He Hypnotised The Young Woman To Do Whatever He Wished

Hypnotist

Not too sure what made me think of this subject - just hope it wasn't some outside influence.

The outside influence bit is said tongue in cheek, but I sometimes do wonder about how people can be controlled by others using the power of their mind. Some would call this hypnotism - and this reminded me of a case I read quite a while back about Franz Walter, a so called hypnotist.

This happened in Germany in 1934. Franz Walter was on a train when he noticed an attractive young woman, later to be known in the German press as Mrs E.

Posing as a doctor Walter got talking to Mrs E and found out that she had been suffering from minor stomach pains. During their conversation he is said to have suddenly seized her hand while staring deep into her eyes. In effect he was hypnotising her, which made Mrs E feel 'strange and giddy'.

It seems that she was very receptive to suggestion and Walter managed to obtain her address. Later he wrote to her ordering her to visit him, which she was unable to resist.

When they met up, and under hypnosis, he raped her and ordered her to become a prostitute. When she later married, it was claimed she was induced to make several attempts on her husband's life.

Her husband eventually realised something was dreadfully wrong and reported her behaviour to the police. He also told them that his wife had been duped out of nearly 3,000 marks. He said the perpetrator was a man who had told his wife that he was a doctor, and had given her hypnotic treatments for health problems.

Police eventually arrested Franz Walter.

The police psychiatrist, a Dr Ludwig Mayer, is said to have spent over a year de-hypnotising Mrs E and unlocking memories of her ordeals - which Walter had programmed her to forget.

Mrs. E told Dr Mayer:

"I'm no longer the same person as before. Something different controls me. I don’t want to do something, but I do it. Or I want to do something, and yet I don't do it ... in the end I thought of nothing more than doing what Walter wanted. If I obeyed I always felt more at ease. Within me I was never free - there was always something oppressing me .... I can't struggle against these pressures ... the pressure vanishes when I obey the commands of the inner voice." (Mrs E as quoted in Hypnotism and Crime by Heinz Erich Hammerschlag)

The trial, in 1936, lasted three weeks. Franz Walter was sentenced to ten years in prison for larceny and for practicing medicine without a license. Mrs E's full name was protected by the court.

Dr Mayer wrote a book in the German language in 1937 where he sought to explain Mrs E's condition while under Walter's influence:

"... a person in somnambulic hypnosis is not able to take up a critical attitude on his own behalf ... subordination to the hypnotiser, and dulling of his consciousness takes place, regardless of whether he is the subject of a legitimate experiment or is being hypnotised for other purposes ... Just as suggestions can be employed therapeutically ... they can equally well be used for criminal purposes."

I would never let myself be hypnotised. I remember reading a theory that once hypnotised the hypnotist would always have some power of you. Might not be true, but we all have so many influences and suggestions bombarding us from the media and other sources it's best to be on the safe side.

NDE: Returned From Death As She Had Three Things To Complete On Earth Before She Could Leave

NDE Near Death Experience

Here's a near death experience story I came across recently that somehow rings true. It's also interesting that the person concerned returned to our world because she had three more 'things' to do before she could move on. This follows the idea that we all have a purpose pre-determined before we are born. We have lessons to learn or projects to accomplish. Here's the story, see what you think.

"I think there should be more research and more scientific work done on possible life after death and any connections to another dimension we know nothing about. I am saying this as I have a personal story concerning my mother.

She 'died' when I was eleven years old. She killed herself by taking an overdose of tranquillisers that our family doctor had prescribed to her. My father's boss had stopped in to see if my dad was at home and noticed my mother laying on the floor. He called an ambulance and she was rushed to the hospital.

The doctors and nurses had her hooked up to the life support systems and heart monitor and were not able to get any pulse or brain activity. They had given her electric shocks to get her heartbeat back with no avail, nothing worked. They placed a sheet over her body and came to see my dad and told him she was clinically dead.

The priest came and asked if she was Catholic and would give her the last rights. He entered her room and began giving them but did not realise she was still hooked up to the monitors. The machine came back to life and started to blip and showed a heart beat. He told the doctors who rushed back in and brought her back to life.

As they checked her and asked her questions she seemed to have no brain damage or effects from the entire time she was transported to the hospital, which took roughly 30 minutes. She had 'died' for about five to ten minutes. She remained in the hospital for a few days and was omitted to the psychiatric part of the hospital for counselling for depression.

My mother was released after a week and came back home and continued to get counselling for a period of three or four months for her depression. Things worked out for her and she was able to manage in a much better way. It was not until I turned about twenty years old she confided in me about something very personal.

She told me she could remember everything about her death and that she remembers taking the pills and falling asleep. She remembers my dad's boss looking over her, the ambulance attendants checking her and picking her up and taking her into the ambulance.

Here is the weird part she actually tells me she was watching them all do this from above - she is looking down at them and she is watching it all.

Now I kind of thought this was a joke or, you know, maybe the medication she was on or something, or possibly some kind of connection to these people when they were dealing with her. Yet this gets better.

She tells me she can remember the hospital and the doctors working on her and she can remember the moment she died. She felt this tremendous warmth rush over her and could see a light appear in the distance and it was like a tunnel. It was calling her somehow, telling her to go into it to follow the light.

She told me she felt the most incredible feeling of happiness and love and started to go to the light. She was going towards it through this tunnel and all of a sudden there were four beings at the end of the light and they stopped her. They told her that it was not time for her to leave. She needed to complete three more things here before she could be accepted.

She told me that she did not want to leave and pleaded with them to stay, because she felt so wonderful and wanted to stay. They continued to instruct her to remain as she had to complete the three things on Earth before they could accept her and she would know, in time, what these three things were. All of a sudden she awoke and noticed the doctors checking her and asking her some questions.

It was pretty freaky that she could remember all of this and see everything that was happening. I was not sure what to think of this and I told my mother I had heard that some scientists and doctors had worked on this kind of thing. They said that the light that people see is just the last few electric impulses our brains have before we die. My mother insisted that this is not so and that she really experienced a spiritual meeting and conversed mentally with beings and now saw everything in a different way. She told me that she now has no fear of death and if she were to die she would be completely happy and know there is another life after death.

Now I have heard other people having the same experiences and our family ancestry is native, we are Algonquins and Ojibwe by blood. In the native cultures you hear the elders and other native people speak of spirits who talk to them or send them messages of how their life path should be. They have out of body experiences. They make important decisions based on what they should be doing in life before they can meet with their ancestors in the other world.

I tend to believe my mother and I think when it is time for me to die I would like to be happy knowing that there is something more to my being than just living on Earth and dying never to be heard of again." Source

The Real Entity Story Of The Exorcist

The Exorcist
Scene from The Exorcist
When a local priest visited the troubled young boy the boy screamed out at him in perfect Latin, "I sacerdos Christi tu scis me esse diabolum," meaning 'O Priest of Christ, you know that I am the Devil.'

Not a very nice thing to say! But the boy, known as Roland Doe, was the basis for the film The Exorcist - which is 40 years old in December.

Roland was an only child brought up in a German-American family in Baltimore, USA. He was close to his Aunt Harriet. She called herself a spiritualist and encouraged Roland to play with a Ouija board.

Harriet died and this was when the 13 year old's troubles began. At first the family heard scratching noises coming from the walls of the family home. The parents put this down to mice but when things started moving by themselves in Roland's bedroom, they realised this was something more than agitated rodents.

The bedroom furniture moved around and objects started flying about. Similar events followed at school where his desk had a life of its own and bumped other desks, once hurting another pupil.

Roland began to have blackouts and became violent. He would babble gibberish sentences.

The local Lutheran church minister suggested the family should contact the Catholic church who knew more about such happenings. It was on the Catholic priest's first visit that Roland screamed out the Latin phrase mentioned.

Exorcisms were attempted at the Georgetown University Hospital. These had to be abandoned after five nights when one of the priests was slashed down the arm with a bed spring causing a permanent injury.

Out of desperation the family moved away to St Louis. By now Roland had an aversion to anything sacred or religious and had begun to speak in a guttural voice. He was moved to the Alexian Brothers Hospital.

Father W Halloran
Two Catholic priests again tried exorcism over four nights. A Father William Bowdern performed the rite while the younger, stronger priest, Father Walter Halloran, held down the writhing boy.

Letters would appear on Roland's skin, in what appeared to be blood. These would spell out Hell, Evil or sometimes even Hello. The boy was asked his name to which he replied, "I will answer to the name of Spite."

Unexpectedly one night Roland suddenly cried out, "Satan, I am St Michael! I command you to leave this body now!" He went limp and then with a final shudder said, "He is gone!"

Roland's troubles were finally over.

In the Exorcist book and film the boy was replaced with a 12 year old girl by author Peter Blatty. He also embellished the story with extra touches such as the girl crawling along the ceiling and her head spinning round.

The Exorcist head spinning
The Exorcist Head Turning
The Exorcist had some movie-goers fainting and even vomiting while others felt too scared to move. It has been described as one of the most disturbing films ever made. To quote Wikipedia:

"It was named the scariest film of all time by Entertainment Weekly and Movies.com and by viewers of AMC in 2006, and was No 3 on Bravo's The 100 Scariest Movie Moments. In 2010, the Library of Congress selected the film to be preserved as part of its National Film Registry. In 2003, it was placed at No 2 in Channel 4's The 100 Greatest Scary Moments in the United Kingdom."

Was Roland really possesed by the devil or some other entity? Father Bowdern was convinced this was the case but some investigators have claimed that Roland Doe was simply a spoiled, disturbed bully who threw deliberate tantrums to get attention or to get out of school.

Classic Coincidence: She Fell From Heaven And Landed At His Feet

Female parachtist picture

Here's a short romantic coincidence I came across recently. I suppose it would be considered a classic now, but can you imagine a better meeting?

"When I was a struggling musical student," the famed heroic tenor Lauritz Melchior once recalled, "living in a small pension in Munich, I was sitting in the garden one day, learning the words of a new opera.

As I sang the words, 'Come to me, my love, on the wings of light,' there was a flutter, a flash of white, and there sitting at my feet, was a beautiful little creature who had dropped right out of the blue.

"It was Maria Hacker, a diminutive Bavarian actress. Stunting for a movie thriller, she had jumped from an aeroplane and landed, parachute and all, practically in my arms. And that was She. I thought that she came to me from heaven. I still think so..."

They were married between 1925 and Maria's death in 1963.

I have to admit I didn't know of Lauritz Melchior (20 March 1890 - 19 March 1973) but found out he was an opera singer and was considered the pre-eminent Wagnerian tenor of the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s.

Looking to expand this post a little I wondered if Melchior had any links to where I live in Cornwall. Pretty remote, I thought, as he was a Danish-American singer. But, good old Wikipedia, came up trumps. It seems he had met Hugh Walpole, the author, and the two quickly became firm friends, travelling together and staying in each other's houses.

On a visit to Walpole's cottage in Polperro [Cornwall] Melchior "caused a sensation by singing at a concert in the village", and later on a visit to Helston [Cornwall] he and Walpole both took part in the traditional Floral Dance.

There's always a link somewhere ... Because ...

The Dream Precognition And The Double Hanging In Bodmin That 25,000 People Came To Watch

Bodmin Jail Cornwall
Bodmin Jail or Gaol
Captain Edmund Norway, the master of the merchant ship Orient, was situated seven miles off the volcanic island of St Helena in the south Atlantic.

On the 8th of February 1840 the Captain awoke with a start. He had been dreaming and told his second officer, Mr Wren, what he had dreamt:

"I had a dreadful dream. I dreamt that my brother Nevill was murdered by two men on the road from Bodmin to Wadebridge. One fired a pistol twice, but I heard no report. He then knocked my brother from his horse, struck him several blows about the head, then ran away and left him."

Seeing his Captain was unsettled by this Mr Wren told him, "Don’t worry about it. You west country people are too superstitious." Captain Norway was from Cornwall, England.

But it must have concerned the Captain as on February 9th, 1840 he took the trouble to record his dream, and the conversation with Wren, in the ship's log.

Nevill Norway, a highly respectable timber and general merchant, was killed exactly as his brother had recorded and the murder caused considerable interest and discussion in Bodmin, Cornwall and the surrounding area. So much so that a police officer from London was sent to help with the enquiries.

Nevill had been seen on the day of the murder at Bodmin market and was carrying a considerable amount of money. It is thought he was seen by brothers, William and James Lightfoot, who were later arrested for Neville Norway's murder. They each initially blamed the other brother.

William Lightfoot finally gave his version of what had happened:

"He and his brother had met by appointment, and were determined to have some money; that when Mr Norway came up, James snapped his pistol at him twice; that he (William) then gave him a blow with a stick; that he fell off his horse, and that James struck him with his pistol."

William and James Lighfoot were found guilty at the court and Monday, the 13th of April, 1840 was fixed for their execution by hanging at Bodmin Jail.

Inside Bodmin Jail Cornwall

The hanging became cause for almost a party atmosphere and 20-25,000 people went to watch the double hanging. This is how the local newspaper, The West Briton, reported the execution:

"The execution of these wretched men (William and James Lighfoot) who murdered Nevill Norway, took place on Monday last, in front of the County Gaol.

The town of Bodmin on the Sunday evening presented the appearance of a fair, every Public House and as many private houses were filled to overflowing.

On Monday morning the road up to the prison was barricaded off from the public leaving a large open space below the drop which was occupied by the Sheriff's Javelin men and the local and special Constables.

People began to assemble very early in the morning and by twelve o'clock, the hour of execution, there could have been no less than from twenty to twenty-five thousand persons.

The prisoners were launched into eternity. They died almost immediately. The shoe of William, through the jerk, fell off.

After hanging for an hour, the bodies were cut down and put into a couple of black coffins. They were buried in a hole about three feet in the coal yard just in front of the prison.

~ West Briton Newspaper 17th April 1840.

Is it any wonder the ghosts of William and James Lightfoot still haunt Bodmin Jail?

The Doctor And His Coincidence With JFK And Lee Harvey Oswald

President John F Kennedy and Jackie

I was reading that Piers Morgan discovered a coincidence while interviewing Dr Ronald Jones on his CNN late night show.

Dr Jones was one of the surgical team at the Parkland Memorial Hospital Dallas, the night President Kennedy was assassinated.  He received a message, "Dr Jones, the President has been shot, we need you right away in the emergency room."

He tells how he saw JFK's wounds and that there was no sign of life. A tracheotomy was performed and an ECG heart machine was used. The doctor remembers thinking at the time, "How did I get here? The odds of me taking care of the President must be infinitesimal." But this isn't the coincidence.

Two days later Dr Jones was called for another emergency, this time on the 'assassin' Lee Harvey Oswald, who had been shot by Jack Ruby. Oswald survived for an hour and 20 minutes in the operating room.

The doctor is therefore part of history as he was called upon to treat the assassinated as well as the assassin.

I don't watch Piers Morgan's show - not even sure if it's shown in the UK - but I read in Event magazine that on the same night Kerry Kennedy, daughter of Bobby and JFK's niece, was also interviewed.

A couple of statistics came up during the interview, which I find almost hard to believe. I won't comment on them as I live in the UK - so it's not my business to do so - but here is what was said:

"... over 1.5 million Americans have been killed by guns since they [John & Bobby Kennedy] died."

and

"There are more gun dealers in the United States than McDonald's"

Walking Along A Beach After A Storm And A Lesson About Time

Kingswood Cornwall

Some Sunday photos taken following the recent storm and heavy rain in Cornwall. We walked through the woods, along by the river - with a green orb in the picture ...

Pentewan River Cornwall

... and then onto the beach at Pentewan where the river meets the sea.

There was debris on the beach and the river had cut away deeply into the sand. We pottered along the shoreline picking up stones and shells, the only people about.

Pentewan Beach, Cornwall in Autumn

Amazingly, after our sandy walk the sky changed colour completely and the sun came out to play. Everything looked very different as we approached Pentewan village, the old harbour was calm and still.

Life, like the weather, can change very quickly. It's probably just as well to enjoy the things we love when we can.

Quotes:
There comes a point in your life when you realize how quickly time goes by, and how quickly it has gone. Then it really speeds up exponentially. With that, I think you start to put a lot of things into context; you start to see how huge the world is, and really, the universe. ~ Michael Keaton

You look at most artists, the arc of their career, there's a definite decline at the end. And that decline could set in at any time. In your 50s, or your 60s and 70s if you're lucky. Time goes by fast, and you've got to be busy all the time. ~ Seth

I know this much: that there is objective time, but also subjective time, the kind you wear on the inside of your wrist, next to where the pulse lies. And this personal time, which is the true time, is measured in your relationship to memory. ~ Julian Barnes

Time flames like a paraffin stove and what burns are the minutes I live. ~ Irving Layton

Why kill time when one can employ it. ~ Proverb

The most important gifts you can give are your love, time, and attention. Slow down, take time to smile and enjoy loved ones... life goes by way too fast. ~ Nishan Panwar

A Precognition In A Dream And A Ghost With A Fetish

A story today from Aluna which covers a precognition in a dream and a ghost who maybe has a bit of a foot fetish!

We were living in Kenya and one day my dad had to go on away with his work. That night my mum had a horrid nightmare.

She said, "I dreamt I was in a Land Rover and it was night time. There was me, three other people and the driver. Suddenly there was a massive thump and the driver turned around to us and said, 'Oh my god, we've just hit something.'" As the dream went on, she found out they had hit and killed a boy who had been running along the road.

My mum was very upset and the dream was so vivid that she told my dad about it when he got back.

He apparently took a step back and with a horrified face said, "How did you know that?"

When he had been visiting a small village a man's son had ran off while he was working at night time and had run into a big vehicle. He was killed instantly. My dad thought my mum was a witch for a long time after that.

Another time, we were sleeping in a hotel and mum felt her feet being tickled. She thought it was me or my sister so she looked down towards her feet smiling, but it wasn't us.

She said she could see long white arms reaching down from the windows and touching her feet. She kicked at them and woke up relieved it was a dream.

Later that day she found out that there was a rumour that the hotel was haunted and she wasn't the first to have her feet tickled by a ghost while in bed.

Daily Mail, Simon Cowell And Jehovah Witness Education Coincidence

Dunce

I was reading an article in the Daily Mail titled The TV star who can't tell the time on his £70,000 watch and why being thick is now a great career move. This reminded me that the TV and pop mogul Simon Cowell also praised his own lack of qualifications. He said about his schooling: "I didn't work hard when I was at school. I left at 16 and I didn't have any qualifications. I was useless. The secret is to be useless at school and then get lucky."

So why should anyone bother with a higher education? Oh, and the Jehovah Witnesses agree! They gave the following advice to students in 2012:

"No doubt, school counsellors sincerely believe that it is in your best interests to pursue higher education and to plan for a secular career. Yet, their confidence lies in a social and financial system that has no lasting future." ~ Watchtower 2012 Jun 15 p.23

Yes we are all doomed anyway - though they have given several wrong predictions previously, of course.

The Jehovah Witnesses were giving similar advice to young people in 1969:

"If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years ...

Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way toward its finish, if not actually gone!"
~ Awake! 1969 May 22 p.15

But they did have a reason to say this, other than a forthcoming Armageddon, they wanted to ensure that young people had time to spread the word. In the same 1969 Awake! they wrote:

"... This allows them [young people] to spend much more of their time helping interested persons to learn God's requirements for life ...

True those who do not understand where we are in the stream of time from God's viewpoint will call this impractical. But which is really impractical: preparing yourself for a position in this world that will soon pass away? or working toward surviving the systems end and enjoying eternal life in God's righteous new order?"

Jehovah Witness Awake article

It seems a bit of a coincidence that we have the Daily Mail, Simon Cowell and the Jehovah Witnesses on a similar train of thought about education - though the title of the Daily Mail article is somewhat tongue in cheek.

There has, however, been much discussed in the press about the dumbing down of education in the UK and the USA generally - is this part of some conspiracy theory perhaps?

Dumbing down education cartoon

Ruth Lea, policy director at the United Kingdom's Institute of Directors has stated: "This is farcical – we have now got endemic grade inflation which is making it harder and harder for employers to discriminate between able and less well able students, and the universities are having the same problem. We are deeply pessimistic about this dumbing down, A-levels are no longer the gold standard they were 20 years ago."

I Still Have My Mounties Gun And Holster - but it didn't make me what I am today

Toy gun and holster

What makes us what we are - nature or nurture? The boffins don't seem to agree but I lean towards nature though accept that nurture can also have an influence. Mind you, that does sound a little like sitting on the debate fence.

Mike Perry at 6 or 7
I got wondering about this when thinking about guns. As an adult I detest them and don't understand why anyone would want to own one - unless maybe a farmer or something like that.

So my enjoyment of playing with toy guns as a child didn't carry on into adulthood. I think I realised that shooting and cowboys was simply playing and not for real.

Oh, and case you are wondering, the gun and holster at the top of the page is mine from when I was 6 or 7. And yes, that's me on the right of the other photo: the gap toothed sheriff wearing the very same holster. Though I'm not sure if it's the same toy gun. (The other boy in the photo is Brian Meacock, I wonder where in the world he is now?)

The gun I still have is called 'The Mounty'. I got that as a gift because, as a kid, I also liked The Mounties or the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. At the time I loved their uniform and the thought of riding a horse - there weren't many horses where I was brought up in West London. Now that did influence my early life.

As I couldn't become a Mounty, as I called them, I still wanted to be in the police, but a detective - an influence of books and early television shows.

So I left school at 16 years 9 months and went into Hendon Police College, London. But at 18 my eyesight wasn't considered up to scratch - they had strict physical standards back then, no glasses to be worn. So I had to move on to other things, and I'm very glad, looking back, that I did.

Getting back to nature and guns, when my son was growing up, I never let him have toy guns - not that he ever wanted them - and my daughter-in-law won't let my grandson have them either. It's maybe just as well to keep nasty influences away from children, but I go along with Plato and Descartes who suggest that certain things are inborn, or that they simply occur naturally regardless of environmental influences.

20 Examples Of How The Dead Contact Us With Messages Or Signs

Father's watch coincidence

I have published many posts about white feathers and white doves and how these may, at times, be thought of as messages or signs from the dead.

On one of the posts a reader left a comment telling how a loved one had died recently but she hadn't seen any white feathers - and how she was hoping she would soon.

I'd like to clarify that not everyone sees white feathers or doves. Messages or signs can come in many different forms, often unique to an individual. I have previously given an example of when my own dad died:

"My son had just told us that he had qualified as a Chartered Accountant, which takes quite a few years work here in the UK. I was, of course, chuffed to bits about this and, after talking about it with my wife, I went upstairs to our bedroom.

I wanted to get something or other out of my wardrobe and, for some reason, I was wondering what my father, now deceased, would have thought about my son's success. As I reached into the wardrobe a small bag fell out.

The bag just happened to be one in which I kept a few of my dad's possessions. Nothing of value but they all mean something to me: his old watch, cigarette case, penknife, wedding ring, darts, a tie and a few other trinkets, all full of memories.

I then looked at the watch. Dad was always one for punctuality and often asked, "Do you know what time it is?" when I was a teenager either arriving home at night or getting up late in the morning. Then I noticed the time where the hands of the watch had stopped and have remained ever since.

The time on the watch was exactly the time that my son had been born (3.20 pm).

Perhaps I was in an emotional state but this really hit me. It was as if it was a message from my father saying he knew all about his grandson." Source.

I wasn't aware of seeing any white feathers or doves after my dad's death. I first noticed them following the death of my mother and then two other very close people in my life.

There are a myriad of  ways the deceased could contact us. I think we experience a gut instinct of what is real to us personally when we receive some sort of message. It's hard to describe, but it feels right - a moment of knowing perhaps.

What follows are links that show various ways people claim to have received messages or signs from those who have passed over.

I'd better stop there at twenty examples. I realise some readers may not believe all of the stories in the posts listed. Some will say we are fooling ourselves when we think we have received some sort of message or sign  from the dead. That's okay, it's up to us to decide what we want to believe.

I personally have no doubt that we live on.

It's also interesting how those who are dying themselves sometimes appear to see their loved ones who have died. There's an example of this on The Dying Can Speak To Those Who Have Died

The Meeting Up In India And Thailand Coincidence

McCleod Ganj, India
A coincidence story today that was sent to me. It's short but what are the odds of this happening? Pretty high, I'd guess.

"I met a fellow in McCleod Ganj in northern India. He was from the UK and we met while attending the Dalai Lama's headquarters. We ended up chatting for hours later in a coffee shop but I never took his details.

Two years later, I am in Bangkok (Thailand) and am wandering around the incredibly crowded streets, trying to buy a present for my son. I know the city fairly well, so wasn't concentrating too much on my whereabouts, plus I had earphones on listening to music.

I suddenly became aware that I had walked in a circle and was back where I started! At that moment, the same English guy walks up with no surprise on his face and says, "Hello, you look well." I barely started to talk and he was off again!!

The odds of meeting at that instant, in a different country, and in the maze that is Bangkok - amazing."

White Feather Messages From Her Deceased Son

Today a further white feather story from a reader who wishes to remain anonymous. It shows how even skeptics can start to believe once they have experienced something personally. Hopefully the white feathers will have brought some small comfort for the writer, following the death of her son.

"Let me begin by saying that all of my adult life, I have been a hard core cynic, who believed that death was the end for us all.

When my son unexpectedly died from a seizure in September, 2011, I was thrust into deep grief. About six months after his death, I walked to my mailbox, which I rarely did at that time as my husband always brought in the mail when he came in from work each day. As I approached the mailbox, I saw a white feather lying neatly on the ground next to my mailbox. I picked it up and brought it inside, but thought nothing more of it.

That afternoon, as I was reading the posts of a grieving mother’s Facebook group, where there was an entry about feathers as a sign from deceased loved ones. Although I rarely posted on this page, I posted a note simply stating that I had found a feather near my mailbox that day. Later that same evening, my oldest son (also a hard core cynic), who lives 30 miles from me, called in amazement to tell me that he too had found a feather in his yard earlier that same day, but obviously had placed no significance on it, until he read my Facebook post. However, I still believed both feathers to be just some strange coincidence.

A few days later, as I was walking into my office building one morning, I found a feather lying next to the front door. I picked it up, brought it home and put it with the first feather I had found. Although I pondered the third 'coincidence' a bit more, as I had not found a feather in years prior to the first one, I still refused to place any other significance on them.

A few weeks later, I was leaving work late one afternoon, after having sat at my desk crying all day, missing my son so desperately. I walked to my car, unlocked the door and there was a feather in the middle of my driver’s seat.

Now let me add, that my car was in the parking lot, only a few steps from my front office door, right outside my one story office building. My car is clearly visible to me from my office window, where I had been sitting all day. After a few seconds of shock, I took out my cell phone and snapped a photo of the feather. I checked all my car doors and windows, only to find that my doors were locked and all the windows rolled up. Although I have tried to find every reasonable explanation as to how this feather could have appeared in my locked and closed car, I have yet to find one.

As an aside, I have had several other strange occurrences, since my son died, that had nothing to do with feathers, some of which are even more unexplainable. Believe me when I say that I was not expecting any 'signs,' given my hard core cynicism. While I am no longer a 'hard core cynic,' I am still a skeptic looking for answers, as all of my adult life I have searched for logical explanations for any 'other-worldly' events about which I have heard. But, I must say that from the numerous anomalies that I have seen with my own eyes, since my son’s death, I can find no such logical explanation for many of them. Yes, I was in very deep grief when these things occurred and many would say (as I would, had I heard of them from anyone else) that it was simply the imaginings and/or wishful thinking of a bereaved mother. But, again I was never expecting any of them and was shocked and even frightened by some of them.

While I still cannot say definitively how or why these things occurred, I can definitively say that they did."

The Quotes Of The Japanese Garden In Cornwall

Buddha in a Japanese garden

We made a visit to a Japanese garden at St.Mawgan in Cornwall. It was a dark, drizzly day but the Autumnal leaves were full of colour and vibrancy. These are four of the photos I snapped together with a couple of quotes.

A Jackalope - A Rabbit With Antlers - Seen In Bodmin Jail

Yesterday's post was about Bodmin Jail and while there we saw the above example of taxidermy - a rabbit with antlers!

Such a creature is sometimes referred to as a jackalope in North American folklore. Wikipedia states:

"It is possible that the tales of jackalopes were inspired by sightings of rabbits infected with the Shope papilloma virus, which causes the growth of horn- and antler-like tumors in various places on the rabbit's head and body."

There is an example of Shope papilloma in a Daily Mail article, with photos, which tells of a "bunny filmed hopping around Minnesota yard with rare infection that makes rabbits grow horns."

And, of course, there happens to be an over the top video, which I find a little disturbing, about such a rabbit:

We asked someone at Bodmin Jail what that rabbit with horns was. The lady smiled and simply replied, "It's a rabbit with horns," and she walked away still smiling.

That's the thing about Cornwall, so many myths and legends.

But the USA has it's own and I read this about jackalopes on Legends of America:

"Most commonly sighted in the states of Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, and New Mexico, the jackalope also appears to have a European cousin, in Germany, known as the wolperdinger, and in Sweden, a related species called the skvader.

Illustrations of horned hares go back as far as the 16th century in scholarly European works."

Laura Neocleous, however, from the Wimbledon College of Art, has a somewhat different interpretation of a jackalope:
