of the intensity of the consciousness of individuality, the individuality itself seemed to dissolve and fade away into boundless being; the surest of surest, the weirdest of the weirdest, utterly beyond words, where death was an almost laughable impossibility."

From what I have read it's as if the knowledge is within us all and is waiting to be remembered. It's a reminder that we are spiritual beings. In the Expansion of Awareness by Arthur Osborn he writes: "... I always knew it - it is remembering an old thought - there is no death ..."

If we could unlock the door to awakening our fears would disappear and we would realise the truth about ourselves. Some will describe this as a union with the Christ principle but other religions have their own 'unions'. In the Upanishads it is written "Thou art That; That which is the finest essence - this whole world has that as its soul; That is Reality; That is Atman." So their union is with the Atman, the Higher Self within man, which is the same as the Christ principle in Christianity.

But whatever our beliefs there can only be one truth.

Did The God Of The Old Testament Arrive In A Spaceship?

God in a spaceship

Mmmm, now I wonder if, in the Old Testament, instead of the word God we should use The Visitors - visitors from another planet that is.

So instead of: 'And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness ...' It would  be 'The Visitors said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness ...'.

Think I must have been reading too much David Icke or something. Or even Uri Geller. Before I went on holiday I read his 1974 bography, with the snappy title of 'Uri'.

It seems that Uri and his side-kick Andrija Puharich often had chats with aliens from - not really sure where they came from, but here's what they told the aforementioned:

Oak of Mamre in Hebron
"We first interfered with the human race twenty thousand years ago. We came on a planned mission from our own solar galaxy, and our first landing place on Earth was at the place you were at in Israel, at the Oak of Mamre in Hebron [Heaven ?] where Abraham met us. That is the origin of the legend of the ladder to the Gods, because they saw us come out of our craft on a ladder device.

However, we found traces of the presence of other visitors from other spaces who had been on Earth millions of years earlier. But we found man in much the same animal condition that you see in him today."

Animal condition - us Earthlings? How dare they ... mind you, if you think about it ...

So did or do those Aliens ever help us? Well it seems they do, but not too frequently.

"We give advice actually about once every six thousand years. The last time that we did this was six thousand years ago to the Egyptians.

Our advice is usually given gently and is not too strong, and we do it more for our own purpose than for man's benefit."

But one bit of good news from them is that we do have souls - did we ever doubt it? And what is the nature of soul?

"It inhabits different worlds at different times in is existence. When the physical body dies, it goes with all of its being to its own world. There it carries on with the next phase of its existence.

It may go on to other spaces, or it may even return to an Earth physical body for another round of experience.

There are higher powers that divide these people (souls), and that decide where they shall go. The purpose of existence is to move towards God. However, no one can know God. We ourselves can only know God by reaching him as an idea - not physically."

But, before you ask, there are other visitors besides the ones Uri communicated with.

"Most of these reports by humans [about UFOs and aliens] are due to hallucinations and aberrations. But some of our units have landed. But most of the reported landings have been other visitors from space - some of whom we do not see, but which you can see. They are of different vibrations, different spaces, different velocities. We are the only ones who are mostly here. Others come and go."

Before we completely write off all of this alien visitors malarky as complete fiction, perhaps there is an element of truth - if we dare think a little, or maybe a lot differently, to the norm.

As for the Bible and UFOs, or Visitors from Space, there's the theory about Ezekiel: The Alien Abduction Of The Bible and much more besides.

Did The Old Testament Bible Copy From The Epic Of Gilgamesh?

Epic of Gilgamesh flood

The Epic of Gilgamesh is said to date back to the 18th Century BC and contains several parallels with the Bible. Some would say it is from this, that parts of the Old Testament was based. Let's look the story of Noah's flood for example.

In the Epic of Gligamesh mankind is returned to clay by the Gods - except for the hero Utnapishtim. He is told to build an ark, by Ea the god of wisdom, where each side measures 120 cubits, and for it to be sealed with pitch and bitumen. When built Utnapishtim, with his family and 'all the animals of the field' board the ark. The Earth is then deluged in seven days.

The ark drifts to Mount Nisir (today this is in Iraqi Kurdistan) and lodges on the mountain. Utnapishtim releases a dove, a swallow and a raven. When the raven fails to return, the ark is opened and the inhabitants are free to walk the Earth again - as for the rest of the population 'all the human beings (are) turned to clay'.

This is surely too similar to Genesis to be a coincidence.

Noah and the Ark

Genesis 6:14. 'Make thee an ark of gopher wood ... and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.' And in verse 15 God gives the measurements for the ark.

Genesis 6:18. '... thou shalt come into the ark, thou and thy sons and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.'

Genesis 6:19 'And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring onto the ark, to keep them alive with thee ...'

Genesis 8:4 Following the flood. 'And the ark rested ... upon the mountains of Arafat'.

Also in the Noah story he releases a dove and a raven.

But there are also other similar flood stories.

In Hindu texts, from the 8th century BC for example. Vishnu warns the first-created Manu and his wife, Sraddha, that he intends to destroy all wicked people, animals and plants with a flood. Manu is saved by building - yes, an ark.

In Greek mythology Zeus is offended by the cannibalism of the Pelasgian people and floods the Earth to wipe out mankind but ... Deucalion is given advance warning, so he builds an ark for himself and his wife Pyrrha - and the ark comes to rest on Mount Parnassus.

The Biblical story of Noah is also in the Koran, where he is considered a prophet. This time the ark ends up at Mount Judi.

All of these have the same theme: God punishes the wicked but a virtuous man and his family are saved by building an ark which, after the flood, comes to rest on a mountain.

It's up to us what we believe, but my old family Bible gives the date of the Noah flood as 2448 BC - whereas the Epic of Gilgamesh is dated the 18th Century BC.

Even With Jokes There Is Nothing New Under The Sun

There is nothing new under the sun

This following joke is supposedly very funny, It topped a poll after more than 100,000 people around the world cast their vote on 40,000 jokes. Here it is:

"A couple of New Jersey hunters are out in the woods when one of them falls to the ground. He doesn't seem to be breathing, his eyes are rolled back in his head. The other guy whips out his cell phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps to the operator: 'My friend is dead! What can I do?' The operator, in a calm soothing voice says: 'Just take it easy. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead.' There is a silence, then a shot is heard. The guy's voice comes back on the line. He says: 'OK, now what?'"

I have doubts that it is really the world's funniest joke, it's a matter of taste I suppose. But, even with jokes nothing is new.

A joke going back to the 1950s was very similar and was featured in a sketch for a BBC radio show called the Goon Show. It was written by the great Spike Milligan and featured Peter Sellers and Michael Bentine.

This is how that sketch went:

The Spike Milligan Sketch
Bentine: I just came in and found him lying on the carpet there
Sellers: Oh, is he dead?
Bentine: I think so
Sellers: Hadn't you better make sure?
Bentine: Alright. Just a minute ...
... sound of two gun shots
Bentine: He's dead.

It really does seem that in life there is nothing new under the sun. The Bible said as much in Ecclesiastes 1:9 - "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun."

Shakespeare agreed in his Sonnet 59

Sonnet 59
If there be nothing new, but that which is
Hath been before, how are our brains beguiled,
Which, labouring for invention, bear amiss
The second burden of a former child.
O, that record could with a backward look,
Even of five hundred courses of the sun.

If it's true that nothing is new, I wonder why we keep repeating the same mistakes, the same wars, the same conflicts, the same neglect, the same ... well everything. Will we ever learn? Perhaps history can give us the answers.

Perfect Peace

Perfect Peace Neustift Austria

As a Sunday Thought the following is from my cuttings file from around 30 years ago.

The writer, Dr K.M.P Mohamed Cassim, is the founder of the Perfect Peace Lodge in Sri Lanka and by 'coincidence' I came across an interview with her on the School of Metaphysics website.

"The mystical teachings of Jesus are fundamentally and essentially similar to the teachings of other great masters, saints and mystics.

The correct method of meditation is beautifully stated in the Bible as Be still and know that I am God, which means one should keep the mind undisturbed emotionally under all circumstances and maintain the profound state of Perfect Peace with full awareness of the Absolute Reality which alone exists eternally.

The process of divine healing is purely a spontaneous act which takes place quietly and sweetly when we are in deep silent meditation in tune with that Cosmic Consciousness of Divinity. The healing aspect of prayer can be conceived not by mere intellectual ability but through the communion with the Supreme Power which operates full of spiritual magnetism."

The Creation Of Many Adam And Eves

Adam and Eve Garden of Eden

Probably, like many readers, I have pondered how man came about. Was it Creationism? Evolution? Or one of the other myriad, often wacky, suggestions?

What puzzles me most is Adam of the Bible. Was he really the first man? And Eve really the first woman? If so, does this mean their children interbred? Incest?

A lot of questions! But then someone told me the meaning of the word adam in Hebrew - the Bible being originally written in Hebrew. I've also Googled this, and it seems pretty much agreed as to what adam means.

I'll take the Wikipedia entry as an example:

"Adam (Hebrew: אָדָם‎, Arabic: آدم‎) in Biblical (as well as modern) Hebrew is sometimes used as the personal name of an individual and at other times in a generic sense meaning mankind"

Other suggestions I read:

"Adam means essentially human being or humanity. Not man"

This makes the likes of Genesis 1:27 more understandable when it says: "So God created man in his own image, in the image of of God created he him; male and female created he them."

If you want to go down the creationism trail surely this says that God created them i.e. humanity. This wasn't a single creation of one man, followed by one woman. So there was no single Adam and Eve, but many.

This also makes sense of Genesis 4:16 where Cain - the son of Adam and Eve - dwelt in the Land of Nod and how in Genesis 4:17 "Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch." Cain could only have done this if more women were available?

In Genesis 5:2 this is confirmed when it states: "Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created."

Perhaps the lesson is that the Bible can be interpreted in various ways. It's intereting that this is accepted, for example, in the Bahá'í faith. `Abdu'l-Bahá writes in 'Some Answered Questions':

"Therefore, this story of Adam and Eve who ate from the tree, and their expulsion from Paradise, must be thought of simply as a symbol. It contains divine mysteries and universal meanings, and it is capable of marvelous explanations. Only those who are initiated into mysteries, and those who are near the Court of the All-Powerful, are aware of these secrets. Hence these verses of the Bible have numerous meanings." Could The Date Jesus Was Born Be Linked To 9/11

all in the stars

With Christmas fast approaching I was interested to read on Dixie's blog that some 'experts' believe that Jesus was actually born on September 11th, 3BC.

There has always been much debate as to when Jesus was actually born, but it was the September 11th bit that caught my eye more than the year.

September 11th is now remembered because of 9/11 when two hijacked aircraft crashed into the World Trade Center and a third smashed into The Pentagon. Nearly 3,000 people were killed.

Surely there can't be any significance between Jesus being born and 9/11, can there? Probably not but, for those into mystical style numbers, there are 111 days left to the year on September 11th.

Also the Ethiopian calendar usually starts on the September 11th.

But going back to Jesus being born on this date, according to the Associates for Scriptural Knowledge (ASK) this was the Jewish Day of Trumpets.

What is the significance of this Day of Trumpets in 3BC? According to ASK it was all in the stars. To quote them:

"Look at the celestial events that occurred around that Rosh ha-Shanah date of September 11th in 3 B.C.E. Exactly one month before (on August 12) the world would have witnessed the close conjunction of Jupiter (reckoned astrologically as the Father) and Venus (the Mother) when they were only .07 degrees from one another when they appeared as morning stars on the eastern horizon. This was a very close union. But then, nineteen days later (August 31), Venus came to within .36 degrees of Mercury in a very similar astronomical display.

Then, on September 11th, the New Moon occurred which represented the Jewish New Year. This happened when Jupiter (the King planet) was then approaching Regulus (the King star). And, on September 14, Jupiter and Regulus came to their first of three conjunctions in this extraordinary year. Then, over an eight month period, Jupiter made its 'crowning effect' over the King star Regulus."

Seemingly, quoting again, there could not have been a 'better astronomical testimony to the birth of the new messianic king from the Jewish point of view'

It is also said by some that the world, as per Genesis in the Bible, all started on, yes you've guessed, September 11th. Okay, on dodgy ground here as there are a myriad of theories as to when the world was formed. Some even say the Earth was formed 4.5 billion years ago ... now if that was on a September 11th I've no idea!

Moving on, Mahatma Gandhi coined the term 'Satyagraha' on September 11th, 1906. In his own worlds this means:

"I began to call the Indian movement Satyagraha, that is to say, the Force which is born of Truth and Love or non-violence ..."

It's strange where you can end up once you start writing but, whatever our opinion of dates and Jesus, the one thing that I retain in my mind is that He taught love and forgiveness. Add to that Gandhi's truth and non violence and we have a pretty good ideal to follow - whatever our beliefs.

Memories Of The Future

The hand of God

When I was about 14 or 15 I had this idea that all of us would eventually become Gods. We would each be given a planet to oversee with a population designed as we thought fit. I can also remember standing over a small ant nest and realising that, like God, I could wipe out a few of the ants or even most of the colony by simply stamping on them. This, in a way, was influenced by the old fashioned idea of God, where he could bring about terrible consequences if we did anything wrong - or even just on a whim.

When I was imagining these things it was way before computer games where such things are possible.

As I see it, in days gone by, there was a fear of God because it kept us all in line. This in many ways completely opposes the teachings of Jesus and love and forgiveness. The Old and New Testaments of the Bible do tend to contradict each other at times.

I feel that the Old Testament God may be a misunderstanding of the idea of karma, - whereas Jesus teaches about what we reap is what we have sown - a truer version of karma.

At times it is difficult to understand the unfairness of life, but problems are a means or opportunity to overcome. We maybe should think of our lives as being long term, and not just 70, 80 or 90 years. The idea of a resurrection being based on the actions of one short life, and the conditions we are born into, is unrealistic and would be unjust.

Resurrection surely must be an opportunity for us to start again and is part of a constant state of a surviving spirit, soul or whatever you may wish to call this. We assume and discard many bodies with the essence of life flowing from one on to another.

We therefore refine our future bodies and circumstances by the actions of our current lives here on Earth. Our lives are a spiral of continuity which we gradually ascend.

Something I read recently by RP Beesley was:

"The Spirit is the true self, this is our eternal body. That it will grow, expand in wisdom and knowledge, become strong resilient, courageous and deep in understanding is the purpose of it's being, thus to become builders, teachers, skilled artisans of creation.

As the Kingdoms grow other worlds are still in the making, so these souls and spirits help fashion and to dwell in these future realms - brave new worlds invested in the consciousness of God."

So maybe I was sort of on the right track when a young teenager after all!

The UFO Which Brought The Raelian Elohim To Earth

Elohim UFO an artists impression
Artists impression of UFO seen by Claude Vorilhon founder of Raelian Religion
I've been looking at various religions and beliefs recently and re-discovered the Raelian Religion, which has a link with UFOs and aliens. I had read about this years ago but felt it too much like Erich von Daniken's early works at that time.

So what is the Raelian's slant on religion?

It was founded by Claude Vorilhon a French journalist who claims to have encountered a UFO in 1973.

The UFO landed and he was told by the occupant that they had come to see him. He was taken aboard the craft for six days and messages were dictated to him. These explained how the Genesis in the Bible is an account of how the Elohim created life on Earth.

Elohim and UFO
Artists impression of Elohim and UFO as seen by Claude Vorilhon
Elohim means 'those who came from the sky' but was wrongly translated as God. Elohim is a plural and therefore refers to a multiplicity of extraterrestrial beings. In Genesis 1:26 it states 'Let us make man in our image and likeness'. The important word here being 'our'.

The Elohim divided the 'waters from the waters' with explosions thus creating the first continent. On this they created the animals, vegetation and other life forms. Finally they made man (initially an artificial life form) with use of their advanced knowledge of DNA.

One group of the extraterrestrial creators, called Nephilim in the Bible engaged is sexual relationships with the humans and produced a race of people with superior intelligence. Jesus was created by Mary having sexual union with one of the Elohim.

Claude Vorilhon in 1973
Claude Vorilhon in 1973
All well and good and in some ways strangely believable but what is Claude Vorilhon's role in all of this. He is known as Rael to his followers and it's his job to prepare humanity for the arrival of the Elohim on earth. It seems they will come in peace but must be received voluntarily by the human race. So a familiar theme here.

The Elohim purpose for coming to Earth will be to establish a new world government.

This government will only be made up of those whose intelligence is 50% higher than the human average.

To welcome the Elohim the Raelian Religion have to establish an Embassy, preferably in Jerusalem - this doesn't sound too easy to do, to say the least.  But once the Elohim arrive they will promote scientific and technological advancement, creating material prosperity and increased leisure for humans - so they will have an enhanced lifestyle.

There is one added bonus for their arrival. They will offer human beings the prospect of immortality. One snag: this will only be offered to those whose actions merit this. Again a familiar pattern.

There is more to the Raelians than this but that's a brief synopsis as I understand it. But one obvious question I wanted to know was: Who created the Elohim? This is the official answer:

"If we believed in God, we might ask, 'Who created God'. If we believed in evolution and the Big Bang we might ask, "Where did this matter and energy come from that created the big-bang?"

For the Elohim, it is the same - they were created by people coming from the sky as were their creators. It's an infinite cycle of life. One day scientists from earth will also go to another planet and populate it."

I found this answer interesting as it's something similar to what I had been wondering myself in my recent post: A How Did It All Begin Ramble.

Strange how questions get answered, but is this the right answer?

There are videos from The Raelian Movement here.

A How Did It All Begin Ramble

How did it all begin? The creation of the universe

So how did it all begin? The universe and us, that is. Some will say it was all an act of God, a God who is immortal.

Others tell us of the Big Bang. Though Brian Yanny PhD, a research scientist from Illinois, says the Bang may not have been Big at all! His words:

"Current evidence suggests that, far from being 'big', the whole, vast expanse of space and all the visible galaxies and stars originated in a dense sphere of glowing gas much smaller than a pea."

Yes, but, as I was always asking as a kid: Where did the dense sphere of gas come from? Though I used to ask about 'gases'.

As we know life there is a beginning and an end but only God is immortal, well so the Bible says:

1 Timothy 6:16 - "Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; who no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power ever lasting."

Okay! So those who say they have seen God must be telling porkies, if they believe in the Bible that is.

I've always felt that all of us, no matter how we actually started, will carry on for eternity but again the Bible disagrees, which must mean there is no Heaven or reincarnation.

Ecclesiastes 9:5 "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing ..."

Ecclesiastes 9:10 "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might, for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest."

So that's not too comforting, is it?

Going back to 'where did it all begin'. I suppose it's because we cannot accept that the beginnings came from nothing, even if pea sized, is why mankind began to believe in a God or Gods. It seemed and seems the only answer.

There has to be some sort of everlasting, immortal universal mind. But, as many have said, man also creates God in his own image - as has been the case right from the earliest of civilisations.

So how did it all begin? I'm not sure. Supposing it was by God, what was He doing prior to creating our universe 14 billion years ago? Was He creating other Universes? Or something completely different?

My gosh, there are a lot of questions and I don't think anyone really knows the answers.

Sorry, if today's post is a bit of a ramble. I was just putting a few thoughts together and had no idea where they would lead.

God Created Earth 6016 Years Ago

Click on images to make bigger
God created the Earth and the beginnings of mankind 6016 years ago. I can be precise because this is what my, very old, family Bible tells me.

As for Noah and the Ark, this all happened in 2349 BC, so that makes it 4361 years since the flood.

Okay, I personally don't see how this can be true but what got me thinking was a television programme I watched last night on creationism.

To quote Wikipedia: "Creationism is the religious belief that humanity, life, the Earth, and the universe are the creation of a supernatural being, most often referring to the Abrahamic God."

During the television programme a group of creationists, all Christian other than one Muslim, visited various experts, professors, and scientists who gave their 'proof' that the Earth is much older, and that mankind has developed because of evolution.

It was interesting that the creationists wouldn't budge from their beliefs, even when one professor wondered how Noah would have managed to get whales onto the ark. But actually I quite admire people who have such faith and have their beliefs sorted.

I read some of Genesis this morning from that old family Bible and one thing I'd forgotten was Genesis 1:26 "And God said, 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness ..."

Does this mean there is more than one God? But, of course, there are many anomalies in the Bible.

I've also often naively wondered why God created man (and woman) in the first instance.

Reincarnation Changes Us For Better Or For Worse

Mike Perry as a young boy - Michael

"But if there is such a thing as reincarnation then how come people can be so different from how they were in a previous life," asked someone I know.

I guess logically it may seem that if we do reincarnate we would be pretty much similar to how we left our last life. After all reincarnation is often used as an explanation as to why some children are exceptionally talented. Their soul / spirit or whatever carries over knowledge from previous lives. The likes of Mozart, a composer and musician at just five years old, would have learned how to play the violin and keyboard in a previous life.

If I'm truthful I'm not 100% sure what exactly happens following death - and I'm not convinced that very many do, no matter what they may claim. I do believe, however, that we live on and are eternal and that karma plays a role in our lives.

Reincarnation - if combined with karma - does explain why some people have problematic lives right from birth and others have the proverbial golden spoon. Wrongs and rights from previous lives are corrected in current lives - an 'eye for an eye' and all that.

"Yes, but this doesn't answer why a person in two following lives can be so different, does it?"

I'm not sure where it says that people are so different from life to life. But, if we think about it, we are actually many different people in a single life - and not just by way of appearance. Our thoughts and beliefs fluctuate throughout our life. Happenings come about to influence us. Some of these we reject while others we accept as true and so we adjust our beliefs and who we are.

The young boy at junior school (me in the photo) is different to the boy at senior school, to the young man, the married man, to the father and grandfather he became. Life happens: sorrows, happiness, mistakes, lessons, experiences continue to mould us into something slightly different.  It's the Law of Change in action.

So why shouldn't we also change and appear different from life to life.

I saw some statistics, admittedly from the 1990s, which found that 24% of Europeans believe in reincarnation and 33% in the UK. And according to a 2005 Gallup poll 20 percent of U.S adults believe in reincarnation.

There is an opinion that the Bible once contained the reincarnation belief, though many Christians will strongly disagree with this for obvious reasons. But the Bible has been amended going back to the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD. Some bits have been omitted - but again many Christians will disagree with this as well. It's interesting though that in another survey by the Pew Forum 24% of American Christians expressed a belief in reincarnation.

If we can believe in a God or a Supreme Power then why would we believe that He/She/It would allow such suffering in the world unless this could one day be corrected at some stage. Reincarnation with karma balances the books between good and evil and it also gives us the freedom to create our own and future lives for the better.

The Great Unknown Link Between God And Man

I have written previously about how How The Ancient Egyptians Sent Letters To The Dead and also how The Magic Of Our Ancestors Can Bring Us Success. On a similar theme I came across the following which was channelled by a medium and are said to be the words of a Dr Lascelles. It illustrates how our loved ones are with us and may also be able to help us with our problems.

I'll say first that I'm an 'undecided' about channelling, mainly because I have never personally witnessed anything convincing. I still have an open mind on the subject. No doubt, when the time is right, I'll get my answer. In the meantime here's what Dr Lascelles has to say:

"... there is a third existence between God and man. It is the great unknown link.

Between God and man there exists a whole universe of life which is active, benevolent, creative and positively real.

The existence of this stratum between God and man has little to do with what people think religion is. It is just a fact, as it is a fact that there is life on earth ... they are there and that is that.

This strata of life which I am referring to is inhabited by beings who were once as concrete in their formation as you are now. Actually they are still concrete and visible to each other. It is only that they have passed out of the wave band of vibration which you can perceive. Those beings have all lived an earth life and have passed through what you like to call death.

The inhabitants are all those whom you tend to think of as dead. They are not dead, of course, far from it, but they have terminated their period of activity on earth. They exist in great numbers and live lives which, in many respects, are not unlike yours. There is one difference they are aware of you, and they are concerned with life as they once knew it on earth, but you are not usually aware of them.

The spirits of the dead do exist and offer constant help. But do not imagine they can be prayed to. They cannot. You must pray to God and God will answer your prayers through the inhabitants of the invisible world ... The spirits or angels receive their power from the source of all power just as you do, and they stand as a bridge between the ultimate power and you.

Their invisibility and their apparent non-existence in the normal way must not blind you to the reality of their presence."

The Doctor admits that many prayers are not answered. The technique, it seems, has to be learnt. He continues by saying:

"The Bible tells us to approach the Lord in calmness and confidence. In such a manner must we approach prayer ... It is not necessary to kneel in a penitent pose of sad commitment. The affectation of a 'religious' voice is of no help nor is one required to adopt a confessional attitude ... Sit comfortably and as far as possible in a relaxed position. Lie down if you feel better that way. Sitting, kneeling and standing expend energy. Power is required and an extra supply may be induced from a state of relaxation."

The doctor adds:

"Remember that we only retreat into the orthodox attitude to God and prayer because we fail to see, hear and feel the presence of angelic beings. Were we convinced that actual angelic beings accompanied us during the day and were at hand through all our sufferings, we should feel no need for formalised religious teachings. We would simply know and, in knowing we would be complete."

And that's it for today, other than to thank my good friend Colin, who died a few years back, for leaving me this and other information.

Is Homosexuality Wrong But Slavery Okay?

Slave girl comic cover

It's interesting how the Bible is often quoted to justify what is right and wrong. Homosexuality, for example, is said to be 'wrong' because of what is written in Leviticus 18:22. To quote: "Thou shall not lay with mankind, as with womankind: it is an abomination."

The problem with quotes from the Bible is that, those who quote, usually cherry pick what fits their argument and conveniently overlook other aspects of what is also written.

The following is something that was sent to me which I hadn't seen this before - but maybe that's because I'm in England and the cutting is from the USA. Whatever - here we go:

"When US radio personality Laura Schlessinger said, to an Orthodox Jew, that homosexuality is an abomination, according to Leviticus 18:22, and couldn't be condoned in any circumstance she received this letter:

"Dear Laura,

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I've learnt a great deal from you and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, I remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination.

But I need some advice regarding some other laws. When I burn a bull on the alter as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odour for the Lord (Lev. 1:9) but my neighbours claim it's not so pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

I'd like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. What would a fair price be for her?

I know I'm allowed no contact with a woman while she's in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev. 15:19-24) but how do I tell? I've tried asking but most women take offence.

Lev.25:44 says I may possess slaves, male and female, provided they're purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend claims this applies to Mexicans but not Canadians. Can you clarify?

A friend feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it's a lesser abomination than homosexuality. Do you agree? I'm sure you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging."

There are also so many other diverse laws in the Bible that we couldn't possibly follow, but religious teachers somehow forget these. They seem to often preach what suits.

Personally I believe we should all respect each other regardless of race, colour, sexual preference, religion, age and so on ... and live as one.

Creation And Destruction Of The Earth

Not sure why I thought about this, but it's strange how in the beginning the earth was created in six days - and God rested on the seventh.  According to Genesis in the Bible, that is.  One problem with this (well, lots really) there wouldn't have been any 'days' until the sun and moon were created.

Also God created light and darkness - day and night - on the first day but, again, there was no sun or moon.

It always interests me how some people take the Bible as being, erm, gospel.

I suppose the argument would be that a day in the beginning wasn't a day as we know it.  It was much, much longer - a period of time. Someone, years ago, who reckoned he knew all about this sort of stuff, said a day was actually a thousand years.  "Why a thousand years?" I asked.  Great rumblings and mutterings and, "Because it was", was the answer.

But everything goes in cycles or periods of time (as we know it). Occultists talk of Cosmic Days, we are supposedly in the fifth - but maybe we are moving into the sixth, and this is what the Maya calender is really all about.

It won't be the end of the earth or mankind, but a new beginning, a shift in consciousness. It would be nice to think so.

According to James Redfield the Mayan calender illustrates a time scale showing the nine Steps of Creation.  It is the ninth step that ends in 2012 - the first step beginning about 16 billion years ago when the universe was created.  All very simplistic.

A more fanciful approach was taken by José Argüelles in The Mayan Factor: Path Beyond Technology. He claims that on August 13, 3113 BC the Earth began a passage through a galactic synchronization beam that emanated from the center of our galaxy, that it would pass through this beam during a period of 5200 tuns (Maya cycles of 360 days each), and that this beam would result in total synchronization and galactic entrainment of individuals plugged into the Earth's electromagnetic battery by December 21, 2012. He believed that the Maya aligned their calendar to correspond to this phenomenon. So there you go.

There's lots of doom and gloom and fanciful stories on the Internet, books on the subject of 2012 abound - well they would be, it's a lucrative market.

I think that Karl Kruszelnicki in Great Moments in Science gets nearest to what I feel will happen on 21 Dec 2012 - a new calender will commence.

Kruszelnicki writes: "…when a calendar comes to the end of a cycle, it just rolls over into the next cycle. In our Western society, every year 31 December is followed, not by the End of the World, but by 1 January. So 13.0.0.0.0 in the Mayan calendar will be followed by 0.0.0.0.1 – or good-ol’ 22 December 2012, with only a few shopping days left to Christmas."

No doubt this isn't as exciting. I feel that man will continue to grow spiritually and will one day go on to inhabit other planets, just as the first settlers of our age travelled to North America, Australia and so on. Hopefully, being of improved consciousness, they will treat any 'natives' they may find on these planets with more respect than we did with the likes of the Native Americans and the Australian Aborigines. Or will it be us that is more 'native' like in comparison?

In the meantime let's try to make this place and time a better place and time for everyone.

The Secret Teachings Of Karma And Sickness

Tibet monastery
Stories about ancient mystical manuscripts are numerous but, like the Dead Sea Scrolls, this one is believed to be true.

The story goes way back to the mid 1750s when a representative of the English Earl of Derby was travelling in China and came across, what he described as, 'the large country of Tibet, called by some Barantola.'

He discovered in Lhasa the Grand Lama (now known as the Dalai Lama) 'who is reverenced, and even adored as a god.' At the temple, hidden away, were 'writings of antiquity.' Following authorisation of the Emperor of China these manuscripts were allowed to be translated.

The writings were said by the Chinese to be attributed to Confucius but the Rosicrucian opinion is somewhat different: '... there is every indication ... that most was written by Amenhotep IV, Pharaoh of Egypt, during 1360 to 1350 BC.' If correct this would mean the manuscripts are now nearly 3,400 years old.

The followers of Amenhotep were the founders of sects such as the Essenes, which later evolved into a fraternity called the Brethren of the Rose Cross, later known as Rosicrucian. There is an opinion that Jesus belonged to the Essenes.

I have the translations of the manuscripts in a book format, which I obtained from the Rosicrucian organisation while a member.

It's too long to reprint here but I have picked out a small section which comes under the heading of the Manifestations of Karma as a flavour of what it contains. This is what is said under the heading of Pain and Sickness, which I find interesting. The language and punctuation is of the time of the translation.

"The sickness of the body affecteth even the spirit; the one cannot be in health without the other.

Pain is of all ills that which is most felt; and it is that which from nature hath the fewest remedies.

When thy constancy faileth thee, call to thy reason; when thy patience quitteth thee, call in thy hope.

To suffer, is a necessity entailed upon thy nature, wouldst thou that miracles should protect thee from its lessons? or shalt thou repine, because it happeneth unto thee, when lo! it happeneth to all? Suffering is the golden cross upon which the rose of the Soul unfoldeth.

It is injustice to expect exemption from that thou wert born to learn; submit with modesty to the laws of thy condition.

Wouldst thou say to the seasons, "Pass not on, lest I grow old?" is it not better to suffer well that which thou canst not avoid?

Pain that endureth long, is moderate; blush therefore to complain of it: that which is violent, is short: behold thou seest the end of it.

The body was created to be subservient to the Soul; while thou afflictest the Soul for the body's pain, behold thou settest the body above it.

As the wise afflicteth not himself, because of a thorn teareth his garment, so the patient grieveth not his Soul because that which covered it is injured."

This is probably not to all tastes but when we look at such old manuscripts there is a often a similarity of themes, many of which have been adapted into the Bible.

The Hidden Bible Code Coincidence

Bible Code A few days ago I left a comment on Rob and Trish's blog Synchrosecrets. I mentioned how I had a vivid dream about an old man handing me a book with an orange cover called the The Bible Code. In the dream he told me to read it as it could be important.

I must admit - though I intended to look for the book - I thought no more about it. Yesterday I went to my local town and while there went into a shop called Poundland - it's where everything costs £1 (about $1.40).

I was wandering round while my wife was in another store. And there it was - a book with an orange cover and titled The Bible Code 2. So I bought the book.

It's an interesting enough book but the facts aren't something I can easily verify for myself. The gist is that within the Bible there is a code and these can be deciphered from the original script.

The author claims that this is some sort of precognitive code - and tells us of our future. Unfortunately, at the moment, this can only be verified by things that have happened in the past. Here's an example, which is on the book's fly cover:

The Bible Code

The above is an example of the code and the author describes this:

"At 8.48am on September 11, 2001 I was awakened by the sound of an explosion that changes the world forever.

I ran to my roof just in time to see a second Boeing 747 fly right into the second of the Twin towers, setting it ablaze. It was obviously no accident ...

I ran down from the roof and immediately searched the ancient code on my computer, the Bible Code. 'Twin Towers' was encoded in the 3000 year old text. 'Airplane' appeared in exactly the same place. 'It caused to fall, knocked down' crossed 'airplane' and 'towers.'

What I saw happen with my own eyes on September 11, 2001 was encoded in the Bible 3000 years ago. It was not the terrorist attack that really shook me. It was what the Bible Code predicted was yet to come."

Think of that as you will. Would you have rushed to your computer if you had witnessed such an event nearby?

So what else does this Bible Code Book 2 say? Lots of stuff, too much to mention in a blog post, but here's a couple of examples:

One of the Codes states that our 'DNA was brought in a vehicle' and that the code of life was sent to Earth in a 'spaceship'.

Though to many this may seem far fetched, it is a possibility that our beginnings did come from outer space or from another planet. Even some scientists hold such theories.

Seemingly in Genesis the Code talks of 'In steel obelisks'. Could this refer to spaceships? Genesis also states that 'In the image of God he made him, male and female he made them.' Similar words are in the modern version of the Bible Genesis 1:27. I mentioned this in my post The Suffering Created By Eve And Pandora

The Bible Code also shows the words 'Time machine' and 'It might come at any time.' Could this mean a spaceship may arrive - from the same 'people' who brought the Earth's first DNA? Is this the real second coming?

I'm not sure what to make of the Bible Code mainly because I have to take what is written on trust. I like to be able to verify things myself if at all possible. One thing though the book has made me want to do is to read the Bible again to see what I can discover. Not from a traditional Christian point of view but to see what I can make of it all. Myths? Legends?

I know there are some 'truths' within the New Testament but the Bible in general has been amended and altered through the years to suit the people of the time. But there could still just be something of the original version remaining that is extra meaningful.
