A Dream Saved Their Lives From A Volcanic Eruption

Mt Pelée
Mt Pelee
Early in 1902, an American tourist in St.Pierre, on the island of Martinique in the West Indies had a terrifying dream.

Mt Pelee eruption 1902
Mrs C.M Craig of New York City has a dream in which she saw her husband and brother, who were on vacation with her, standing in a rain of fire which seemed to be coming from a black cloud over Mt. Pelee.

In the dream, she saw the men killed by some half-crazed natives seeking shelter from the fire.

When she awoke, Mrs Craig told her husband and brother about the dream. They laughed. But she insisted the dream had spoiled her vacation and suggested they leave St Pierre at once.

They finally gave in. The Craigs left for New York in mid-April. It was during the early morning of May 8th that Mt Pelee erupted, killing about 40,000 persons and turning St Pierre into a lifeless city.

There was only one temporary survivor - although he eventually died of burns. He was Auguste Ciparis, a drunk and thief, who was the sole occupant of the jail's underground solitary cell.

She Dreamed Of Her Grandma's Death

Grandma says goodbye

Some will no doubt say the following story is a coincidence, while others will call it a spiritual connection or maybe precognition. But, whatever, it makes you think about how such things can happen.

I had a dream the night before my great-grandmother passed away. I hadn't seen her in about a year as she lived in another state and I hadn't talked to her in about a week. I found out later this was because she was in a coma.

In the dream I had been in my room when the phone rang, I answered it and I heard my grandma. the conversation went like this.

"Hey Grandma"
"Hello Bree"
"How are you doing? I miss you a lot"
"I haven't been feeling too well, I miss you too"
"Well at least I'm coming out next month then I can see you and mom and the rest of the family"
"They will be so happy to see you. I wont be there though I am leaving this week. I love you. I have to go now"
"I love you too. Maybe you'll be back from your trip by the time I get out there."

That is where the conversation ended and I hung up the phone. The next morning my dad came in my room and told me my grandmother had passed away earlier in the morning. This happened in December of 2005. I was 11.

The Dream Precognition And The Double Hanging In Bodmin That 25,000 People Came To Watch

Bodmin Jail Cornwall
Bodmin Jail or Gaol
Captain Edmund Norway, the master of the merchant ship Orient, was situated seven miles off the volcanic island of St Helena in the south Atlantic.

On the 8th of February 1840 the Captain awoke with a start. He had been dreaming and told his second officer, Mr Wren, what he had dreamt:

"I had a dreadful dream. I dreamt that my brother Nevill was murdered by two men on the road from Bodmin to Wadebridge. One fired a pistol twice, but I heard no report. He then knocked my brother from his horse, struck him several blows about the head, then ran away and left him."

Seeing his Captain was unsettled by this Mr Wren told him, "Don’t worry about it. You west country people are too superstitious." Captain Norway was from Cornwall, England.

But it must have concerned the Captain as on February 9th, 1840 he took the trouble to record his dream, and the conversation with Wren, in the ship's log.

Nevill Norway, a highly respectable timber and general merchant, was killed exactly as his brother had recorded and the murder caused considerable interest and discussion in Bodmin, Cornwall and the surrounding area. So much so that a police officer from London was sent to help with the enquiries.

Nevill had been seen on the day of the murder at Bodmin market and was carrying a considerable amount of money. It is thought he was seen by brothers, William and James Lightfoot, who were later arrested for Neville Norway's murder. They each initially blamed the other brother.

William Lightfoot finally gave his version of what had happened:

"He and his brother had met by appointment, and were determined to have some money; that when Mr Norway came up, James snapped his pistol at him twice; that he (William) then gave him a blow with a stick; that he fell off his horse, and that James struck him with his pistol."

William and James Lighfoot were found guilty at the court and Monday, the 13th of April, 1840 was fixed for their execution by hanging at Bodmin Jail.

Inside Bodmin Jail Cornwall

The hanging became cause for almost a party atmosphere and 20-25,000 people went to watch the double hanging. This is how the local newspaper, The West Briton, reported the execution:

"The execution of these wretched men (William and James Lighfoot) who murdered Nevill Norway, took place on Monday last, in front of the County Gaol.

The town of Bodmin on the Sunday evening presented the appearance of a fair, every Public House and as many private houses were filled to overflowing.

On Monday morning the road up to the prison was barricaded off from the public leaving a large open space below the drop which was occupied by the Sheriff's Javelin men and the local and special Constables.

People began to assemble very early in the morning and by twelve o'clock, the hour of execution, there could have been no less than from twenty to twenty-five thousand persons.

The prisoners were launched into eternity. They died almost immediately. The shoe of William, through the jerk, fell off.

After hanging for an hour, the bodies were cut down and put into a couple of black coffins. They were buried in a hole about three feet in the coal yard just in front of the prison.

~ West Briton Newspaper 17th April 1840.

Is it any wonder the ghosts of William and James Lightfoot still haunt Bodmin Jail?

The Light Went Out After Grandmother Died

A couple of coincidence or synchronicity stories sent to me by Laura.

In 2010 my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. I had already lost my grandfather to the disease five years earlier.

During 2011, a week before the sixth anniversary of my grandfather's death, I had a horrible premonition that my grandmother would die on the same day as my grandfather, the 4th of September.

My prediction came true. Not only did they both die on the same day, but of the same death.

Other weird coincidences sometimes happen in my dreams.

For example, after she died I had a dream about my grandmother trying to communicate with me through the light on my stair landing. In the dream every time I asked the light if it was my Nan it would flash really bright.

That morning I woke up, went downstairs and told my mum about my dream. After breakfast, while on the way up the stairs to have a shower, the very same light as in my dream flashed bright then went out.

I believe this was my grandmother telling me she was okay.

The Ghost Of Her Grandmother Visits To Give Her Advice

Ghostly grandmother in a rocking chair

My wife and I were out walking when we bumped into Trish (not Trish of synchrosecrets - she lives in the USA) who was walking her dogs. We don't know her well, she's someone we often see when we are out and about, and we tend to chat for a while.

Trish and her partner are in their late 60s and her sister suggested to her strongly that she should move to a smaller house. Perhaps a two bedroom bungalow.

She told us she was reluctant to do this for a couple of reasons. Firstly it's been her family home for several generations - her mother lived there and before that her grandmother. The house had been handed down. Also it is convenient for shops and other facilities.

Trish decided, however, to still go to an estate agent and see what smaller properties were available and at what price. After thinking about it, she thought moving did make some sense as it would leave her with a cash surplus.

She looked at a couple of properties and decided to get the estate agent to give her home a valuation the next day, out of interest.

That night she dropped off to sleep as usual but had the most vivid dream she can remember ever having. The dream featured her grandmother who was sitting in a rocking chair in the living room. She didn't look too pleased.

The 'dream' was so real Trish woke up filled with emotion. Somehow though she eventually managed to go back to sleep.

Next day in the morning, after breakfast, she went into the living room and there was water drip, dripping from the ceiling onto the rocking chair where, in her dream, her grandmother had been sitting.

There was a small leak, which had to be fixed by a plumber.

The crunch of the story is that Trish is convinced that the dream and the leak are connected. She sees them as being signs that her dead grandmother was telling her not to sell the house.

Trish phoned the estate agent to cancel the valuation. She was going to stay living where she was.

So, was it just a dream, or her grandmother telling her not to sell, or maybe a precognitive dream about a pending water leak? Whatever we may think Trish made her decision and acted on this.

Dreams As Calling Cards From Her Dead Father

Dreams and dreaming

In the past I have had dreams that have come true and have twice dreamt the winners of horse races (even though I know nothing about the sport) so the following is probably a bit mundane in comparison.

Last night I had a dream about how someone was searching for my wife. It was an older man with grey hair and a small beard. It doesn't make too much sense but I was also helping him look for Karin.

In the morning I told Karin and she said that my dream made her remember her dream, which was about her father.

Her father was looking for her. I must explain here that Karin's dad was killed when she was only four years old, so her memories of him and how he looked are very limited.

In Karin's dream someone purporting to be her father eventually found our house and called at our front door. She didn't recognise the grey haired man so she asked him questions to prove his identity, such as: did he know her birthday, her mother's name and so on.

He answered correctly but then, as sometimes happens with dreams, everything faded and she woke up.

That's all there is to it, but it made me wonder if there was perhaps more to it than just two dreams on a similar theme.

I have recently completed making an album of my son's early days, as a birthday present for him - photos and so on for about the first twelve years of his life. As he now has a son of his own I knew he would like to compare his life to that of his two year old.

At the back of the album I included photos of his recent ancestry going back three generations. This included a couple of photos of Karin's father - i.e. my son's grandfather. I wondered if this was what had stirred those dreams? Were they simply because we had dug out the old photos - or was there something deeper? Maybe a link had been strengthened between my wife and her father and he was visiting to see how her life was progressing recently.

Okay, a little fanciful for many readers. But sometimes it's good to examine other options, besides those many would consider the obvious. The way I looked at it was: why wouldn't a father - even though no longer of this world - want to see how his daughter and her family were progressing? The dream was his 'calling card'.

Reincarnation Gave Couple A Second Chance

Reincarnation Old Fashioned Couple

I'm not sure how the following story should be categorised. Is it precognition, synchronicity, coincidence, dreams, reincarnation? But, whatever, thank you to Stanley J for letting me publish this on 67 Not Out.

"As I get older I sometimes think about reincarnation and what this means to me. I have been a believer since a young man, I am now 75.

When a young man I occasionally had very vivid dreams, so real that they seemed like visions. I dreamed the following when I was 22 years old and remember it as if it was yesterday.

At the time I was a bachelor and had several young women friends all of whom were attractive and intelligent. I had no thought of marriage and enjoyed their company, often taking them on dates to restaurants and dancing. It was at this time that I had my dream.

In the dream I was leaving my flat (apartment), dressed in a suit and carrying a small suitcase. As I closed the door behind me I saw a young woman coming down the stairs from an upper floor. She was dressed in a white, lace nightgown. She looked very upset as if she had been sobbing.

She looked at me and said, "Please don't leave me. It was all my fault, please don't go."

I felt, however, that whatever had happened was really my fault. I had started an argument as an excuse for leaving her. She was my wife but I knew I had to get away and be alone. She came to me and threw her arms around my neck and I felt her tears on my cheek. It was then I realised who this 'wife' was.

I woke up from my sleep with a jolt and knew she was one of the young women I had been dating. Then everything became clear.

I had broken up with Margaret in a previous life and now had an opportunity to put everything right.

I contacted the young woman as soon as I could and started courting her properly in a respectful manner. I quickly fell in love with her and was privileged to find out that she also loved me.

We married six months later. We were both 23 and lived happily together for 51 years.

Sadly Margaret died a few months ago but we had a wonderful life with three children and five grandchildren.

I know I had been with her also in a previous life and had mistreated her. Fortunately I was given the opportunity in this life to complete the full purpose of our relationship as soul mates.

I know she will be waiting for me."

With Stanley's approval I edited the story slightly - Mike.

Distinguishing Between False And True Signs

cat thought he was a lion

Often on this blog I've talked about signs and symbols. I've mentioned, for example, about how white feathers are meaningful for me and black feathers have indicated bad luck. Coincidences or synchronicity have also been important in my life.

All well and good, but sometimes I feel we can overdo such things. Reading the signs can easily become an obsession so that we end up being 'guided' by all sorts of symbols, signs and happenings. For instance early last week I walked out of my front door and there was a big black feather waiting for me. "Oh, bad luck coming. Wonder what the feather signifies," I immediately thought.

black feather
After arriving back home from a walk, just before my house, there was another black feather - was this to reinforce the warning?

By the end of the week nothing had happened, all was well with my world. Phew!

What I'm getting at is that we have to be able to distinguish between genuine and false signs. "But a black feather is a black feather," you may argue.

It is, but my own belief is that any 'true' sign or symbol has an actual power that goes with it. Personally I see the sign and there's an inner feeling that goes with this. It's hard to describe, other to say that it simply 'feels' right. Intuition has perhaps clicked in.

It's also the same with dreams. Some 'feel' as if they are meaningful and may include a message or a warning about something. Other dreams are simply dreams.

As we are individualised parts of the whole, we recognize true signs or dreams in various ways: perhaps a tingle, a feeling in the stomach, heart or somewhere deep inside, maybe what seems like a voice is heard and many other ways. It's up to us to decipher how we sense genuine signs - that black feather could have simply fallen from a passing bird.

If we come to believe that everything is a sign of some sort we'll drive ourselves nutty and will miss out on so much of life. In fact it may have the very opposite effect to what we wish.

Going pack to my personal signs with feathers. If I see a black feather and think immediately 'bad luck' I could well create something bad with my own thought patterns. What we give out, we get back. In other words we see a false sign or symbol and then attract what it is that this sign or symbol means to us. In this case we feed the effect or outcome.

Somehow we have to work out our own personal way of distinguishing the difference between true and false signs.

Our brains seem to be wired to see patterns and to attribute meaning to these. Novice magicians are said to be often led down the garden path because of this, and find delusions everywhere instead of truths. The sorcerer's apprentice needs intelligence and discernment to distinguish between the truly magical and the mere ordinary.

Precognition In Dreams: Is It Simply Paranormality

Illusions and dreams
The Daily Mail wrote a review on Professor Richard Wiseman's book Paranormality: Why We See What Isn't There. In the book the professor states that we cannot dream the future (even though many of us have done so ourselves). One of his reasons is the numbers solution, similar to that often used by skeptics as to why coincidences and synchronicity are purely chance events.

The following is the quote the Daily Mail uses in it's review, as to why dreams do not psychically foretell the future. In this case he is talking about the Aberfan disaster and how many people dreamed about this in advance of the event.

"Let’s assume Brian dreams each night of his life from age 15 to 75. There are 365 days in each year, so those 60 years of dreaming will ensure Brian experiences 21,900 nights of dreams.

Let’s also assume an event like the Aberfan disaster will happen only once in each generation, and randomly assign it to any one day.

Now, let’s assume Brian will remember dreaming about the type of terrible events associated with such a tragedy only once in his entire life. The chances of Brian having his 'disaster' dream the night before the actual tragedy is about a massive 22,000 to one.

However, here comes the sneaky bit. In the Sixties, there were around 45 million people in Britain, and we would expect one person in every 22,000, or roughly 2,000 people, to have this amazing experience in each generation.

The principle is known as the Law of Large Numbers, and states unusual events are likely to happen when there are lots of opportunities for that event.

Our example concerned only people dreaming about the Aberfan tragedy. In reality, national and international bad fortune happens on an almost daily basis. Aeroplane crashes, tsunamis, serial killings, earthquakes and so on.

Given that people dream about doom and gloom more often than not, the numbers quickly stack up and acts of apparent prophecy are inevitable."

Though this is a good argument I know that I have dreamt of things that have happened regarding my personal and family life - plus two winners of horse races! None of these could have been the result of the sheer number of dreams I have had.

Mrs. D Thompson also disagrees with Professor Wiseman - this is her very sad story:

"In April 2006 I was living in Cyprus and had a dream, or nightmare. I awoke in shock at what I had dreamt.

The dream I'd had was of my daughter in intensive care with tubes etc. everywhere. In my dream she died.

As you can imagine, this was awful - and very vivid. In June that year I flew to Spain where my daughter was living. Without going into all the details, on my way to Spain I received a phone call to say my daughter had been taken into care. I had no idea what had happened, but on my arrival her partner collected me from the airport and took me straight to the hospital.

There was my poor daughter wired up to every machine imaginable, in a very poor state. She was exactly as she had been in my dram.

It turned out that my daughter had terminal cancer. She died 15 months later in October 2007, aged 39.

What would Richard Wiseman make of this? How and why could I dream something like this? There was no coincidence, it happened"

I won't add anything further to Mrs. Thompson's experience.

As for Professor Wiseman, he has an interesting and amusing blog full of quirky mind stuff but remember, as well as being a Professor, he is also a magician.

A Lady In A Red Shawl Coincidence

Charles Dickens in 1842On Thursday night of last week, being at the office here, I dreamed that I saw a lady in a red shawl with her back towards me. On her turning round I found that I didn't know her, and she said, "I am Miss Napier."

The next morning, all the time I was dressing, I thought about the dream and what a preposterous thing it was to have such a very distinct dream about nothing! And why Miss Napier? For I had never heard of any Miss Napier.

That same Friday night, after reading, I came into my retiring-room and there was Miss Boyle and her brother and also a lady in a red shawl - whom they presented to me as: "Miss Napier."

No, that's not my coincidence story, instead it comes from the 1800s and none other than the English author Charles Dickens (1812-1870). Though Dickens often used coincidences within his stories the Miss Napier episode is fact and not fiction. The photo shows him in a painting from 1842.

67 Not Out Readers Coincidence Stories - 9

A couple of 67 Not Out readers' stories. If you have an interesting coincidence or synchronicity story you would like published on this blog please use the 'Contact' button at the top of the page - thanks in anticipation - Mike.

Careful what you dream it may come true
Tonight was my ballet school's annual concert. A couple of nights ago, I was lying in bed, not quite asleep but not awake either, when I had a half-dream of the theatre being on fire.

It was on my mind for the day, not because I believed it would come true, but because I decided it'd be fun to build on it and write a short story.

Today, we drove up to the theatre, and I was dropped off outside, surprised to discover that the entire dance school was standing outside. Why? The fire alarm was going off.

It was a false alarm, and there was no fire for the rest of the night, but it was still oddly coincidental, and almost scary.

Coincidence In Surrealism
My dad took the family on Sabbatical from the University of Kansas to France in 1989, and we lived in a house in a suburb of Paris. The house belonged to a woman who was a curator at the Louvre, and she rented it out to (mostly) visiting scientists -my dad's a physicist.

There was a book on Surrealism in her library that I always wished I'd stolen but, back then, I was 14 and a good kid.

Years later, I was walking around Manhattan on my third day in college with a bunch of other new Cooper Union students. We'd come from all over the country.

This one flat-nosed guy from Pennsylvania and I started talking about our parents, and Sabbaticals, and the conversation went something like this:

"You lived in France, too, huh?" I said.

"Yeah, in a suburb of Paris."

"Really? Did you live in Orsay?"

"Yeah." At this point, I got a creepy feeling.

"Did you live at 35 Rue des Xxxxxxx?" I asked.

He had the Surrealism book back in his dorm room. I should of stolen it from him.

Precognitive Dreams Seeing Into The Future

Precognitive DreamsYesterday I was thinking about re-publishing some of my early posts - mainly because at that time the blog didn't have many subscribers or readers - and was looking at one I wrote about dreaming of horse racing winners.

As sometimes happens with the world of coincidences, still undecided, I picked out a book from the many on my office shelves. It was Colin Wilson's Mysteries. I opened the book at page 147 and this was all about someone who also predicted the winners of horse races in his dreams.

So today I'll give you the Mysteries story plus my old post on the same subject, though a little updated, afterwards.

This is supposedly well authenticated. John Arthur Godley, who later became Lord Kilbracken, woke one morning on March 8, 1946 with the names of two horses running over and over in his mind. The names were Bindle and Juladdin.

In his dream the two horses were in a list of winners shown in a newspaper. Godley told his friend Richard Freeman about the dream and they checked if the horses were entered in any races that day. By coincidence they were.

As Godley was at Oxford University at the time he got together a syndicate and they placed the first of two bets.

Bindle won the one o'clock race at Plumpton.

They transferred their winnings and put it all on Juladdin, who was running at Weatherby. The horse won at ten to one and the syndicate won a handsome sum.

A few weeks later there was another dream, very similar to the previous one. This was about a horse Tubermor running in the 4 o'clock at Aintree. Again the horse won at a hundred to six .

No more such dreams for another year until Godley dreamed he was at the races and recognised the colours of the winner. He also 'heard' the crowd shouting the name of another winner: The Bogey.

On checking his newspaper he found that the colours belonged to the rider of a horse called Baroda Squadron. He couldn't, however, find a horse called The Bogey but there was a runner with the name of The Brogue running at Lingfield.

Godley placed bets on both horses and they both won.

He also dreamed of the winner of the 1958 Grand National, Mr. What, with odds of eighteen to one and winning him £400 - a reasonable sum back then.

After this his winning dreams deserted him.

Colin Wilson actually presented this case on UK's BBC television back in 1977. One of the points made was that the money placed by Godley was only small amounts when you would have thought her would have made a killing. One of the reasons he didn't was because he didn't feel 'right' about making money this way. This ties in with many psychics who think it is wrong to cash in on their powers.

Psychic powers, it seems, should be used for self advancement and not for profit. So perhaps it was the right thing that I didn't have bets on the two winners I dreamed about.

I can't prove my dreams, all I can say is that I promise they are true. Anyway, here are my two precognitive dreams:

Corbiere(1) The first goes back to 1976 but it's one that I remember distinctly because I dreamt the winner of the British Derby.

The thing about this is that I knew absolutely nothing about horse racing, I'd never even had a bet on a horse race or was aware of the names of any 'good' horses. However in 1976 I woke and told my wife that I knew who would win the Derby that day. I said it would be Empery. She just gave me an odd look, the way wives sometimes do.

That morning we went out and passed a bookies, with parking space, and my wife said that, for fun, I should place a bet on Empery because of my dream. I didn't though and said that I had no idea how to place a bet and besides, "Who believes in dreams?"

Needless to say Empery won the Derby Stakes that afternoon at ten to one odds.

(2) In 1983 I did it again. This time I dreamt the winner of the Grand National. Again I told my wife the name of the winner: Corbiere. I also mentioned this to a friend, in advance of the race.

Once more I didn't have a bet on the race and Corbiere was the winner.

There are two strange things about both of these dreams - the only two I have ever had about horse racing winners. Even though I hadn't seen a list of horses running in the races, or had the slightest interest in the races, the horses names do have links to me.

(a) Empery is my name, well sort of. I am M.Perry so that is pronounced empery.

(b) I previously lived in Corbiere Avenue.

So what does all this mean? Well there is an obvious synchronicity in the horses names and myself. Did I somehow pick up on this by some means or other?

I have also had other dreams which appear to have looked into the future, but that's maybe for another day.

Aboriginal Elders Dream Led Police to Dead Body

Here's an sad story from Australia about a precognitive dream that wasn't quite what it first appeared.

An Aboriginal elder had a dream about the body of a child being buried and saw the location of where this was. This made sense as there is a search going on for six-year-old Kiesha Abrahams from Mount Druitt in Sydney who disappeared mysteriously from her bedroom.

The spot seen by the elder in her dream was at the Nurragingy Reserve at Doonside in western Sydney, which is a sacred Aboriginal site.

The police followed up on the dream and found a dismembered torso wrapped in plastic - but it wasn't that of the missing six year old.

The body is possibly that of a Sidney woman who has been missing for just over two months.

Detective Chief Inspector Pamela Young, from the homicide squad, when questioned by reporters about the incident is quoted as saying, "I understand that the woman (the Aboriginal elder who had the dream) thinks that she might have some powers along that (psychic) line. I have certain strong feelings about people who claim they are psychic. I don't think it will help if we enter a discussion on that." Read into that what you will.

As for the Aboriginal elder, Cheryl Carroll-Lagerwey, she said that she didn't consider herself to be psychic but had a 'third sense'. She simply said "I can't explain this. I had a dream about a little girl being murdered and that her body was about there."

This is a heart breaking story, lets hope that little Kiesha will be found safely. She was last seen around 9.30pm July 31, 2010. If anyone has any information please go to Help Find My Child.

How Dreams Solve Problems And Questions

DreamsI recently wrote a post with examples of how some famous dreams produced some amazing results.

Today though I'm taking a slightly different track about how we can get answers to problems or questions with the help of dreams.

Here are a couple of illustrations which I have amongst my cuttings.

The first is from the author of self help books Dr Joseph Murphy. He writes: "I once lost a valuable ring, which was an heirloom. I looked everywhere but couldn't locate it.

That night I talked to my subconscious. I said to it, prior to dropping off to sleep, 'You know all things; you know where the ring is and you now reveal to me where it is.'

In the morning I awoke suddenly with the words ringing in my ear, 'Ask Robert.'

I thought it strange that I should ask Robert, a boy about nine years of age; however, I followed the inner voice and intuition.

Robert said, 'Oh, yes, I picked it up in the yard while I was playing with your boys. I placed it on the desk in my room. I didn't think it worth anything, so I didn't say anything about it.'"

Dr Murphy claims it was his subconscious / unconscious which provided him with his request for information.

The second example is again about finding something. This time a will.

The father of the gentleman concerned had died and apparently hadn't left a will. His sister, however, claimed that their father had told her in confidence that he had made one, which was fair to both of them. All attempts to find the will failed.

Prior to sleep the man talked to his deeper mind. His words were: 'I now turn this request over to the subconscious mind. It knows where that will is and reveals it to me.'

He then condensed his request to one word: 'Answer.' He repeated this over and over, almost like a lullaby until he fell asleep.

The next morning the man had an overpowering hunch to go to a certain bank in Los Angeles. He discovered that this was where the will had been lodged - in a deposit box in his father's name. With the right authority he was able to gain access to the will.

Again in this second example the man in question believed the answer came from his unconscious mind.

Personally I don't think it makes any difference as to who or what can answer our questions or problems. It's for us to choose what we are comfortable with, whether that be: unconscious mind, angels, God, Universal Mind, saints, deceased relative or whatever. The important point is that we can get the answers we need with the help of dreams.

The usual format I follow is: once in bed, I still my mind and relax completely.

I then think over the problem or question and try to solve this myself. If I can't find the answer I imagine how pleased I would be if I had found the solution and allow my mind to ponder this mood and the satisfaction of having found the answer.

I drop off to sleep knowing I have the answer to my problem or question.

The solution may come within a dream or a feeling on waking. Should the answer not come right away - no worries. I know the answer will arrive, so I go about my normal day and don't think about the problem (after all it is already solved).

When I am preoccupied with something else then, ding, what I'm seeking will pop into my head or the info will come from another source. Maybe something someone says or from a book, newspaper or almost from anywhere.

If the solution hasn't arrived by the end of the day, I repeat the format.

If you have ever done, say crosswords or something similar, sometimes there are one or two clues that you just can't solve. But I bet if you go back to it later then the answer is often obvious. You wonder why on earth you couldn't get it before. Your 'mind' has effortlessly been solving this for you. It's a similar principle with any problem.

Answers and solutions are always there - if we ask - and dreams can help with this.

Examples Of Famous Dreams

"Is it not known to all people that the dream is the most usual way that God reveals himself to man" — TertullianI was wondering what to write about today and then heard a story from Jane McDonald, who is a reasonably well known British singer. Jane told of a dream she had, which came true.

She dreamt about her boyfriend at the time. A blonde woman then came into view in her dream and started kissing him.

A few days later her boyfriend told her he wanted to separate as he had met someone else. Jane says she recognised the woman instantly, it was the woman from her dream. The image was exactly the same.

I've previously written about how Abraham Lincoln had a precognitive dream about his death and also a couple of dreams I've had myself.

It does seem that was can all dream in a 'worthwhile' manner, some call these lucid dreams. Here are a few famous examples.

Paul McCartney - YesterdayBack in 1965, with the Beatles still at the height of their fame, Paul McCartney woke one morning remembering a tune he had heard being played by a classical string ensemble.

Paul went to his piano, which was in his bedroom, found G, found F sharp minor 7th and then went on to play the music from his dream. He said at the time, "Because I'd dreamed it, I couldn't believe I'd written it. I thought, 'No, I've never written anything like this before.' But I had the tune, which was the most magic thing!"

Later he played the tune to the other three Beatles and they came up with the words for the music: "Yesterday, All my troubles seemed so far away, Now it seems that they are here to stay, Oh I believe in Yesterday."

Adolf HitlerMoving on to someone not so pleasant: Adolf Hitler. He reportedly had a dream that saved his life. Without this happening, who knows, perhaps there may never have been a second world war.

During World War I Hitler fell asleep in the trenches and dreamed that he and his fellow soldiers were about to be covered by earth and molten metal. When he woke he immediately left the trench - his fellow soldiers were all killed when the trench was hit by a shell.

Paul McCartney discovered a hit tune and with the help of another dream Elias Howe invented the sewing machine.

Howe had the idea of a machine for sewing but couldn't figure out the design of the needle - until he had a dream, that is. This was his dream:

He was captured by a group of natives and they were dancing around him waving their spears. He noticed that their spears all had holes near their tips at the pointed ends.

On waking he realized that this was the solution to making his machine sew. The thread needed to go through a hole in the tip of the needle. The rest, as they say, is history. Most modern sewing machines still have the same style of needles.

Mary ShelleyMoving on again, the Frankenstein story followed a dream. Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin was with her lover Percy Shelley at Lord Byron's villa by Lake Geneva. He challenged his guests to write a ghost story. That night Mary had a dream:

"When I placed my head upon my pillow, I did not sleep, nor could I be said to think. I saw, with shut eyes, but with acute mental vision. I saw the pale student of unhallowed arts kneeling beside the thing he had put together. I saw the hideous phantasm of a man stretched out, and then, on the working of some powerful engine, show signs of life, and stir with an uneasy, half-vital motion. Frightful must it be; for supremely frightful would be the effect of any human endeavor to mock the stupendous Creator of the world." Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, from her introduction to Frankenstein.

The Bible also attaches importance to dreams, especially in the Old Testament, as in the case of Daniel in The Book Of Daniel - see Chapter 2 for example.

There are heaps more famous dreams recorded on the Internet. Many of these have imparted information, precognition, solutions, advice and warnings. Dreams can become an important part of living - if we bother to listen to them and heed what they tell us.

Goats In Trees Coincidence

Goats in trees in Morocco
I had a dream about goats in trees. I thought nothing more about this until my wife was looking through one of our photograph albums - and there they were again, goats in trees.

The photos (as shown on this post) were from when we visited Morocco, a few years back. We were on our way to Marrakesh and there at the side of the road were all of these goats climbing into trees.

The area before the Atlas mountains is very dry and dusty and, as there is little for the goats to eat on the ground, they climb into the trees to munch on the leaves.

At the time we were quite amazed by this but, as happens in Morocco, after a few minutes a man arrived out of nowhere demanding money for taking pictures of his goats. I gave him something but he obviously didn't think it enough so we continued with our journey instead of arguing with him.

The following day after my dream I was at the dentist for a routine check up (nothing needed doing - what a relief!) and was flicking through some ancient magazines, that waiting rooms always seem to have, and came across an article about the very Moroccan goats I had been thinking about recently.

Goats climbing treesFollowing this goats seemed to be everywhere! In conversations, pictures and so on.

I've been pondering as to the significance of these goats, if indeed there is any. I googled 'goat symbols'.

According to Catholic Symbols, "The Goat Christian Symbol represents oppressors, wicked men and demonic forces. The goat also symbolises unrepentant sinners who will be separated from God on judgment day which is associated with the following Bible verse: Matt 25:33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left."

Not really happy with this I also discovered that in dreams goats indicate: 'Vitality, fertility, creativity, virility, abundance and lust'. That sounded a bit better! But somehow still didn't feel right as an explanation for goats and goats in trees relative to my life.

I still haven't reached any conclusion. Perhaps it's just to tell me to get travelling and discover some more interesting and unusual things.

Clairvoyants Just Can't Read Me

Clairvoyant with crystal ballYears back, in my experimental days, I went to see quite a few clairvoyants to see what they could tell me. Could they inform me or give me signs of the future? Would they come up with something that they couldn't possibly have known about me beforehand?

Unfortunately, in my case, the answer to both questions was 'no' - and being a 'believer' I was greatly disappointed.

I reached a conclusion that perhaps I'm a difficult person to read, perhaps I'm too guarded. I say this because one clairvoyant looked at my hand with a puzzled look, then moved on to cards and finally said words to the effect of, "Sorry, but I can't tell you anything as I'm not picking up a thing."

This worried me slightly as I thought there might be something she was hiding from me, but she assured me there wasn't any bad news - or good news - because she just couldn't see anything at all. This didn't exactly fill me with confidence. She did say, however, that I was psychic. She smiled, held her hand over mine and asked if I could feel her energy. It could perhaps have been a lovely moment but I thought I had better leave!

I then went to see Acora who describes himself as a 'world renowned Romany clairvoyant' and was recommended to me. He saw stuff, but it had no relevance to me and nothing he said has ever come true.

He told me, for instance, that I would soon move into property developing and would own houses which I would rent out. Sounded good but then, by 'coincidence', I got talking to another man who had seen Acora as well and guess what he was told? Yes, that he'd move into property etc.

The thing about both of us was that, when we saw Acora for a reading, we were both dressed in business suits and ties and carrying brief cases - enough said.

I had my tea leaves read. A sweet old woman who told me I must be careful when I go potholing. Potholing! There's nothing I'm less likely to do. I hate the thought of squeezing into confined spaces.

And so it went on.

There was a Tarot lady, again a personable woman, but all she could end up telling me was that all that really matters is happiness. Might have been relevant I suppose but there were no predictions.

I don't know how many clairvoyants I saw but none of them could say what I'd done in the past, what my future holds or anything worthwhile.

Maybe it's just me. My wife went to see someone, when we first met, and she was told things about me (is nothing sacred!) that were true and also that she could see us, as a couple, in a white car with a small boy in the back seat. We had a son twelve months later, and a new white car.

Sceptics will say that my wife gave away clues whereas I didn't. Could be, but I'm still convinced that we can see possible avenues for our lives in advance - after all there is no such thing as time. We still have a certain control as to whether we take the full journey down these avenues or not.

I've been able to see things myself into the future in dreams, in meditations and with feelings just out of the blue.

I guess the clairvoyants I saw just couldn't read me.

Evil Nightmares And The Number 2

evil shadow nighmareI have been reading recently about people who have, what I would call, nightmares. These are ones which feature a dark or black cloaked figure, usually thought of as being male.

I've read dozens of such cases where this figure is often in the corner of the room or sometimes floats above the person having the 'nightmare'. Most describe the figure as being evil. One woman wrote, "It reeks pure evil and I just know it’s there to hurt or kill me. I have never felt such fear in all my life."

Another woman told of how, "I find myself sitting straight up screaming. Should my husband try to grab my arm or wake me up, it just makes it worse. I have kicked, scratched and hit him. He's a 250 pound man and I only weigh 120 but I have kicked him clear off the bed and onto the floor thinking he was someone trying to attack me."

blue number 2What made me write about this is because of something I kept reading about the number 2 in associaion with this experience, an example being:

"Also for some reason the number 2 seems to play a prominent role, with some dreams starting with me fixated over the impression that I’m surrounding with a great number of people before that number becomes divided down into two, as in me and the presence."

Why this interests me is because I have only ever had one nightmare in my life. It was as a child of 9 or 10 but is still imprinted in my mind. I 'dreamt' that I was being chased by the number 2. I remember my mother telling me how I was standing up in my bed pointing to the corner of the room where I was insistent that a number 2 was coming to get me. To this day, I remember how terrified I was of that number 2.

Fortunately I have nothing against the number 2 today!

It's fascinating though, how many people have dreams / nightmares / night terrors about the evil dark figures and how sometimes a number 2 is involved.
